https://www.amazon.com.au/Outdoor-Security-Monitoring-Spotli…

Quick Summary: v3 ideal for indoor setup, v3 Pro highly recommend outdoors due to higher detail (2K) and 'People' motion detection alerts, no subscription required but one Micro SD card required per camera if you want to record and review playback (note: card goes in the camera, if the cam gets taken then so does the card), Wyze offer paid cloud storage. The app will alert you instantly to motion detections. You can setup rules to switch on cameras if you are away from home location. Spend more than $59 to get free delivery (ie, stack cam(s) with cards / cables). EDIT: US company (consider which country your cameras are made and where your security footage may be stored).

Micro SD Cards - Current Samsung EVO micro SD Black Friday Amazon AU sale link below for convenience. Consider which power point to connect the camera to: 1.8 m cable provided per cam. Longest cable distance is 5m (see link below) due to voltage limits. Cams must be within wifi range. View via free Wyze mobile app, see multiple cams, can share cam out securely (eg monitor separate family member residence).

Wyze Cam v3 with Color Night Vision, Wired 1080p HD Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera $51.95 (EDIT: now $49.99 on Black Friday)

More detail below, which is important I believe due to all the technical aspects. I find them great value, cheapest DIY setup, Wyze are a US based company:

  • I have both v3 and v3 Pro: so easy to setup, simply pair camera with your free Wyze mobile app, place within wifi range, affix via provided 1 x screw\magnet plate.
  • in a rental or just want to relocate the cams? easy, remove the single screw, dismount the cam\cable\plug and take it with you.
  • requires power point. both plug and 1.8 m cable included. recommendation is to mount up high 2m-3m to give best view and deter tampering.
  • v3 ideally indoors due to these benefits: alerts to all motion (anything moving, eg in controlled environment such as garage), night IR lights can be set to visually undetectable
  • price says rrp is $59.99, but recent lowest price has been $65

Wyze Cam v3 Pro Wired Indoor/Outdoor 2K Smart Security Camera, Color Night Vision, Spotlight $84.98
LINK - https://www.amazon.com.au/Outdoor-Security-Monitoring-Spotli…

  • requires power point. plug and 1.8 m cable included
  • v3 Pro ideally outdoors due to these benefits: 2K quality (slightly more detailed via out to street etc), 'People' motion detection (alerts to people, not just anything\everything)

Insert a Micro SD card for continuous recording (no subscription required), Samsung EVO cards currently on sale for Black Friday (33%-56% off) 64 GB $9, 128 GB $18, 256 GB $22
LINK - https://www.amazon.com.au/Samsung-Memory-Adapter-Limited-War…

  • multiple selections on offer via Amazon AU link
  • Wyze Cam v3 models support up to 256gb. I find that 128 gb gives around 10 days recording \ playback functionality. 64 gb perfectly fine & cost effective for basic v3 setup (about 5 days recording), I use 128 gb for Pro (2K) which i setup outdoors and might want more days to check back on. Though 256 gb great sale value at the moment.

These cameras require a power point (1.8m \ 6ft cable included). Running a longer setup? Use up to a 5m cable max distance.

  • multiple order selection via Amazon AU link (non Wyze 3rd party brand, I have two v3 Pro models running fine via these 5m cables)
  • 5m single cable best value
  • these are ok under cover (eg outdoors) away from weather (protect outdoor plug). Wyze have their own weather rated outdoor cable\plug if that suits.

    Great detailed post.

    For people considering,
    - Wyze had a major vulnerability (maybe fixed now?) that took three years to fix.
    - Although the camera works without subscription, check out the subscription model they have and what features are offered and possibly ongoing costs.

Tapo C120 seems like it's better https://youtu.be/GaUkM6Mfxl4?si=tKNYw9Il1EVWnR7i LifeHackster Review

    • Interesting, thanks for sharing. I have about 6 Wyze cams, 1 being the 2K Pro and generally happy. Tapo C120 having a few more features not behind a subscription is great. Might get one to try when they are on sale locally.

    • C120 not available in Aus. Also, deal breaker for me would be no rich text thumbnail preview pic notifications (which Wyze provide) - I rely on these to quickly check if it's actually a person or false positive. TP-Link that make Tapo are Chinese based. Other than that the US price looks ok and it's otherwise competitive with the V3 Pro.

  • still salty about wyze not honouring their half price deal

  • Wyze Cam v3 works well until it doesn't. Had one bricked because of a failed firmware and they wouldn't do anything about it or acknowledge it. Subscription renew/cancellation is a mess as well, I had two, and wouldn't give me a refund as one was bricked 5 days into a new renewal. I'm going to bin it once the next subscription ends (unless it breaks before hand). Grab the Tapo C210 instead imo.
