    Hmmm

Grew up as a teenager mowing the lawns with Honda lawn mowever that just work fine..

When I bought my own house, spent good money, close to $1000 on the the latest and greatest honda 4 stroke mower. The things can only get newer and better right?

Immediately realised, it didn't cut anywhere near as well as my parent old mower did.. and was harder to start..
If the grass was at all slightly damp or wet.. the grass would get stuck without reaching the catcher..

As a teenager,, I used to mow the grass. whatever the weather was like.. without any issues..

Pretty much had to now wait in the arvos to mow, the lawn.. to make sure the grass was seriously dry… before mowing it…

Went to the internet and googled it… yep… the New Honda Mower were pretty much a lemon, when it came to mowing any grass that was slightly wet.. plenty of people complaining that there old Honda mower did a much better job..

15 years later.. still with the same crap mower… almost wrecking my shoulder with the pull start each time.
$1000 mower isn't something you replace without a good reason..

Bought the Ozito battery mower a month ago.. on the ozbargin special…

No wrecked shoudlers and its about half to a third the weight of the old mower…
I actually look forward to mowing the lawn now..

    Lesson
P.S. Be careful about buying Honda Mowers.. do your research… I would deifnitley wever buy one again.. On the plus side.. it still works nearly fifteen years later..
Go battery… your shouders / and ears will thank you for it..

Only issues is that the grass catcher is a little small… But I can definitely cope with that… given I mow twice as often.. given it is more pleasurable to do.. and it takes almost half the time now…

      Cool story bro. 🤣

    • I am using B&D 36V mower right now. The battery powered machine doesnt work well for me especially during this time of year (have to recharge multiple times to complete job). I was looking forward for Honda petrol mower this Black Friday and I guess I have to do more research before jumping on the boat.

    • I have 2 HRU196s - Great mowers, increased the rpm on one of them and it has completely transformed the cut and ease of use

    • It's unfortunate to hear about the trouble with your Honda HRN216 mower. Here are some recommendations:

Service or Tuning: If your Honda mower is experiencing starting issues, it might need servicing or tuning. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning the carburetor and checking the spark plug, can improve performance.

Professional Assistance: Considering the persistent problems, it's advisable to take your mower to an authorized Honda dealer for assistance. They have the expertise to diagnose and address specific issues [1].

Quality Matters: As the saying goes, "you get what you pay for." While there are various mower brands, Honda is known for its reliability. It's essential to prioritize quality when choosing equipment.

Comparison with Other Brands: In comparing the Honda HRN216 to Bunning Ozito battery mowers, it's important to recognize the performance differences. Honda mowers are renowned for their durability and cutting-edge technology.

Remember, seeking professional help from a Honda dealer is the best course of action to ensure your mower receives the necessary attention and performs optimally.

      • This feels like a ChatGPT answer

    • i find it very hard to believe a cheap ozito electric would do anywhere near as good as the honda did on this wet grass you are complaining about?

    • I came here to say the same thing.

When we bought a house with a yard 7 years ago, everyone told me to buy a Honda mower. You'll only have to buy ONE for the rest of your life. Mine was $700 and boy was I exited to be mowing in luxury. Nope.

On one hand the thing starts very easy. It's an easy start one. Thats where the positives stop.

It's so heavy. What's the advantage of a steel deck?? Can't wash it because it'll get rusty, which mine has. And it's heavy as shit.

The main problem is not having any throttle control. It boasts 'smart' throttle control. I assume when there's a damp or longer patch of grass the thing will ramp the throttle up. Nope. It goes the other way and almost stalls.

I specifically got a mulching one too as I figured it'll take less total time due to not having to empty the catcher. Wrong again. You have to go over the same patch of grass 4 times to get it to mulch. And even then it'll leave streaks of cut grass.

I have to mow weekly in summer or the grass will be too long for the Honda to handle. Otherwise I have to jack the thing up (which has to be done on each bloody wheel) to max height and go over the lawn gradually dropping down the height with each mow.

I'm sure there are good Honda's out there though.

  • I have a HRN216VKU and I like it. The blades are a little high so I have added some spacers to cut lower. And I have tuned it so it revs faster.

Only real complaint is the self drive wheels often lose grip

  • Not bad - Though I think if you are spending this kind of money, throw in some more and get a HRU196
