Is this the one people keep saying it's an old model that sucks?

    • -7

Not quite: it's a 2021 model that was likely the lower binning for Samsung G9 240Hz panels at the time. Unclear if response times would be decent, but given the 21:9 panels with solid response times go for $500 and less, and that 21:9 OLED is $200 more, this isn't really a great deal.

      • +5

        But this is a 32:9, I don't think I'd compare it to 21:9s

        • -6

I can, and I just did, very clearly.

There's little value in paying double for something that's barely half a screen wider with likely poorer response times, nor is there little value in mediocre VA while OLED exists.

It's more affordable to buy two actual 27" monitors of this spec, and the G9 in question is likely to be $1200-$1300 across Nov-Jan while being 240Hz with fast response times… there's no version of this where it's a bargain.

Do not get sucked into buying ancient Samsung stock at mediocre prices… this happens every 4-6 months, I swear.

          • +1
          • @jasswolf: 49" is way better than 2 X 27 because you don't have a bezel right down the centre of your screen.

            • @bleeder: In this case it's $270 more just for that, probably with poorer response times, or $450 more for QD-OLED and vastly superior response times at twice the refresh rate.

              • @jasswolf: I don't care about response times, I want it for productivity, if I wanted to game I would probably go a 16:9. If this is such a bad deal, point me to the best budget option for a 49" 32:9 QHD

                • +1

@bleeder: How is an ultrawide more productive than two identical monitors?

There are only very specific editing workloads that benefit from that in the context of fitting cinematic work inside a workflow while being pixel perfect, but really you should be using something like a 16:9 5K monitor and a mastering panel so you actually track your work…

Or are you some sort of spreadsheet hound that hasn't figured out how to split view and synchronise in Excel?

I've already pointed out a vastly superior gaming and image work option for a little more, but there's nothing cheaper with those specifications, which is why I'm saying this is overpriced crap VA that doesn't serve any real purpose in today's market at this price.

                  • @jasswolf: So you're argument is more that 32:9 is useless?

I want to open up multiple windows in different sizes and have one right in the centre, I don't want a bezel right in the centre. And I want the option to go wider if I want on that centre window. I have 2 x 27 at work and I don't like it because I prefer one big screen, would even prefer a single 32

                    • @bleeder: If you're trying to be budget conscious and hit a lot of points in terms of technical performance, don't rule out a 42" LG C series OLED, noting that last year the C2 bobbed up for $1100 on Black Friday.

Has the pixel density you're after but it's more like a seamless 2x2 21" FHD monitor array.

                      • @jasswolf: I'm actually.look for C3 deals at the moment, earlier in the year C2 got below $1K. Still undecided on exactly which monitor I want. Desk probably a bit narrow for 42"

                        • @bleeder: In depth? Because the ultrawide would sit wider. Stand on the TV might be a concern though.

  • Return policy? What if we receive a unit with bad pixels?

    • You need to look up Samsung's pixel policy usually X amount need to be a certain type etc

  • Dealbot, any bargains on AirPods Pro 2?

  • -5

if only it was wider 69 inches

    • -6

Please keep it all age discussion…

  • +2

No Freesync (or Gsync) on this one, FYI.

    • -5

You shouldn't be buying a large super ultrawide monitor for gaming anyway. These are good for productivity, not video games.

      • +3

Well Samsung Neo G9 is there for a reason, AAA games like RDR2 or racing games looks incredible on ultrawide monitor

        • -4

They look even more incredible in VR or on a good 4K TV, the former usually for way cheaper at 120Hz.

      • +1

Currently using a 32:9 ultrawide and I don’t think I could go back to 21:9 for gaming. Idk about your other comment, but it just works out of the box in every game I have tried, even competitive games (e.g. csgo 2) where you would think it wouldn’t be allowed for the fov advantage. It’s quite something being able to monitor both long and short on dust 2 ramp.

  • Pity it's not the g95 49, dealbot :(

    • +1

      What's better with g95?

      • +2

        240hz, 1000r curve, hdr…

        • -3

Why wouldn't you just buy a 21:9 ultrawide if you plan on consuming content?
Super ultrawide doesn't have enough gaming support to be worth it.

          • +2

@jasonxc: This is incorrect information. The support these days is excellent.

            • -1

              @Raif: Wrong.

              • @jasonxc: Compelling argument. Well.. I own one, and I even regularly find indie games supporting super ultrawide. I would advise people to do their own research and not to be scared off by your misinformation.

                • -1

@Raif: There's a difference between "support" and "native support". You clearly don't understand what the latter entails.

  • -1

eBay doesn't allow to apply the "DEALBOT30OFF" code.

I didn't know that it was 8pm already.

      • -1

Clearly you're not in Ethiopia with podilamaya

  • +1

    Does anyone have this?
    Any feedback?
    Any good for officework?

  • +1

Anyone know: I have to regularly share my screen with people with fhd monitors, can I share just half of this Samsung? Currently sharing from 4k monitor and they can't see anything. I need to share screen with multiple apps inside it, not just an app

    • My Samsung has software to create virtual monitors from thd big one (you can do 2 rows even if you want to reduce to FHD). The software crashes on my work PC, but works on home one. It is probably someing to do with UAC, or some Cyber hardening.

    • Plenty of options, Google "split display software"

For your current display, just change output to 1920x1080 while you're presenting?

  • +1

    Doesn't ship to WA.

  • Super mega ultra wide paired with the actual rotten a**hole that is VA viewing angles seems like an oxymoron.

    • -1

      4th dot point, read it.

You don't need big viewing angles if it has that big a curve.

  • 49" Odyssey OLED G9 Curved DQHD Gaming Monitor is available for $1400 directly from Samsung.. is this better than S9 ?

    • +2

      How did you get $1400?

      • 10% off through bundle with storage device
        10% off first app purchase.
10% off loyalty voucher for monitors via email.
30% off.. i have already checked in cart. All codes stack.

    • What? I can't see it

      • 10% off through bundle with storage device
        10% off first app purchase.
10% off loyalty voucher for monitors via email.
30% off.. i have already checked in cart. All codes stack.

        • I would love to get that monitor for $1400 but I don't have any of those codes

how did you get the loyalty voucher and first app purchase voucher?

          • @MelBorn: The first app purchase is just purchasing any item through their android app and you get 10% off..
The loyalty voucher can be obtained via email or live chat.

  • Does anyone happen to know if this has an internal PSU or external power brick?

I can't seem to find much on it.

I've replaced my external power brick twice on my current monitor. Pretty sure it's just the capacitor dying over time, replacing the powerbrick would be a lot easier than soldering an internal PSU for me
