Cheapest 5800H I have seen. The next jump in performance would be Zen 3+/4, RDNA 2/3 and DDR5 but that's in the next price bracket. If you don't need the iGPU then Intel is competitive.

  • Fair specs. I wonder how the cooling does for such a compact unit.

    • Probably not the same, please take it with a grain of salt.

Brought a trigkey n100 16gb unit a month ago, the fan is loud and annoying. You can goto bio and adjust the temp thresholds higher so it doesn't run like crazy but it's just plain annoying. Smaller the fan faster it runs… Gotta compensate somewhere I guess.

      • By the way, was the N100 model the G5 with the dual LAN?

    • +1

I have one of these, can't hear the fan under normal use

  • I bought one of these when it was on sale below $400 2 months ago, I only use it for browsing and playing Dota 2. Prertty decent I can say and I have no complain about the fan.

  • What is the regular price on these?

    • The camels say $679

      • +1

These mini PCs have frequent sales and coupons, for the 5800H the Beelink version was generally a little cheaper sitting around ~$480.

  • Ryzen 5 5560U
is $379 (after applying $100 coupon).

I'm seriously out of the PC-building 'game' for a long time now,
but I have some basic questions:

    • are these AMD Ryzen chips 'better' than Intel ones ?
I mean, are these more for gamers or
is it just better value for CPU speeds
      ( I'm not a gamer at all )

    • are these brands "trusted" (eg. Trigkey, Beelink, etc.)?
I mean, I'm used to ASUS motherboards and using refurbed Lenovo PCs.
So, getting firmware updates was kind of regular and easier to get.

I'm just looking for around for a small foot-print PC , like a NUC,
and want to get something during these Black Friday sales,
as I think it's time for an upgrade but I want to stay away from Win11, hah

Just looking for good NIC , WiFi, decent amount of USB slots, etc.

There are so many different Ryzen chips, all have different pro/con etc.
Better and newer units come with WiFi 6/BT 5.2 on a M.2 slot, the cheaper ones have older WIfi 5/BT 4.2 and are soldered on board.
Antenna placement can also cause havoc/issues.
The 5560U chip is a combination of the Zen3 cores with the Zen2 Graphics with low power consumption (I think), so it will be well suited to general computing with 6 cores/12 threads.
Cooling/fan noise is also a challenge with the mini pc dimensions and power consumption, the U series Ryzen make this a bit simpler due to the lower power consumption to - I seem to recall the 5560 being reviewed as a quieter unit than others.

      • different Ryzen chips, all have different pro/con etc.

I get that chips have Pros & Cons,
and for someone who has plenty of ideas of computers
but not familiar with AMD product range,
what's the benefits when compared to Intel ?

I remember AMD chips were alright, 20 years ago,
but they just lacked L2/L3 cache that Intel had,
and for gaming, Intel was better.

        Unless AMD Ryzens are 'safer',
ie…it does not have the NSA backdoor built in,
then, I guess I'm sold, haha

5560 being reviewed as a quieter unit than others.

Ah yes, I would prefer something quieter too.
My current small footprint Lenovo M93P runs silently,
except the odd outbursts of fan noise.

        • +1

One CPU brand is not "safer" than the other, the higher-end of the AMD low power chips have better graphics (and drivers) than Intels on-board GPUs, which is why most people gravitate toward trhem. They also tend to be less expensive than Intel.

          • @Tater: …I was checking out some AI imagery today,
and interested in trying out some of them,
but I don't want to get a tower PC with GeForceTi card.

Also, now that you mention the graphics capabilities,
I could be swayed towards AMD then.

It's just that, in my mind from many years ago,
AMD chips were cheaper but they just didn't compete with Intel.
It seems that over the last decade,
AMD performance must be best bang-for-buck then.

            I'll check them out.

I'm just looking for good post-sales driver support.
Also, compatibility with different frameworks, eg. CUDA, etc.
I find sometimes my current cheap onboard Intel GPU,
is just not playing nice with many demanding programs.

The other thing I prefer is non-soldered components,
            ie. RAM, SSD, etc…

It's just that I am out of the PC-building game,
and I don't want to get into it again
because I'll spend too much researching and reading reviews,
…until I go blue in the face, haha

    • +1

These Beelink/Trigkey/Minisforum units are all pretty similar - 4-6 USB ports, Intel or Realtek NIC and all have WiFi
      Define "trusted"
For firmware updates it would likely be Minisforum/Beelink ranked up there, then all the rest
