Hows Your 'Black Friday-Cyber Monday'

I/We moan a fair bit when things like click frenzy, Prime Day, etc are 'major' let downs and hype merchants. - But im going to say this black Friday/Cyber Monday for me has been one of the 'best/better' sale weekends i have seen since last black Friday.

I want to thank the Ozbargain community for the large number of GREAT post posts from 50 percent off Pirelli Tyres, to numbers of solid 'cashback' deals and of course the TCN 15 percent off….. etc

I have been waiting for this weekend for awhile as there has been a 'few' things i have been hoping to get well below RRP - Black Friday has delivered. But i only can speak for myself.

So the poll question is simple have you had a good Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend

Been great. Got an iPhone 15 pro 512gb for roughly $1600 with gift card tomfoolery.

4 new set of tires fitted and balanced at mycar for $597

A bunch on cashback for kids/nephews etc Christmas presents.

Was definitely a good black friday. Missing some TV deals but overall good.

    • +1

Wow besides the gift cards how did you get the iPhone so low? Or was it only gift cards?

        • How'd you only pay $800 back on the gift card? T&C's say the voucher is issued on a pro rata basis and for x amount of unused months in the plan, you will need to pay that portion of the voucher back.

    • +4

4 new set of tires fitted and balanced at mycar for $597

That's dirt cheap for 4 sets of tires.

      • +1

I'd offer to buy 4, but I need tyres.

      • define "dirt cheap".

I can get 4 x Bridgestone 195/60R15 88V Ecopia EP300 fitted and balanced at Costco for $527 right now, and I think I paid about that recently without any special sale events.

Of course depends on the type of tyre but point is around $600 for 4 tyres fitted is not seem special. That said, getting that price from mycar, is probably usually as they do charge more than other places so is the deal relative to the retailer?

Getting to the point, I don't think any of the deals I've seen are particularly special, not to say they are bad but nothing usual. e.g. I ordered a Nvidia shield which was 278 which is "good" as a price, but the best this year was around $218 (with a long period to buy) and I think some spot deals went under $200 if you were fast. $278 from a real store with a proper warranty instead of Amazon AU fraudsters with their 30 day warranty I feel is a deal but probably not black friday worthy deal!

If whoever owns this ozbargain site was to add some functionality it would be helpful to integrate some of the historical price websites in to a deal was shown against historical pricing, then "dirt cheap" would be less of an opinion and a bit easier to assess.

Anyway that I think is the only deal I found this weekend. :( but my definition of dirt cheap is at least 25% less than normal RRP (not inflated RRP for Black Friday discounting).

        • +12

u wrote a whole essay when the joke was just pointing out "4 sets of tires" = 16 tires when moleski meant to say "4 tires" (1 set)

    • +5

16 tires for $497. $37~ per tire. Bargain!!! what do you do with 16 tires though ?

      • +1

        wear them in swimming pool

    • +2

An iPhone for $1600 is a good deal??? What in the actual F!

  • +5

    Average

Only got 1 item as I wasn't actively looking for sales, as I don't really need anything.

But I wanted new black downlights for a long time from beacon lighting, specific model they only stock and I got 1 at 20% off to test it at my home. That 1 fits and works perfectly, I just needed 8 more.

I went to the website to purchase 8 more but I decided to look around one more time and noticed they have the same 20% off in their eBay store. Added 8 to my cart, and I had a coupon to -$50 on eBay if I spent over $500 and eBay had free shipping. Not bad.

    • +1

Oh thanks I forgot I wanted lights.

  • +4

still waiting for 1 year sim plan with low 60gb data, mine exp in 4 days

    • +3

      Catch connect for $89

      • +5

He probably wants to be able to make and receive calls all year round as well

  • +8

Best haul of BF was probably that price error $99 KAMRUI Mini Pc with 512GB SSD and 16GB of RAM

Followed by the mwave $5 Kingston M.2 NVME SSD, $30 16GB kit of 3600mhz RGB RAM, and Anker SoundCore Vortex for $10.99 on Amazon, $28 dollar FitBit and two "price error" Wuben G2's.

Plus about 5 pairs of shoes, some as cheap as $11.99 for a pair of sneakers, and $5 pair of women's flip flops.

    • +2

      Damn

    • +8

Jesus. How did you snag all that?

EDIT: In the KAMRUI post, one buyer said his had malware. I strongly recommend you clean install Windows on yours.

      • +5

2 people have negged me. I wonder why?

      • Yeah, you can get some cheap cheap mini pc/android tv boxes off of aliexpress, but they've all got malware or are doing something you didn't agree to.

  • +2

Bought some discounted johnny bags, now all I need to do is find someone to use them on

  • +5

Is it me or no decent CR? Or are we expecting that over the weekend??

  • +4

Got a new Bosch fuel pump for a project car for $1 (rrp $90). It wasn't a BF special, just randomly came across it on clearance by accident while searching for other shite.

    news.com.au headline on monday
rba governor now blames inflation on ozbargain, not on haircuts and seeing the dentist

    • Yeah it is pretty funny

Unless she's found cheap medication to stop all our head growing then it is no go

Potentially a sugar tax to stop people going to the dentist but then it is going to take a long time to have effect

I can see a lot of people didn't get to see the dentist during lock downs or revenge eating as accelerated tooth decay

      Interesting times we live in

      • get haircuts at home or the local hairdresser collage

for dentist, get a dental plan!

        • +1

for dentist, get a dental plan!

Healthy insurance going up too. Underlying dentist rates going up.

You don't think the ABS going on OzB to measure rate of inflation do you?

  • Got the ath twx9 for quite cheap.

Some bday presents. Some shoes. Not the cheapest, but for the quality (xplr boost for 105), oooo so good.

  • +1

$400 LG 4k projector was a pretty good win 🙂

  • +15

So much junk out there, haven’t spent anything this BF

  • I had one item on my list and after spinning a 40% discount on the LG site last week, I was eagerly watching the TV I wanted, checking it's availability and getting ready for the coupon to drop.
So it drops on Friday, go to the TV I wanted and bam, outta stock.
No problem, I'm saving a bit so I'll go the whole hog and get top of the range for once in my life, bam outta stock.
Guessing they'll come back into stock once the promotion is finished…
The coupon lasts until end of January, so hopefully they have another discount so I can use the coupon for a great bargain.

  • +6

Been busy doing price protection claims. Haven't bought a thing!

  • Come on black Friday or whatever always a disappointment unless you are happy with the item that is discounted. These sales usually mean items they can't sell on sale.
I'm just sick of rewards discounts, why don't they pass it directly to the consumers instead of through a middle-man?

  • +6

There’s no way apart from a very rare few that these “Black Friday” deals are actual deals. Most of the price reductions are garbage and the ones that aren’t have limited stock and gone in 15 minutes.

  • +2

Rubbish, haven't bought anything. Needed some specific PC components, none have got close to a great deal

  • I got my other son the newest Samsung A9+ tablet for $327 using a discount code and when I went to pick it up I scored a free coffee, donut, slice of pizza and Messina icecream due to a centre promotion. 😀
On the other hand, Im disappointed, I was looking at a pair of shoes for my son on Myer's website last night and had planned to go and get them today but the the price jumped up $20 😥

    • Can you pls share the discount code for the tablet?

      • Hi, yes, it's WELCOME20 $20 OFF your first order over $199 @ Bing Lee. Use code at checkout. You may need to subscribe to their newsletter first.

  • +2

I haven't bought anything in the black friday sales but have been watching Ozbargain and a few other sales.

There have been decent deals but I don't really need anything. I've thought about buying a few things just because they're cheap but realistically, they'd sit around, get minimal use, and add to clutter.

  • +1

I’ve bought a few things that have been on my wish list for a while.

    Nike Metcon 9s for $140
A bunch of clothes from Lululemon
A couple of board games from Amazon
PS5 (and weirdly a second one has turned up…)
    PS5 games and controller
    Discounted travel insurance

Overall happy with the deals available.

    • +1

what's some good board games u snap up?

  • +2

Got a 55" LG C3 at JBHiFi for $1888 after pricematch, used with 15% off ultimate gift cards bought a couple of months ago.
The black friday sale price at JBHiFi before pricematch was pretty poor.

    • Agreed, been pretty underwhelming. JB HiFi and Good Guys have been merciless, being based in Melbourne they held out on providing the $1888 ApplianceGiant matching especially now that it’s on back order.

If anyone has a spare 30% or more LG Spin and Win and wants to help out, I’m trying to get an LG C3 55” sorted for the local lawn bowls club break room and would appreciate the support!

  • +4

    $99 Sonos Roam
    $68 Oral B Toothbrush
    $69 Blunt Umbrella
Plus a few gift cards here and there.

Spent way less than I even did last year. But I’m happy with the deals I got, and it’s good for my wallet, good for the environment and good for my health that we spend less.

    • good for my wallet, good for the environment

that's one thing no one will tell you,
      ie.
not spending = good for environment !

  • +2

Some of the cheap laundry liquid I ordered was cancelled from Amazon, as "undeliverable". Kind of annoying. I like to stock up when cheap and it was cheaper than the half price Colesworth often do.

Those JOBY phone stands at like 90% look like they are still coming. JOBY is decent quality so looking forward to keeping some and giving the rest to family for xmas. Sure they'll find a use for them. Maybe. I also got the action arm thing for $5, like a selfie stick but you can rotate the phone at the end of the stick with a little fishing rod reel thing. I'm sure I'll definitely find a use for that 🙄

  • I think the only bargain I jumped on was Unstable unicorns for around $15

  • It's been poor for me. I am looking for a new av receiver, had the one picked out, and was waiting for this black friday. It was cheaper on thursday.

The stores just stick up a 'black Friday' banner up, but really just doing the normal sales.

    • Amazon just knocking a few bucks off the regular price and calling it a day for many items I looked at, despite seeing the discount rate being compared to a much higher RRP figure

  • +4

It's best the best one for me. Have saved the most by resisting and not purchasing anything.

  • +1

Got a LG Oled 77C3 for $3800, so pretty good I suppose. Probably more than I should have spent on a tv, but I’ve been thinking of upgrading my tv for a while so I like to think I got it for a decent bargain.

    • +1

That's a good price for that TV!

I think you did well mate!

    • +1

Agreed, that's a good price. I bought the LG77G3 for $4799 which I consider a bargain given the RRP 8400. Blackfriday prices combined with a 20% off spin to win coupon.

  • Pretty happy (especially once the cash rewards tracks) m2 air 15” 16/512gb $2470 (detracting the free gift cards). Paid with discounted gift cards (which I got for 20% off and 15%) hence saved approximately another $440. All in (after gift cards and cashback) cost about $1900 plus can claim gst during upcoming trip overseas.

  • Bought new pc at msy but the processing seem to be taking longer than usual when it says 1-2 hours on the product

  • +3

I really feel it used to be a time to get proper bargains, now it's another "sale" that's not really a sale with mediocre discounts by the retailers who are half-heartedly participating. That or they're doing too well to need to discount things.
Glad to see from the comments above I'm not the only one thinking this.

  • +2

I went to Hardly Normal and got a free coffee demo.
No other reason to go there?

  • +1

    Pretty good
    1.Bought ps5 bundle with 15%off tcn cards(went to 4 Coles around 10-11pm, most cards are $30 already)
2.bought rg35xx for $78 on eBay with 22% off coupon.
3.bought some shirts from Target 30% off.

  • Got a Sony X95K 75" for $2.5k, Samsung Q930c for $664, Google pixel pro 128GB for $1277 and some alcohol delivered by Dan with savings of $50.

    Will remember this Black Friday!

    • I know you were originally after the 75" QN85C Neo QLED 4K, but well done on getting the Sony X95K for that and posting it as a deal. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough, I'd love to get it for that price

Just double checking, is that $2.5K inclusive of gift card discounts?

      • Thank you! I hope the price returns for boxing day. Q-Symphony is the only thing I'd miss for switching to Sony, but happy to accept that for a better image.

It popped up as $2888+$59 delivery. I walked into Springvale store and told I will sign up for $99 Telstra plan to avail the $1100 gift card. So, they offered it for $2900 delivered with 4 year extended warranty. The receipt showed the TV price to be $2485.

I was with amaysim and the reception was poor in our new place, so I was looking to switch and then the outage happened. Used the opportunity to switch to Telstra. Telstra is no better, so it is probably my house. It has been a week and I will give it a month. If it does not improve, will cancel the plan and try Vodafone.

        • If I could get a pic of that receipt it would make my day ;)

  • $50 off a $330 phone I was going to buy anyway on ebay, can't complain about that

  • Got the Samsung Frame 75 inch for around 1.7k. Pretty happy with that

  • I bought a Sonos Roam from HN… says stock has been delayed. Expecting my order to be cancelled.

  • Looking for 24" monitor, none on sale. Maybe mon?

  • +1

    Got some good deals:

The PS5 deal, bought a LG G2 65inch display TV in like new condition for $1800, also got the iPhone 15 Plus 256gb for $1700 minus 15% gift card and GST refund when I travel next year.

    • How’d you end up scoring that G2? Haven’t seen any listed for sale recently

  • Sales are Definitely better than the past few years but the ‘amazing’ deals are hard to find

  • I managed to snag a dozen Victron 75/15 mppt controllers for like $72 each, that’s a bloody good deal. I notice now they’re oos lol. Actually, grabbed a bunch of Victron gear for well below rrp, so I’m stoked with it. Bunch of shite for Christmas presents too, so pretty good this time around

  • Sonos Roam for 99 from HN
2x Sonos One SLs for 185 ea from TGG
Didn’t need either but 60% and 40% discount respectively was enough to pull the trigger

  • +3

You have to know what you want in advance and then track the price for a few weeks before hand. Then you can hook a very competitive price. Our best prices were two weeks BEFORE Black Friday With a cash back if the price dropped further on BF. We saved an extra $220 on the BF sale price by buying earlier.

  • +6

All these sales regardless of time of year are mostly BS.
Price jacking then a discount BS.
or limited stock for free advertising BS.

  • I bought a lot of camera accessories from Amazon (grips, cages, filters, memory card, strap, video monitor), a watch box and some clothes from Uniqlo. Discounts varied from 10-30% off.

Spent $800 while full price would have been ~$1000.

  • Haven't bought anything, f black friday!

  • It’s been pretty poor.

Unless you waited for the $506 PS5’s, I can’t see anything else that was spectacular

  • Its been ok for me, bought some stuffs and other deals came at lower price… Should Cyber Monday have similarly good deal to Black Friday?

  • The only thing i got was a meme 360 cpu fan from mwave for $150 don't know if it's good or not but it was supposedly discounted

I need a PSU for cheap PCIE5 if i grab that it's alright. hopefully i have contributed with increasing inflation

  • +2

It's been decent so far. I was happy with the eBay $264 airpod 2 pro deal, needed some for a gift. For me I got some 2TB Samsung T7 Shield drives @$167 each. So far just stuff I actually needed, managed to avoid any impulse buying including gift cards which can be a trap. Seen a few good deals, the LG C3 42" pricing is excellent, if I hadn't already picked up a 42" Sony A90K a few months back I'd have jumped on that for my PC monitor.

Biggest disappointment has been mobile 60GB SIM only 12 month deals, which could be had for around $40 per year after cashback in previous years and now have more than doubled in price since Amaysim have stopped selling them, best price is $89 catch connect with no international calls, so much worse than previous years.

    • +1

are you me? So far I've only bought the $264 APP2 and the 2TB T7S

      IMO a solid black friday

  • Big ticket item for me is the Lenovo Legion Go Z1 Extreme

Bought a Anker 737 for it

Also stocked up on some coffee and 'healthy' snacks that are usually quite pricey compared to the supermarket alternatives.

And stocked up on some protein powder and supps for them gainz (non-Amino Z as there were some other specific flavours I have been meaning to try)

  • Reckon if there's a chance of new deals on Monday?

    • +2

I dare say 'some retailers' will slash stock they were 'hoping to clear'

      Ie Puma, Addias etc

  • Very good. Bought a Desky Hardwood Sit/Stand Desk.

  • I was really disapointed.

Three items i was hoping for a discount on Ipad 10th Gen, Xbox S, Kobo Nia. All had the same price across the week prior and during.

I had a couple of items i had purchased prior and kept boxed in case they were cheaper and they were not.

It was nice to see a couple of booze cashbacks again i suppose but that was it.

  • Amazon sitewide flat cashback where?

  • I didnt want to buy anything because over-spent on my last holiday trip but got:

    A Hat in Time PS4 $7.59
Disco Elysium - The Final Cut PS4 $9.11

    Not too bad.
