Can You Explain to Me Like I'm an Idiot What You Are Doing with Phone Plan?

I see on here people are 'porting out' their number and 'parking' it using amaysim etc (terms I think I 70% understand). Or using a combination of dual sim and cash rewards? Can someone explain to me what actually is being done? Like what is the process that I need to follow? Someone stated that they were paying $10-15 a year for their phone plan how on earth is that possible? Anyway I'm confused.

I have an esim capable phone, are you guys literally using boost just for data? And then keeping your number on amaysim for calls and text? I don't really understand the process entirely but I want to start doing it.

Thanks in advanced

If you get a yearly prepaid plan with boost or Woolworths, it averages out to that amount per month. With Woolworths, you can even get that offset if you shop at their store and claim 10% off once a month, essentially making the mobile service free.

Depends on your needs but some people don't care what number they use to call people with so they park their main number in a cheap 12 month PAYG plan just for receiving calls & turn off data -

amaysim As You Go Plan $10.00 ($10 Credit with 365 Days Validity) @ amaysim

Then they will buy Boost 28 day sims with profit & use in the 2nd sim slot, hence you can have a phone plan & internet for pretty much nothing or actually make a profit.

    • Then they will buy Boost 28 day sims with profit

I think you're referring to ShopBack money-back resulting in NET $0 cost or profit ?

What happen when you DON'T get your money back after 120days: the process (& time) you go through (& proof-needed) to chase ShopBack & resulting success-rate. Your ACTUAL-experience…full & candid knowledge-sharing pls.

What are the traps to look-out for ?

IF there's 'free-lunch' to consumer, why do you think ShopBack is offering it 🤔

More in-depth query is below. Thanks,

  • "Someone stated that they were paying $10-15 a year for their phone plan"

I think they mean something like my Aldi number which costs $15 a year. I only use it as a second number to receive messages and calls. You wouldn't use it for day to day.

    https://www.aldimobile.com.au/products/payg

    Standard calls 15c per min
    Standard SMS 15c each
    Data 6c per MB

    • Kogan and like are about $120 for a whole year, with decent amount of data included and unlimitedcalls and text.

  • I have a hard time understanding what you are asking so will do my best answering

In case of say signing up to new customer deal, but your main number is already with the same provider (eg Boost, Catch, Telstra etc) you take your number to some low cost provider for a short time (eg Amaysim) then wait for the required period before signing up to new customer deal.

  • dual sim phone.
park your main number with PAYG plans on esim slot. turn off data. be careful when making call/sms they are not free.
monitor ozb/woolwrth/coles for new customer special simcard deal with data, get whatever on sale - usually last a month only. keep swapping this, always get new numbers, use it for data and making calls. throw away the sim/number

Some people like to complicate life

    • +1

It's pretty simple actually. As with most thing in life there is more than one way to do something, doesn't mean it's complicated.

Currently I'm on a Belong sim for $22 & it will last 5 months because I got some referral credits.

What phone plan are you on?

      • Woolworths mobile.

Get 10% of a shop each month which pays for the phone plan

My primary number is parked at Aldi, my second number is ported every month, using a combo of Boost, amaysim, lebara, kogan etc. or any SIM thats close to free at the time. Lately, every month has been free thanks to Cashrewards cashback profit.

    • the main number at aldi… have you ever have issue with it, due to the need to pay when making phone call/sms ?

      • -1

Nope, only use it for incoming, second sim set as default for outgoing.

  • because one year payg doesnt include unlimited call/text, this worry me that i will go over the credit one day
yes there is unlimited call/text without data from amaysim (i think) but it is $60 a year which i think a bit too high.

You can't go over on PAYG. Anyway you're doing it wrong if you buy PAYG & make lots of call & sms, see my comment above.

Buy a 12 month plan with unlimited calls & sms if that's what you want. The cheapest atm is Catch for $89 with 60GB

      • My Mum and Dad are with Catch. They have some cheap plans. I use Whistle Out for comparisons on cheap plans- they have the plans under $10:

        https://www.whistleout.com.au/MobilePhones/Guides/cheapest-a…

      • ah i see. so use the number from the second sim not main sim to call/sms but it would be different each month.
hmm does the risk of choosing the wrong sim is high? or easy to avoid?

The cheapest plan I can find is Flip Mobile-
    $4 per month- 500mb data- 100 text - 100mins call time
$9.90 with 3GB with unlimited calls and text

hey thats not bad but no esim.
ideally parking the main number is better with esim, and the data is nanosim etc.
      unless phone has dual nano

Pay money, phone goes ring ring, talky talky to people through magic device
