  • How are these compared to a snowball?

    • +1

I find these better and smaller

    • +13

Might hurt a tad more if throwing.

    • +3

      a fair chunk better

Honestly though…audio technica ALWAYS has a mental black friday rebate, grab one of those AT2020 go down to 99 bucks..cant beat it..

These yetis are okay if ur mouths less than 40cm away…

      • I need something to record voice over for youtube videos and will be recording from my room which is not super quiet. I watched a review of this moc that I have shared in comments and guy suggested Audio Technica AT 2100 or Samson Q2U which are better for this kind of environment. I have bought this yeti nano but can sell it later and buy something else on black friday. Do you have any suggestions which are better for my requirements?

        • +1

Whatever it is, use it close up to your mouth - maybe 3 - 5 inches away max. It's a fairly effective way of cutting down environment noise. 40cm is way too far imho (excepting shotguns of course, which are designed to be out of frame above the subject, and they reject side noise well).

If you use a pop filter close to the mic, it can help you keep a consistent distance. It's pretty important when close, because you'll lose or gain a lot of volume through small position changed, and the tone will also alter (bassier as you get closer).

I'm a bit fond of Rode's range, but there's just so many options now.

        • +1

Q2U is very good but have to be very close. It's quiet. That's the only drawback.

  • can we use this for let's sing game on switch? it needs usb mics.
bought cheapo from amazon and its rubbish

    • +5

If you need Microphones for the Switch, just pick up the Let’s Sing presents ABBA 2 Mic Bundle (which includes 2x Mics) for $19 from JB Hi-Fi.

      • thanks will think about it.
i got one similar from amazon but the quality is so bad thats why thinking about yeti

  • +26

thanks my 2 viewers will appreciate the quality!!!

    • haha

    • +6

      Mum and Dad?

    • Actually they are just you + your fake id.

      • So what, that’s still one pair of ears to appreciate the quality 👌🏼

        • Agreed

  • Good timing since my big blue yeti just died after years of service

  • +1

I have the nano and it has this issue where it needs to be disconnected and reconnected after the computer restarts to recognize the mic. Support was no help. It is some sort of a driver issue and the usual clean install steps hasnt helped.
Also, I have my headphones connected via the mic and it has a constant hum when the mic is on.

    • +2

That hum is electrical interference, one of the downsides of USB mics.
My 7 year old Blue Yeti has had it all its life, but if you keep your gain moderate, it shouldn't be noticeable, and it's pretty easy to reduce/remove from recordings in post.

      • That's good to know. For me it comes and goes. I am not sure what causes it.
Also they got rid of the yeti software and it is all integrated into Logitech Ghub now which is in addition to the Logi Tune software!
Any recommendations for a better mic? USB or not?

        • Yea, the electrical hum can be caused by a lot of things. The USB port itself, feedback from accessories plugged into your PC or from the main power supply, etc. Sometimes external USB hubs can help reduce this, but YMMV.

As for mic recommendations, depends on your needs.
If you want something more versatile, you may be happy with a headset that has a retractable/built-in mic.

In terms of standalone USB mics, I'd say the $75-$200 range is where you'll get the best balance of audio quality and value.
The Blue Yeti range is a good bet, and I can speak from experience obviously. I paid $190 for my Blue Yeti, and I've had no issues with it in the 7 years I've owned it, and the headphone jack for headset sound and mic monitoring has been a god send for me (I've been using my Sony wh-1000xm3 with it for 3.5 years). Just take note that most of these mics are pretty sensitive to vibrations, so leaving them in their stock stands on your desk isn't a great idea as they'll pickup most keyboard taps or mouse movements. You'd be best to look at either a standalone mic stand or a boom arm, with a shock mount, and also a pop filter to reduce any loud pops from plosives in words you speak.
There's plenty of other USB options from RODE, Elgato, HYPER-X, etc. Just do your research and read reviews.

If you're willing to spend a bit more for a budget standalone XLR Interface/Mixer, then something like the Audio-Technica AT2020 XLR is a good bet.

If you're looking for something on the mid-high end (Getting close to $1k and up) and want to dive deeper into Audio Specs and what not, then perhaps the Shure SM7B is worth looking at, paired with a good XLR interface. I have no experience here so do your research.

  • Just got one! Thanks mate.

  • Thanks @RichardL, bought one

  • its a good starter mic the old snow ball it was my first ever condenser mic before I bought mixers and switched to Dynamic XLR mics.

  • got one , thanks @RichardL

  • What's the normal price for these? I see a range of price on Google. Guessing around $129?

    • eBay list price says AU $159.95 :D

  • +7

condenser.. make sure you got RTX voice running on that. Its free and is black magic for noise suppression

    • +1

      TIL about RTX voice!

    • I believe it's called Nvidia Broadcast now. Amazing software, I use it for my Blue Yeti.

      • It is inside their shitty app that way, but you can still download it separately without wasting additional ram

        • Do you know any amd gpu alternatives that I can run in the backround for game chat/talking to friends.

    • +1

Hard agree. RTX voice works insanely well, you could have the washing machine making a ruckus, someone vacuuming, clacking away at your keyboard and the door is open on top of all that and you'll be left with often indistinguishable quality after it suppresses all that.

  • Thanks, grabbed one! I just needed a cheapo microphone to speak to people while I game on my PC.

This is probably overkill but looking online it's hard to find a cheap USB Microphone unless I wanted to roll the dice with a very cheap looking no brand $12-15 + delivery microphone.

    • Zalmann clip on is what you want for a cheapo

  • Is that an O or two Zeros in the code?

    • First is the letter O then the number 0 at the end.

  • +2

wouldn’t AKG lyra be better for extra $25?
    https://djcity.com.au/product/akg-lyra-usb-condenser-microph…

    • Depends on use case I guess. Also it is 50% more

      • +1

Agree. I took the hit of 50% more convincing myself that it would be work expense ;)

        • Convinced myself the same thanks to your link. That price seems pretty good.

  • +1

Does the 10$ ebay plus for a year work for anyone? I just tried it to get this but doesn't seem to work

    • yes worked for me

  • Thanks, OP! I got one.

Thinking about kicking off a podcast with the guys just for some laughs.

Besides that, could someone please inform me about the other essentials? A recorder or something similar? I'd really appreciate some budget-friendly or VFMc recommendations!

  • +1

An excellent review of this mic

  • Tempting to swap out my atr2500x. Worth?

  • How does this compare to my rode nt1a? I assume the rode demolishes it?

    • Isn't that a $300+ microphone, comparing to an on sale $55 microphone?

      Seems like apples and oranges

      • +1

        Apples are overpriced tho :v

  • Had one of these for around 4 years now, aside from having to occasionally unplug - replug if it won't unmute, its been rock solid! A steal at this price

  • Can anyone suggest a good mic for conference calls? I have a really bad voice and webcam mic is no good! Thanks
