Aldi. Pay as you go with 365 day expiry.

It's like $0.06/MB if you do have to use it for data, but as a backup it's an easy set and forget. They send a reminder when it's going to expire, you just add another $15.

How is OPTUS still in business…

    • +1

40% of the Nation uses them

      • Learn to read and think.

10M customers does not mean 10M australians.

Every single machine that has connectivity to some server is a customer or client, like an eftpos machine etc is a client.

    • +2

At the moment, they(and their commercial customers), aint.

  • +3

Can't use 2FA to connect to company network on laptop. Guess I'll just take the day off

  • +4

i dont understand why they cant flick a data roaming switch, and pay for us to roam on a network that isnt down?

    • +1

Government might mandate that this gets built into the system in future.

    • Because there is no connectivity.

What basically happened is someone screwed up the routing of everything, so data was going no where. How is one optus cimputer going to send a message to optus mobile customers if the network is completely broken ?

Basically routing controls how things flow from somewhere to somewhere else, and what paths it takes. If you break the routes along the way then nothing is going to get anywhere.

  • Back up and running for me.

    • Where are you?

      • Brisbane and before you ask, it's my mobile.

  • Working again as of half an hr ago.

      • Mobile. My home internet is working as I'm with Superloop.

    • My Coleoptus mobile is still down and I'm also in Sydney.

    • Where are you?

      • Inner City, Sydney.

  • Outrageous! I can't withdraw money from CR

I hope FriendlyJordies takes the opportunity to shit on her again :)

  • Everything back online now, after last 7 hours

  • +1

I am not using optus but vodafail.

    Just FYI

My commbank card has multiple unrecognised transaction 'using mobile' (coincidentally commbank call centre is also off line due to optus)

So double and Triple check your cc. especially commbank customers.

    Crazy day.

  • No service in WA still

  • It’s always Optus

  • I see there is some sort of tower communication but there's still not enough signal to actually connect

    • my optus signal was back for some minutes then SOS again.

99% certain it's a hack. yes stuff breaks and can cause outages through bad change control etc, but the entire network doesn't just go "offline" because of a bad change. there should also be a multitude of backups and redundancies to prevent this. doesn't surprise me in the least Optus have virtually no security control and/or cyber security presence/knowledge.

they were hacked late last year and now this, they didn't learn anything or implement anything. clowns.

    • Perhaps you are right, I didn't find any post-mortem about last year's hack, the issue that was there could still be there…

    • Not for me in QLD. 0 bars still on phone. Using Coles Mobile.

      • +1

Might take some time to filter back through to resellers of Optus, lIke Coles Mobile.

        Also, try a device reboot.

  • +2

After the hack, then this, I think the name of Optus should be OptOut or Floptus.

  • +1

Still down. 0 bars on the phone. Have rebooted a couple of times.

  • +2

Thats the price you pay for staying with hacktus

    • +2

That's a good name, better than Floptus.

      • +2

Is it? Floptus rhymes, hacktus is nonsense

        • they 'hacked us' is a play on words for those that didn't get far in school

Bruh it just had to be the day I put aside for all my phone calls to ATO, Services Australia, Service NSW, hoping to connect to them early morning

I also need to recharge my Amaysim which expired yesterday and I can't even login to do that cause of this

  • Still can't call some people.in QLD.

Should I re-send SMS sent earlier today, or does it queue? Not sure how long delays / offline work in regards to SMS's.

    • Still can't call some people.in QLD.

Their device could still be offline.

Should I re-send SMS sent earlier today, or does it queue? Not sure how long delays / offline work in regards to SMS's.

Depends if you had service or not. If you had service, it should be queued but could take time to process, especially nationwide outage. I would suggest resending.

      • I'm not with Optus so all good. More will they get a heap of SMS when their phone comes back online. From memory of being on a plane, yes it all queues somehow. Yeah can imagine the network will have a heap of "catch up" to do.

        • If you are not on Optus, then it will be queued and eventually delivered to the end user.

  • At least i can still use wifi optus at home, with no problem

  • +4

I'll bet the CEO uses Telstra for her mobile plan

    • +3

Cause she can afford it, for everyone else at Optus they use Vodaphone

  • Back up for me - Brisbane mobile with Catch.

    • +4

Full service? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves by setting impossible goals

      • I think it's as per the 'full service' a brood mare receives.

  • Mine is now working.

  • Noob here, I thought vowifi will work fine and but isn't 😔

  • +5

Bros, this is ridiculous. Next Boost long expiry comes up I'm in, I'll take the loss on the Amaysim deal i got off here.

    • Yup had 2 more months of Amaysim to go with a Boost sim in cupboard ready to go. Early port it is. Gotta vote with my wallet.

  • +2

Well my Amaysim SIM but not my Optus SIM was working, reset internet and restarted now my Optus SIM is working but not Amaysim.. lol

  • +1

On and off for me. 5g and 3g now

  • +3

It really could have be worse.

It could have been yesterday and all betting services were using Optus or subsets.

  • +5

Would not have happened if they let Huawei building the network

  • +2

Lucky I have my boost Sim in my dual Sim for internet

  • +3
  • Restart phone. Network is back up. Time to get back to work

    • +1

      • -1

The bint in charge will blame & sack an expendable underling and Optus will keep her.Rinse & repeat till the next FU.
        She's made of imported Teflon.

Check out the almost 1 million BGP announcements right before they went down.
    https://radar.cloudflare.com/as4804?dateStart=2023-11-07&dat…

Looks like the kooked the routing completely.

  • I'm in Melbourne, Preston 3072, just then my Optus mobile service started working. Odd some areas are coming back at different times.

    • I think they have to manually update and reboot them in a particular order.

  • So many people in my workplace this morning had issues, Seems to be fine now

  • +1

Can we ask for some limited compensation? Given how long it was down….?

    • probably around 12 hours

    • +1

There's a good chance you will be entitled to a credit for the duration of the down-time only, but knowing Optus that will subject to a 'Request' basis and won't be automatically given to customers. You may be able to negotiate a full day credit though, especially businesses account holders, assuming Optus services are restored today.

    • +1

I was given 0 for last time, and so I did gave them a tit for tat, 0 monies to them from me (even indirectly though MVNO networks)

  • +1

8 hours without internet. i need counselling …

  • +7

Optus is starting to become the Fastway Couriers (Now Aramex) of Australia in terms of reliability and reputation.

I wonder if this will add more $$$$$ to the current Slater & Gordon Class-Action Lawsuit against Optus…. I might get $1.20 instead of 30c 😅

    • +2

I had the misfortune of having to deal with Fastway recently - how the hell do they stay in business.

I'd add Kogan to your list of comparisons - my son bought a fridge off of them and it's the biggest heap if sh1t imaginable.

  • +2

Optus was down but Telstra giving away free txt, calls and data lol

  • +6

Look i don't want to sound like a dick but anyone who stuck with Optus after the hacking fiasco doesn't have much of a right to complain too much and if you feel like you do, go right ahead. But next year when they stuff up again please stop complaining.

    • +1

I don't want to be a dick but thinking everyone can just spare an extra $10 a month for theoretically the same thing is pretty out of touch

      • +2

There is Vodafone and resellers of Telstra which are cheaper than Optus plans. Where there is a will there is a way.

      • +1

as an example Kogan mobile uses Vodafone and is way cheaper than Optus and cheaper or as cheap as any other Optus backed providers
