High quality powered speakers and very good value for the price. The ribbon tweeter sets it apart.

  • The newer Adam D3V are also discounted to $436 at DJ City and Better Music.

Not necessarily a better/more powerful speaker, but a more compact one if you're looking for a pair of desk monitors. Slightly fuller bass and a tad more neutral out of the box too.

  • +1

Pity no free ship to WA.😑

  • I wouldn't buy Adam Audio due to the cost of local support their switches get stuck and they want to charge $50 for the switch and at least $120 for the repairing. The switch costs below $5 …

  • What are people's thoughts on the sound quality vs JBL 305P II's? Been rocking this setup (along with the LSR310 subwoofer) on the desktop for quite a few years now and been wanting to try something different (better?).

Always heard good things about Adam's but never really had chance to audition one, haven't looked in a while but from memory the T5V used to cost quite a bit more?

    • I held off for years buying a pair of speakers for this exact reason. Didn't want to commit to something 'on paper' without hearing it first. Finally went to StoreDJ one day expecting to buy the ever popular Yamaha HS but liked the look of the JBLs as well. Ironically, they both ended up being the worst to my ear; best in that bracket of quality/price was Presonus, hands down. KRKs were OK but overrated. Then decided to listen up and try out the more expensive stuff with ribbon tweeters etc. ADAM, EVE. Ended up walking out with a pair of ADAM F7s for a bit over $1000 at the time, and it wasn't even a question once I heard them compared to the other lower grade lines. I don't feel like the F7s are lacking but I do kinda regret not getting the EVEs, although to be fair they were double the price.

I haven't heard the T series compared to the F but I wouldn't imagine they are night and day different. Maybe do some research and see how the compare between the lines, since the T series are quite a bit cheaper than F (but discontinued anyways, only the A series still remain).

I'd recommend the 7 inches if you have the space.

      • Yea I started off with the Yamaha HS50M many year ago; coming from PC speakers those were amazing but at the same time definitely bit rough and fatiguing. Heard good things about the JBL so went to check it out DJ City at the time along with the Mackie MR5 something IIRC and found that both sounded great with the JBL having a wider sound stage while Mackie had more depth but I ended up going with the JBL because the Mackie cut off at the low end a lot earlier and the 305P II just sounded richer and deeper.

I hated the KRK Rokits thought they sounded so muddy compared to everything I’ve tried up to that point.

I still really enjoy the 305P’s today though it’s biggest weakness IMHO is that it sounds a bit boxed in at lower volumes but really comes alive when you turn it up loud (and really does show how subjective sound is the fact that you hated the JBL haha) but if I were to get new speakers I do want to make sure it’s a proper upgrade and not side grade. I’ve always been interested in the ribbon tweeters but I also listen to a lot of heavy rock/metal stuff (which I think the JBL does great at) so not sure if going with those ribbon tweeters will make a difference.

So yea I think I just gotta pull the finger out of my arse and go in to a store and do a proper audition lol…

    • Didn't neg, but not a great choice in terms of flexibility because while they might have a bit more heft in the bass, they're not more neutral, and they are ultra-nearfield (and they are massive speakers for that kind of application, for which Adam has made the D3V and it works really well below 80dB).

The T5V is intended as nearfield but operate well at midfield, and can be used even as a farfield option in a pinch. The UNF is a much better deal in the USA compared to here (at least for now). The direct competitor to the T5V would be the LP-6 v2, but they are bigger again than the T5V while having poor vertical dispersion.
