You get charged the tradein amount when you make the trade. They refund it back (long) after they receive the trade. If they don't receive the trade they charge an additional $60.
Best practice is to trade generic earbuds for $1 to get the trade-in bonus.

Updated the samsung trade up app, and now it wont let me trade in the $1 device. Fun's over i guess.
Yeah, they removed the buds from trade-in. also, they disabled the newsletter link too (unless you already generated some before), not sure if it's only for this Black Friday.
I should have gotten JB to price match this and used the $600 trade in deal there. Now I'm just hoping they discount this in the lead up to xmas.
