2 grand for a laptop with 8gb of memory in 2023…

      • Tim Apple likes these specs
      • @TimApple

      • You gotta pony up for more RAM!

    • -7

OMG get over it, don’t click the link if 8gb is going to trigger you

    • Theyre also selling one at $2699 😀

      • +1

Yeah, that is shockingly bad deal for the new base Pro model, and still $300 upgrade for another 8GB in 2023. I was really hoping the next generation of chips was going to increase this baseline.

        • +1

Oh yeah so thats $2999 for an 8GB M3 laptop

    • +1

At least is has generous amount of storage: a whooping quarter of a terrabyte!

What a crappy deal, $40 saving wow i better buy 2 then???

    • -5

couple of fanboys throwing out some negs

  • 10x Qantas Points on offer btw

  • Anyone has Kogan phone number ? Tried to contact them for my order that has not been sent. Been trying to contact them via dashboard and no response. Thanks

apple 'committed to sustainability' then releases 8GB computers that will be ewaste in 2 years

    • -3

I see you've never owned one, yet you're throwing in an opinion. What a spirit.

      • +7

I've also never owned a car with square wheels, but I still know it's a bad idea.

In all seriousness, my partner has 8gb MBA and I've got a 16gb MBP. The 8gb is fine for now. But as Gdsamp said, probably not in 2 years time. 16gb should be minimum now.

        • +4

And seriously.. how much would it cost Apple to bump up to 16GB? bugger-all I bet

        • -5

I guess I started talking to a wrong person who, apparently, specialises in ARM architecture, memory management and what not.

I just assumed it's a PC supporter and then, I couldn't agree more that a Windows on 8GB RAM is not a future-proof machine.

Not sure what your partner does on their computer, but if it's browsing and some office work, there's a great chance they're still fine in 2 years.

I’d get a refurbished one via Apple for $1869.

    https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/FQKW3X/A/refurbished-1…

Other colours available. New chassis and battery and local warranty. They also have higher spec ones on the refurb store.

Can also combine with Apple Store gift card promos that Coles and Woolies run.

  • +4

Not a deal. Amazon is selling the same spec Starlight for 1,999 direct from the Apple Store.

    • -2

That sounds more expensive than $1939 Shipped with Kogan First.

      • Come on, Amazon means you can buy with gift cards, which usually means another 2 percent off.

Not everyone has Kogan First, so most people pay the 1,999 price tag plus delivery.

You are also comparing a product sold directly by the manufacturer from Amazon, a reputable online market place that offers good shipping insurance vs Kogan, who is selling a grey import with dubious local warranty.

If you are spending 2k on a computer, the AMZN store or the Apple Education store are definitely the better option.

        • -2

I get your point but that's, well, your point of view, and I'm sure there are people less savvy than you who'd appreciate this very deal instead of having to get gift cards, figuring things out etc.

And you're just leaving a not quite legit neg without a useful explanation…

          • +2

@pizzaguy: Anyone less savvy should stay away from Grey imports. Regardless the neg was legitimate. The Kogan deal isn't the cheapest for this computer, not everyone has Kogan First and has access to the preferential pricing whereas everyone has access to amazon gift cards for a discounted rate.

Buy from Apple Edu store with Apple GCs regular on sale equiv to 10% off, stack with whatever cash back rate from CR and SB, should cost you around $1700 net…free delivery and no shonky opt-out membership, plus local Apple warranty!

Android users casually walking around with more RAM in their phones then a 2023 MacBook is a little comedic to me.

    • +1

Comedic because why so much RAM for a phone and why so little RAM for a productivity laptop?

      • +1

Yeah, it must be funny (I don’t know why) that a phone requires so much RAM to be useable.

  • +1

Education discount + apple refurbished certainly a much worthy deal than grey import?

  • +2

    Not a bargain.

  • +1

$2k for a laptop with only 8gb ram.
    Only Apple fanboys.

  • The $60 savings wont even cover the surprise $100 annual kogan first membership they have waiting for you in 14days.

    • These negs a getting more and more arbitrary.

      Sure, why not.

      • 3% discount is not even a bargain, certainly not ozbargain worthy

        • That's what a spoiled newbie would say.
