        Banned in Pakistan…

observing that it is hazardous for health.
regular use of this ingredient can cause long-term issues like high blood pressure, autism, hormonal imbalance, epilepsy, food allergies, asthma, reduction in bile formation, cancer and possible sterility in females.

Ah yes, Pakistan, the world bastion of science.

          From Unicef: (https://www.unicef.org/pakistan/education)
"Currently, Pakistan has the world’s second-highest number of out-of-school children (OOSC) with an estimated 22.8 million children aged 5-16 not attending school, representing 44 per cent of the total population in this age group."

I don't know about you, but I'll stick to getting my science from nations where a good chunk of the population is actually educated.

    • I didn't know Doritos and almost every brand of potato chip was banned in said countries. Which ones?

Is this just ignorance on the subject matter and you're genuinely curious, or just trying to perpetuate false narratives?

lol the downvotes on this based on health concerns? some absolute weird units here on OzBargain. it's either a deal or it isn't

    • According to OzBargain's own guidelines:

      Negative Vote

      Purpose:

To let others know about issues with the deal, merchant or product.

Next time there's a deal on woolen clothing, should I downvote it because I'm allergic to wool?

      • No negs here nowadays unless it's an outright scam . ..

    • -2

      lol the downvotes

      I don't see any deal downvotes…

      • removed i guess

    • Some people neg deals simply because its being sold by harvey norman or some other company they dont like or had issues with even though the deal is very good.

Bacteria is used to in many processes

Yes, and it is often not good for you.

            • @jv: I don't want anything that has cum in my food!

            • @jv: Corynebacterium glutamicum did more for this country than you ever will! Show some respect

              • @Diji:

                than you ever will!

says you, so it doesn't count…

                • @jv: No, Dan Andrews told me.

        • Hold up, they cite how cheese and yogurt is made and use that to demonstrate the same principle used to make it. How is making Cheese, Yogurt or any sort of alcohol ok but this isn't? lmao. How are you missing the point of the video?

          • -1

@KennyBrea: MSG production uses genetically modified bacteria.

            • @jv: Source please. You can't just know how to use formatting to prove a point.

              • -1
                • +1

@jv: This literally just describes the process of MSG production? Are you implying that any sort of chemical process is bad? Do you drink raw milk and just gamble that you won't get a bacterial disease?

Additionally the use of genetically modified things isn't inherently bad y'know. How do you think Lemons are so sweet now or how large the yields are on corn fields? We're not out here Cronenburging things.

I had to spend some time finding the actual text - but effectively. Chemical processing allows them to process far more material to produce more. Which is good, however there are considerations which must be undertaken to ensure food safety standards. If MSG wasn't safe for human consumption it wouldn't have been made available at the local shops. The article even continues to explain how to remove the undesired factors that would make the MSG unsafe for consumption so I don't truly understand what point you're trying to make here.

There's a full explanation on the qualities of MSG. If this was supposed to be some gotcha Idk what your plan was. But realistically, you probably have a sensitivity to it. However it's not some black magic that's out to murder people. I'm here for truth too but if you're just sending out links to articles you clearly haven't read then idk what to tell you. Tell me what you had to eat today and I'll tell you if it had MSG ;)

                  • @KennyBrea:

Are you implying that any sort of chemical process is bad?

                    Not always…

                    Some are, some aren't

                    • +2

@jv: I changed my mind - I don't think you're sensitive to it. I think you're just a bit thick and you didn't actually read the article YOU sent lol. Name me a bad chemical process please. We live in a time of prosperity and lack of food scarcity for a majority of people and you refuse to engage me when I engaged you and read a how to guide on how to make MSG lol.

What is this avoidant language. "ooooo big scary MSG" get outta town.

                  • @KennyBrea:

But realistically, you probably have a sensitivity to it.

Yes, I have an allergic reaction to it, as do many people…

                    • +2

                      @jv: "as do many people"

                      This double-blind study disagrees: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/027869…

"The present study led to the conclusion that ‘Chinese Restaurant Syndrome’ is an anecdote applied to a variety of postprandial illnesses; rigorous and realistic scientific evidence linking the syndrome to MSG could not be found."

Come on, msg has killed millions if not billions. 5G has done the same, tin foil hats offer best protect from covid.

Note. All research done via reddit and Facebook.

Wait til 5msG hits the streets. People are going to lose their minds.

Common factor is the G in both MSG and 5G.

I remember my uni lecturer was doing the research on msg.

He enjoyed giving people their daily dose of msg and watching them complain about headaches. No difference in results vs placebos. Just a bunch of whingers he told me. 😂

    • +1

      Found the paper.

Lecturer was named Tarasoff. We used to call him ‘tear your arse off’ 😂

Oh no, it's one of the many, many studies that have disproved the crappy MSG myth perpetuated by some seemingly racist professor. But HE said he got a bit of a headache after eating Chinese food so I'm going to agree with him. /s

People love to believe conspiracy bullshit, baffling that this one keeps on coming back year after year. MSG is extremely safe and better than salt.

        • You can believe Dr ‘Tear your arse off’. We had lots of different versions of his name.

I think he was actually professor at the time. So long ago.

MSG is as bad as saturated fats in meat and cholesterol in eggs…
    /jk

    • Hmmm, don't forget flame grilled fats…

  • +8

pretty much any stock power (or liquid, or savoury highly processed foods) you buy will be full of glutamates, either as MSG or hidden as something like "yeast extract" or "hydrolysed vegetable proteins".
sauces like soy, worcestershire and oyster might say "no added MSG", but they are full of glutamates and sodium.

    • +1

Tomatoes and cheese contain a ton of glutamate too!

      Nice tzuyu profile pic lmao

  • +8

the cocaine of the culinary world…

  • If you don’t want to use MSG just use a premium oyster sauce, but there is nothing wrong with msg

  • MSG is bad seems to be what I have been told since a kid
funny enough that more advices recently MSG might be better than salt

  • -8

    Mmmmm, chemicals

    • -3

It's funny how people are personally offended by this comment, hmm I wonder why

      • +3

No one is offended mate. People are just neging on your plain stupid statement.

        • -7

Which part of my statement was factually incorrect?

Oh and I'm not your mate.

Oh, also reported for abuse :)

          • +8

@TheCunningLinguist: Firstly, everyone's my mate - we live in Australia, mateship is one of our core values.

Secondly, I never questioned the factual nature of your statement. Simply just explained why people are negging something that appears to be inherently stupid.

Your statement implies that this product is a 'chemical', preceded by 'mmmmm'. This is very easily interpreted by most as you trying to insinuate that it's somehow bad. e.g. equating it to Drain Cleaner or other 'chemical'.

Reality is - most things are chemicals. Salt is a chemical, water is a chemical. There are many 'bad' chemicals and many 'good' chemicals. Your body is mostly made up of - guess what - chemicals.

So your statement is very stupid. It adds nothing of value and just perpetuates a very silly notion that all 'chemicals' are bad.

Hope you learned something today. Cheerio, mate.

Also abusing the report function is in poor taste.

              • +8

@TheCunningLinguist: ^ heh, exactly the response that i expected, mate. i know for an absolute fact that you read the whole thing too, huffed and puffed a bit and since there was nothing to latch onto you chose to pretend that you 'didn't read it'. good for you mate.

also, i know you 'dont care' but im really enjoying this so my time is spent exactly how i want it, mate. :) <3

                • @Meeb: I think he was taking off Homer Simpson.

                  • -1

@Boodek: Haha, didn't think of that!

Homer is the literal embodiment of a very stupid person and he would go "mmmmm, chemicals" and drool.

If that was the intention, well played. Though somehow I get the feeling it's not that deep.
