Massive queues. Not worth it, late for work

  • Can anyone please confirm if I can do this all online:

    1. Swap the multiple physical TCN cards for multiple digital JB HI FI gift cards
    2. Use multiple of these digital JB HI FI gift cards for a single order

    TIA

    • +1

From the comment on first page

      Instore
      The OzBargain record is 81.

Just make sure to tell staff that you are wanting to use a card or eftpos card as a payment method, because the TCN gift cards in this deal featuring JB Hi-Fi operate on the eftpos network. Do not mention anything about gift card as a payment method, because JB Hi-Fi’s checkout system will only let you redeem a JB Hi-Fi gift card if the staff member selects gift card as a payment method.

      Online at www.jbhifi.com.au
You cannot redeem the TCN gift cards in this deal featuring JB Hi-Fi directly on the JB Hi-Fi website, because these TCN gift cards operate on the eftpos network.

However, at the time of writing this comment, you can go to the TCN website and exchange your TCN gift card for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card. There is no limit to the number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards you can redeem in one online transaction.

Online at other JB Hi-Fi websites (e.g. JB Commercial)
TCN gift cards and JB Hi-Fi gift cards are not redeemable on these websites.

  • Morningside QLD had some Teen and Kids $50's left about half hour ago. Cannon hill running low on 50's

Thanks for the entertaining posts this morning everyone!

Glad I skipped this one. Doesn't seem as well organised as the SNES mini re-release sale

  • Can confirm $100 HIM card had no discount. In Melbourne.

Btw, so embarrassing to see people flocking and hovering at the gift card section. lol.

  • +3

    Melbourne CBD

    Elizabeth st basically none
    Melbourne c none
Southern cross = heaps of shop ones (was getting refilled)
    As of time of post
    Hope that helps someone

  • Lol. Staff at my local Coles just let people pick from the box as they did not have enough times to hang them up. Mostly $30 value gift card after 30 min opening the store. I also saw many staffs bought them

  • +1

Can confirm that there is no $100 cards at Coles Belconnen.

    • There were none in Chisholm too this morning at 6.05am despite there being a whole stack of them there yesterday…

    • Always had luck with Coles Kaleen.

  • Ultimate cards not on discount, in case some one wants to know. Heaps of them left over. Also no one seems to want the discounted $100 Active either.

    • Active is rubbish. It's all sports related not all bargainers are sporty. We only care about TGG and JBhifi

  • Can confirm that the $100 gift cards from TCN are not on sale - only the $50 and below. Tried at 2x Coles this morning.

    • +1

The $100 are, you might have picked up the ultimate home, not regular home

    • Staff told you not on sale or you tried putting into the register?

      • Staff were unaware of the promotion funnily enough. I put $100 GCs across Home and Him through the register to no avail.

  • Did anyone buy $100 GC? Staff said that per the catalogue only $50 card on discount, not $100.

    • +1

Yes, bought 5 x $100 and was discounted this morning.

    • I don't think there's a $100 card within 100km of me!

      • +1

My local store was pretty empty when I entered, only had 5 other people purchasing the GCs.

    • yeah $100 GC's worked for me. Got 5 of them, all 15% off.

      • I scanned the $100 ones, didn't work for me - which ones did you buy?

        • Home

  • Point Cook Sanctuary Lakes only had Shop and Choice and Active left. All the Teens and Kids ones were gone by 830am.

  • Just tried to use two of my gift cards and they have an expiry of 0001 and no money on them. Do I need to go back to the store? Both the ones from the same store don't work, but other stores are fine.

    • I knew scammers would catch up in this. Sorry to hear this. Yeah take it back and see what they can do
Let us know how you go if you don’t mind

      • What could scammers do?

    • +1

Mine doesn't work either. It's mentioned in the T&Cs that it takes up to 24hrs to load the money. Sit back and wait.

      • Strange that the others from other shops do though

        • I wouldn't stress. The expiry of Jan 0001 basically says it's not loaded yet. If it was loaded but used, the expiry would be valid, but with 0 balance. I had all my $100 Home cards (purchased from two different stores) show the Jan 0001 and $0 balance. But my $30 teen card loaded immediately. So maybe it's a $ value thing, or specific to HOME cards. Not sure.

    • a couple of mine arent showing any balance either

  • +1

Bought some $30x 5 Teen cards this morning … that was all that was left even when the store opened. Lots of OzB types were clearly there. We all had a good chat.

I want to buy an Xbox X (with shipping as it’s a Xmas present interstate) so would rather online Jb/MS store if possible, else if I have to pay Aus Post on top for postage.

When I try to convert to Xbox/JB via the TCN web site, I get the error “ Insufficient card amount.”… does it take a while?

    • +1

Mines doing the same. Could be that they are still activating. Check the balance and it will show the date as 1 Jan 0001 with $0 balance.

Even the one that has a full balance is showing as incorrect card number when I try to convert to JBHifi. Might have to try again after lunch. Hoping to pick up a Rog Ally on the way home from work

      • Same here. Trying to convert TEEN to JBHiFi say's Insufficient card amount however the KIDS card is saying incorrect card number… I'm also assuming they are not activated yet, which you'd think is strange considering the Coles register state's it's activating the card during checkout. But like you said, the T&C on TCN say's it can take 24 hours so I'll wait.

        • I have 17 cards. 2 of them aren't activated but the other 15 are. The other 15 wont convert via JBhifi.

The two that aren't activated were done after 7, so maybe that's when they started getting hit hard. I went to the other 3 Coles before 7am

          • @Moventura: Still unable to activate? Mine say's Insufficient card amount…

  • managed to get 3x $50 Shop to be given as gift. two questions, 1) when does these card expires 2) without opening the card, is there way to double check if value has been loaded correctly?

    • Only way is to check online, but you need to reveal the pin

      • ok. and I can't reveal the pin without reaping the card off i guess

    • +1

Expiry is 3 years (legal wording says 36 months) from the date of sale.

  • Can you use the same credit card to purchase more then 5, it seemed like my Amex would not work the second lot of 5 I bought

    • Was fine for me.

      • Ok thanks off to another Coles they kicked up a stink there the second five I bought

    • Could be flybuys if you swiped that twice.

  • Lots of 50s pretty much every coles that I went to.

  • Bit sad that people are not able to buy the cards. But don't folks here buy these cards, during rest of the year, when they are available on 15% discount?
I mean some purchases are sudden, but others can be anticipated…
I also want to buy laptop in this discount season and I am using $2000 worth Ultimate giftcards that I had bought 2 years ago at 15% discount…

    • +1

Most don’t have the willpower to hoard that amount of GC’s for two years. Money saved is money earned after all, so I personally would only buy GCs with the expectation to use them within a few months.

      • Yea, 2 years is too much… My cards had to wait for 2 years as I got better deals without cards :-)
But buying 6-8 months in advance should not be an issue… Card deals popup throughout the year…

    • +1

$1700 spent 2 years ago is worth $1,992.90 now, so you've saved $7.10.

      https://www.inflationtool.com/australian-dollar/2021-to-pres…

      • +1

yea, that's why I said 2 years is too much! I had to hold those cards, as some purchases at that time got cancelled and some other purchases were better without cards. And I did not buy any new cards, as I had them.
But as I mentioned, purchase of discounted gift card well before the Black Friday is preferable considering the situation we are seeing at Coles.

  • store staff got me $50*5

  • Anyone tried to use the card? It shows zero balance

    • Apparently it can take up to 24 hours to activate. I have 15 that have the full balance, two that I bought after 7am are showing $0 with an expiry for Jan 01 0001

      • +2

luckily this didn't happen when I got ultimate GC from wws last Saturday. As I walked to JB HIFI next door to use the cards straight away after purchasing.

  • Anyone tried to swap to JB giftcard on TCN website? What card number we need to enter? I tried both Kids and Home I got, and it's not accepting (have tried full 19 digits card no, or 15 digits without 5021). Card were showing correct $50 when I checked the balance

    • Where can I go to swap? So hard to locate the page. Thanks.

      • +2

        https://thecardnetwork.com.au/pages/the-home-card
That's for home, u can change for other type on top menu. Click How To Use, and select the merchant you want, it'd open up another window asking for card no & PIN, but I can't got pass this 2nd windows, saying please check your card number (which definitely correct as I can copy paste to check balance) or contact CS

        • Thanks. Ah, it’s giving me the same message. But when I check the balance, it does show how much is there. Might just have to wait I guess.

    • I think it might take time for it to update. None of mine work when trying to transfer, and two of my cards don't have the full balance at all yet

    • Same problem here, got some $100 & $50 cards after 8am today, trying checking 2 of them, both got $0 balance.
      Will try again tomorrow!

      • Mine from 7:20 are finally activated

        • And is swapping working? Mine had balance straight away, but I can't swap.

          • @puffinfresh: Not yet. I think I'll have to drop into JB with 17 gift cards after work

  • +4

Found a person who took 40 cards and bought all by himself by going around and in and out

    Selfish!

Coles should have done better by linking it to flybuys and enforce 5 card limit

    • Sad, and for this one you don't even need flybuys, discount appear right away

    • Yeah it's a failure from Coles to not enforce the 5 card limit better.

When I went in store to buy a SNES mini years ago, Big W kept watch on the order of arrivals and handed out tickets accordingly so that people we're not pushing each other out of the way and they could ensure everyone got one.

And yes, I did get there earliest but appreciated the store manager keeping things orderly. Had a good chat with a couple of the guys who also got there early without having to worry about whether I would get one or not.

  • -7

Downvoting due to comically low stock on morning of promotion. Huge amount of variable loads that arent included in deal, seems like intentionally misleading

    • +8

How can you downvote, It got ozbargained. You snooze you lose.

  • +1

Just tried to use my cards at JB Hi Fi and it didn't work lol, I called customer service and they said it takes 24 hours for the funds to load. I didn't realise but it says it in super fine print on the back of the card WTF.
Gonna have to go back to JB Hi Fi tomorrow now haha

    • Probably that explain why I can't exchange it online either

    • +1

their activation servers would be getting pumped today, suprised it didnt crash TBH

      • ^^ this. They'd have an astronomical amount of activations this morning. It took a good minute at the Coles POS for the transaction to go through.

    • same here :-(

  • +2

First time doing the rounds and hit up 4 Coles this morning. That feeling of disappointment when you rock up and there’s people at the GC section already.

Looks like others had a better game plan than me - either coming in by 7am, stashing it somewhere in the store in advance or taking them home and checking out on promo day.

Didn’t get the amount I wanted. Anyhow, all good. Better luck next time!

    • The last one is technically theft.

  • Got a load of Christmas shoping done thanks to this!!!

    • -3

So you saved $150, considering that you can always get these GCs at 10% discount

      • -2

I never get these gift card deals and they are 15% off so i saved like $450.
Cant wait to buy my macbook pro :)

Jesus, all you people downvoting my comment must be salty because you didnt get any lmao

As @Regie69 said, "you snooze, you lose"

        • Yeah but you probably hid the cards before today to be able to get 40 in total across 8 stores. If you didn't then I wish I have your luck.

          • @firestint: I didn't hide anything mate.

I rolled in just 10 minutes before the store swung its doors open. I mapped out my plan, hitting up the Coles that opened at 6 am first, then making sure i was out the front of the stores that opened at 7am so i was first in again.

It's all about strategy and a bit of luck.

    • +1

      respect the grind

    • +1

Did you stash them a couple days prior or did you actually find them in store? I doubt you were able to find that many $100 ones in store, doesn’t matter how early from past experience

      • Nah i didnt stash any

One coles had the 100$ HOME cards out the back and the other stores they were located on one of the corners of the gift card stands, so not with all the other TCN cards

    • +4

I mean, I didn't bother trying to get any gift cards today as I don't need them, but you're also part of the reason why.
There's probably 2 main reasons why you got downvoted:
      1. You're bragging about being a super greedy individual. Fair enough with the "You snooze you lose" attitude, but have some common decency. Plenty of customers didn't get a gift card because of you (And others alike), and those people may have genuinely found these gift cards to be a great financial help given the current cost of living.
      2. There's SUPPOSED to be a limit of 5 cards per customer. It doesn't state per store, so I would assume in general, but either way, you've cheated the system (As many other customers no doubt tried with varying degrees of sucess).

      🤔

      • -6
        1. Considering i am a student trying to scrounge together some money to buy a laptop that is suitable for the course i am doing, i will happily be labelled as a "super greedy individual"

        2. I’m sorry that my purchases caused you/everyone so much distress. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me for my heinous crime. Have a great day!

  • came into cole’s at 9:30am forest lake qld, nearly 3 hours after opening and staff were keeping gift cards behind counter and managed to get 5x $100 Home gift cards. They said in the morning they had fights so they were keeping them behind. They had plenty of stock left too somehow, I guess no one knew staff had.

    • Did you get 15% off too? got to the store and they had 15% discount sticker on the $50 gift cards only so had to grab 10 of them.

      • The $100 are definitely 15% off too

But they normally restrict you to 5 rather than 10 unless

  • +7

I woke up at 6am and thought about rushing to Coles to get the TCN Baby card but didn't want to disturb the pregnant wife

Not sure if I made the right choice

    • +1

Definitely. Good on u mate, it's not worth the 15% (or just additional 5% as we have 10% almost every other week)

  • +9

For those wondering how to exchange the cards for digital retailer specific ones.

    1. Go to https://thecardnetwork.com.au/pages/the-home-card
    2. Select your type of card, example above is home
    3. Press 'How to use'
    4. Toggle 'Online'
    5. Select the retailer
    6. Select 'online' again and 'continue'
    7. Proceed
    8. Enter in your card number and pin

At the time of writing this it says the card is unavailable. I called their support, they mentioned it could take up to 24 hours to be able to swap. Will probably try tonight regardless

note: JBHIFI gives you an email with a barcode which you can use online or in store. JB also allowed unlimited GC redemptions online aswell which is what I will be using them for.

    • +1

Anyone had luck with this yet? My cards have the correct balance, but it's still telling me to check the card number when I try to convert it.

      • Same with mine.

        • Hey Mate. Did this get fixed for you? Was 24 hours the waiting period? Thanks man
