Pioneer VSX-S300 AV Reciever with Satellite Speaker for $199

790

Copied from Dick Smith

Model #: Catalogue #: AE3650

The receiver that fits any rack space.

Just 85 mm high and 317 mm deep, Pioneer Slim Receivers are designed to fit in any popular TV or home cinema rack. And with the "Sound Wing" mode, they are the ideal companion for Sound Wing speakers for 360° surround with just 1 or 2 speakers.

The slim VSX-S300 brings you the basics of HD home cinema, with the option to intelligently adjust the sound according to the position of your speakers using MCACC. This way, you'll always be sitting in the sweet spot for perfect audio when watching a film or gaming. An AM/FM tuner is built-in.

Eco Mode is a special power-saving feature that reduces up to 60% of power usage through de-activating unused functions.

True home cinema
Turn your living room into a cinema with 5.1 HD surround sound. With speakers in the front, rear and middle and and a subwoofer connected, you'll immerse yourself in a lively film experience.

High-definition audio
Besides Dolby Pro Logic IIz, the receiver supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio so you can enjoy uncompressed, high-definition audio from Blu-ray discs as well.

The latest, convenient HDMI technology
With HDMI you can use this receiver to watch 3D video from a Blu-ray disc. Other convenient features include an Audio Return Channel for TVs with DVD player or Tuner built-in, for example, and Standby pass-through.

Connect your portable device
If you have a mobile device to play audio from, simply connect it to the receiver using the 3.5mm mini-jack on the front panel.

Intelligent speaker calibration
Surround speakers can hardly be ideally positioned. MCACC therefore analyses the existing sound field using a microphone (included), just like a sound professional, and adjusts the sound timings to precision-tune the system to your room

  • OK, obvious question - how do we think this one rates against the Vsx-521 for $99 (amp only). Vsx-521 appears to be more powerful and have heaps more inputs and outputs (including composite). On th other hand, this one is slimline and has speakers included (but could you get better speakers for $100 elsewhere?). Anyone know how sound quality compares? Planning on picking up one of the amps in the morning (if I can find one!)

    • where would you find speakers for $100? I'm thinking of doing the same as you….

      • +1

Firstly, don't go and try to listen to how well $2,000+ speakers sound. If you can tell the difference, you'll have to pay for it.

In isolation, I think this kit is pretty good. Uncompressed audio will sound even better, but you might like all movies to have more base and the ground to shake. You can spend hours to calibrate the speakers, then do it all over again the following week.

My suggestion is, these speakers are more than fine for up to say, $500. If you wanted to spend more than that, get off this particular deal and move on.

  • Just this morning was looking for a decent speaker setup with optical in to hook up for gaming (ps3, x360 and wii) and I come through this!!

Too bad this model has no components input for my wii etc, but will figure a way to convert those to hdmi or something -if even poss. yeah?)

    Thanks OzBargainers

  • +1

For component- couldnt you just connect it directly to the TV(RGB) and connect the Stereo audio into the AMP?

    • You're right' lol - I guess I was just being picky :(

  • If anyone is interested in the speakers PM me. I bought it a while ago but haven't used them.

  • IF anyone is brisbane- wants to part with their speakers PM me.

  • Hi, can anyone who got this combo set list out the box content for me? I have got a display today (without a box) and was supplied with limited items. I would like to know what's included. I just realised I haven't got the mic and the remote, and there might be even more that I was missing =(

Oh well and I was told DS has changed their return policy (no return for change of mind).

    • +2

But "change of mind" is different to "not being sold all the items". Take it back and demand some store credit for your troubles (on top of the refund).

    • The mic is handy for auto calibration of the speakers.

Got to say thanks to OP. Picked up the last one from my local Dick Smith and now using it on the tv. Very happy with purchase. Pretty easy to set up, even got complete noob like me!

Still available online I think. Good cheap upgrade for tinny tv speakers.

  • Hey guys,
Are these speakers to be used for TV?
What else can they be hooked up to mate?
    cheers

  • -6

    Yehaw, bought 5 x of them! :P
I already have two 5.1's in my lounge (different brand)
    Collect them all!!!!!

  • How big is the subwoofer guys? 8inch or 10inch?

  • Does anyone know the RMS of the subwoofer?

    • Yeah, zip details on the speakers hey. Still worth the risk, they are surely decent.

  • Do the satellite speakers have the doohickey holes in the back for wall mounting?

    Thanks

    Richard

    • It's got holes. That's how mine are mounted on stands.

  • Bummer. Looks like Brisbane is out of stock.

  • If the speakers are half-decent this is pretty good.

    Just checked stock:
All my local stores have none in stock and it's raining outside right now so… :)

I could probably be tempted if it had far more analogue ins/outs. I don't care too much for the slimness.

Happy listening to those who got one.

  • From what I can see only a few left online

  • After not being able to order online I went to the store to see if they had any. After unsuccessfully ringing about 5 stores I managed to grab the last display model in Melbourne. Looking forward to setting it up. Thanks for the upload. Great deal.

    • how r ya chris, is the sub 8inch or 10inch mate? and does it hit hard?

      • the sub is pretty small, at least smaller than my Z5500, but for myself, I cant tell the difference between them.

        • good stuff i should've bought this system but too late now

    • Is that what they told you? I walked into the Hastings store an hour ago and purchased their one and only. The guy working told me there is one other one left in the state, didn't say where though.

  • Anyone set theirs up yet? I cant seem to get the optical TV input to work with the receiver set to "TV (Optical)". Tried 2 different working optical cables.

  • if anyone in sydney change her/his mind and want to sell this, pm me. thanks

  • If anybody wants to buy the speakers and sub off me, pm me.

    • By the way, I live in Sydney.
