      • Looks like it only lasted about 25 minutes, link to the deal.

  • Thanks OP. Just got one.

  • +2

I have the 2015 model, but I am still using it till this day! It has never broken down on me, it's still damn reliable and prints clean pages.

I never been so impressed with a printer before. I was recommended this by a friend who was at uni and I decided to get one when I started uni and my god it's a good printer.

  • Great printer, just expensive toners.

Any recommendations for 3rd party options that are good?

    • +1

Just grab whatever is cheap on eBay.

I'm currently using this one, $13.50, cheaper with a coupon. I got a low toner warning recently after about 1500 pages. Print quality is good.

      • +1

        Amazon 3 pack for $33
        10 pack for $100

  • What would be Color equivalent to this

    • +3

      Brother HL-L8260CDW
I brought when last posted on here. Prints from sleep via wifi which is great. I've also got an epson ink with CISS and rarely use it now.

      • any good recommendations for 3 in 1 color laser printer?

  • Damn $25 delivery for me

  • +3

I've had the earlier model 2270DW for over 10 years and it's still going strong.
Towner lasts forever and you can find cheap generic towner on eBay.

  • +1

Most reliable printer I've ever had and cheapest generic toner too.
Would buy a backup if it's prone to breaking but unfortunately it's bullet proof!

  • +2

I have an earlier version of this purchased on special for $19 more than a decade ago.

It is still going strong, it just needs a $17 generic toner every 18 months or so.

    • what is the link to the toner?

  • use 15% tcn cards to bring it down further

  • +1

I have the compact version of this and it started streaking a few years ago. Put a new drum in but it didn't help. Printer originally cost $45. Unfortunately this one is a fair bit larger than mine, 36x36cm vs 34x23.

  • +1

now whats a color version on this that is cheap reliable and good prints, and supports cheap generic ink too

    • Also looking for a reliable colour laser printer

    • I'm also after a colour printer - appreciate some recommendations!

      • not a single recommendation from a deal with 370+ upvotes cmon ozbargain, printer nerds help us out.
Edit: just did some research, cheaest color one is like 305 dollars. brother-hl-l3230cdw

I have a similar Brother printer, the HL-L2300D (uses same toner cartridge). The best part about these printers is the aftermarket toner cartridge replacement is plentiful and cheap. I get mine off ebay for $12.50 express posted with ebay plus.

  • For some balance, I had this printer for 2 years, always had issues with WiFi/network set up. But at $99 I guess you get what you pay for. Right price point imo.

  • +2

I work for the largest printer/mfd company in Australia and I still have this printer at home. It's a great bang for buck mono printer.

    • Would you mind sharing based on your experience please what's the best bang for buck colour laser printer scanner combo for home use that works reliably over wifi?

      • +2

my knowledge is more focused on the higher end of devices but for home use I'd stick with Brother. They seem to be the least anti-consumer of the bunch

  • For the life of me I can't get wireless to work. So just running cable.

    • +4

Have you given WPS a try? You should be up and running in no time?

Dont b(r)other setting it up via software.

      • +1

Got it going. Was a WiFi issue. Now to figure out if I can print from my Samsung phone

        • Did you figure out printing from your phone? If so, is it a simple process?

      • I just bought one this morning and just set it up, it was quick and easy. Press the wps button on the router and then internet button on the printer. It connected then printed out a WLAN report.

    • Search YouTube for the model number, there's an easy way to enter wifi password on the printer if you can't setup with WPS button on the router.

    • +1

dont follow the setup guide as its garbage. join your wifi network through the settings on the unit, its fiddly but the only way it worked for me

      • I had the same experience. Manual through the machine.

  • The multi purpose tray capacity is only 1 sheet :(.

    • what is that tray used for and why only 1 sheet?

  • This or HL-L2445DW ($135 on TGG)

I get it's faster printing and higher quality and double sided. But is it worth $44 more?

    • link for TGG please

    • $36 more, no? Seems like a better deal

      • +1

Ended up going with the one posted here instead

        My reasoning below:
        - Generic Toner is more abundant and significantly cheaper for L2305W compared to L2445DW
        - Don't use double sided enough to need it
        - Print quality is slightly less on the L2305W

Overall generic toner abundance and price was the seller

        • Don't they both use the same toner?

        • can't you get generic toner for the HL model?

          • @pinkybrain: You can! It's not as abundant and cheap as the one posted

        • +3

thanks, I checked out the replacement cartridges for the DW…….. $157 vs $12.50 for the L2305w…. GEEZUZ!

    • If anyone has the Amex $20 deal, it brings it down to $105 and that's pretty nice indeed. Thanks for posting.

Regarding the toner, I think it's just so much more expensive because it's too new for generics to be out yet - this version only launched a month ago. It looks like every generation they launch slightly different single and duplex cartridges.

      • No worries! Enjoy! That might be why but i thought I'd be on the safer side for now

  • My HL-2270DW, since 2014, is still going strong. I think it looks exactly the same.

For people asking for a link for generic toner cartridges, they can be found on eBay. However, I have used this supplier for many years without any issues. I usually buy 3 or 4 at a time and they last for ages. Wife is a teacher so the printer gets quite a workout. These laser printers with generic cartridges have been a godsend.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/str/procolor2012

    • @megaclix In your opinion, how long does each cartridge last? Just bought a Brother printer, and am looking for reliable toner cartridges that don't cost a bomb but provide decent printing quality. Thanks

      • @sakura783
I don't have a reference point to original cartridges, as the only original cartridges I have used are the ones which come with the printer.

But these cartridges for me feel as long as I would expect from an original. They do at least 2 reams, but less than 3 (depends on coverage). This is for my current cartridge which is TN2450.

I used to have a smaller printer and cartridge (TN1070 cartridge). This was about 1.5 reams per cartridge, but it was cheaper and smaller.

I have had the DCP-1510 since 2015 and I get angry when I remember how HP inkjets made me suffer for so many years. Brothers are extremely low maintenance, have purchased generic cartridges since the beginning without any issues.

    • +1

+1, anger at my HP also

    • Inject printers in general have made me suffer all these years!

  • +2

best printer ever at this price. This is the next generation, I still own the white version of this one… still go strong after 13 years.. use it for return shipping label printing : )

  • Always had good luck with Brother printers.

  • +1

It has been marked as OOS since yesterday for me, living in the northern region of Sydney.

  • what's the best printer under $300 that I can claim immediate tax return? Looks like colour laser printers with scan and copy are over $500.

  • The DW is better than just W.
    DW = duplex + wifi

Brother printers are very good, reliable. And It can be reset easily if you use cheap 3rd party ink

Go to Aliexpress, search the cartridge name, you will be very good deal. You can buy ink powder in satchels to save even more.

  • No copy or scan ..great value if you want printer only

  • Hot toner ink is cheap and it is delivered within 24 hours

  • +2

So glad I dumped HP for brother. Good quality

  • +1

    Placed an order. Thanks OP

Edit: Received. Wireless printing was easy to setup using WPS. Happy with the test prints.

    • Yup Wifi was easy to set up and very reliable. The ones complaining about the wifi issue need to assign an static IP to the printer if it keeps resetting each time.

After having read so many rave reviews about Brother printers (after being 'scammed' by inkjet printers all these years ago), I bit the bullet and bought my first laser printer (Brother HL-L2350DW) yesterday. Originally I was going to buy it from CPL Online (currently for $139), which was the best price I could find. But then I thought of TGG (currently $149). I rang TGG yesterday (Nov 20) and asked what was the best price they could do. The rep was super sweet and gave me the price of $125, which I asked if it could go down to $120, which he then agreed. However, the printer wasn't available at my nearest TGG (apparently quite popular & limited stock available) so it has to be delivered. I then asked if he could ask his manager that, at first I was under the impression that I would pick up the printer for $120, so if now he could make it including postage it would be great. In the end, the manager agreed so I got my Brother HL-L2350DW for $120 including postage, and paid for it using a CR 3% gift card, and ended up paying $116.40 in total. Can't wait for my printer to arrive!

    • Can you screenshot the invoice?

  • Has anyone who has this printer, wished they had the duplex / 2 sided version?

For some reason I feel like I need both sides 🤣

    • +1

It depends entirely on what you print.

My main use case is shipping labels so don't need duplex. Very rarely do I need to print multiple page documents, in which case manually printing double sided is extra work but still possible.

If you're going to use duplex fairly often though I 100% recommend paying extra for it, the convenience is worth it.

      • thanks, I just looked up the price difference for the DW version of this………. LITERALLY more than 10X more expensive!!!
more than the cost of the printer by another $10

Might get the deal OP posted and just get on with it

        • +1

It looks like the The MFC-L2730DW is a decent compromise. Yes more expensive at $219 though have duplex printing, also colour scanning etc.
The toners are 2430 which is about $35 to replace (HEAPS better than 25xx series at $157 per replacement)

          • +1

@pete8oes: Also see the HL-L2350DW which is pretty much this printer but with duplex, toner is just a little more expensive. It's not on sale right now but it usually goes for around $130. No colour or scanning though.

            • @Hiphopopotamus: thanks mate, 'a little more expensive' is an understatement. If I'm right I saw $12.50 for OP's vs $157 for the 2350dw toner. geez that's steep

  • I've a much older version of this and still going strong

  • -1

any good recommendation for 3 in 1 colour laser printer from brother or any brand with good deal?

  • Mine came with firmware version 1.24… and I noticed I can download version 1.25 on the website. There's no release notes… hopefully the latest release won't break the ability to use 3rd party generic toners?

    • Please let us know :) 1.25 release notes are generic - minor fixes or some such. No reports seen out in the wild that 1.25 blocks anything.

  • Bought one of these.. really just to print return labels or the occasional form that needs to be printed.

It's fine.. as per the verge review lol.

  • I had an earlier version of this, gave it to my sister when I emigrated to Aus in 2012. She is still using it with generic ebay toner cartridges.

Bulletproof and cheap to run. The Corolla of printers.

There's a reason I keep seeing Epsons dumped in the street - it costs nearly $100 to replace the ink.

  • Up yours IDF, I mean HP.
    These Brothers are the bomb!

  • The toner is almost the same price as the printer.

    • +1

Buy generic toner, it's around ~$13 for one and less in bulk.

      • Do you own this printer? Is there one you can suggest that gave good results? On amazon the original toner gets much better reviews then the generic. Generic had lots of negative comments of not lasting 2000 prints, toner errors, lighter print colour.

        See here:

        https://www.amazon.com.au/Compatible-Cartridge-MFCL2700DW-MF…

        • I do have it. In my experience generic toner does print slightly worse quality and less pages, but it's 'good' and still fantastic value.

Just grab whatever, I imagine all the generic stuff is coming from the same factory. There are a couple of links in the comments too.

  • Yea I might buy one to test the waters. Cheers

  • About 2 years ago we bought the L3270CDW which is basically colour with duplex and it's been fantastic. It just prints. Oh, except that time it said I was out of toner about a year ago. I just jumped online and found the reset code for new cartridge and new printer!! works great guns again.

  • I still have the brass-bodied Brother Laser printer my great-grandfather bought to print off invoices in 1948. Those were really built to last. A friend has one of the first plastic-bodied ones from around 1967, but he had to replace the paper tray in 1995.

  • +3

Just did a double-sided print on this printer, it was easier than expected after the brain gymnastics.

Print odd (or even) pages > flip the whole stack upside down L to R (R to L) as is > print even (or odd) pages > done.

The pages come out exactly how they were in the tray, with the print side down and the top end towards the front of the printer. Pages are printed in order so they are arranged properly.

  • It is out of stock in Sydney stores as I checked mannually. Is there any way to find out which store have the printer around Sydney/nsw?

    • Have you managed to find stock anywhere in Sydney? Checking online shows that it’s out of stock :((

  • Still happily running my Brother HL-1110 from TGG, waaaaay back in 2015, for $28!

    Great little printer. :)

PS: never set any printer to look for updates. If it works, it works. The updates usually just take something away.

  • My one is beige so it's got to be at least 10 years old now. Just use it to print the shipping labels every few weeks. I've changed the toner probably once.
