St George Vertigo Credit Card: 10% Back as Statement Credit for 6 Months ($400 Cap) at Selected Supermarkets, $55 Annual Fee

70

Was hunting around for the best cashback cards at supermarkets and found this deal is active again.

T's and C's below. (Would be interested to know from others who have held this card, whether they can actually tell regular transactions from gift cards)

This cashback promotion is available when you apply and are approved for a new Vertigo credit card between 7th November 2023 and 30th April 2024, then use it at a participating supermarket and petrol outlets within 180 days from card approval. You will receive 10% cashback on each eligible spend at a participating supermarket and petrol outlets, capped at maximum of $400 per card account. Cashback will be paid as a statement credit to your Vertigo credit card within 30 days of each eligible spend. Your credit card account must be open in order to receive the cashback. If your card is suspended or cancelled, the credit will not be applied. Cashback is only available on one credit card account per customer. This cashback does not form part of the account’s minimum monthly repayment.

Participating supermarkets and petrol outlets: Each supermarket’s and petrol outlets eligibility is based on its merchant classification. While most major and many independent supermarkets and petrol outlets are participating, those not classified in the Supermarket, Grocers and Service Station merchant categories will not be participating. Examples of supermarkets not participating include: Coles Express, Costco, Metropolitan Fresh and wholesaler supermarkets.
Spend Exclusions: Gift card or eGift card purchases at participating supermarkets are not counted as part of eligible spend. Eligible spend also excludes fees, cash, cash-equivalent transactions, third party payments such as AfterPay, BPAY, PayPal or PayPal equivalent.
Existing credit card customers who held a St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2023

  • Do you get Cashback on gift card purchases from Colworth?

    • Gift card or eGift card purchases at participating supermarkets are not counted as part of eligible spend. :(

It says that but I don't see how they'd know what you're buying.

It seems like it's just detecting it buy the merchant category as opposed to having any direct link with the supermarket, who can then confirm whether you bought gift cards or not.

      • It will likely still work when buying gift cards. As mentioned, St George relies on the merchant category and has no way of knowing what you actually bought. Gift card purchases at Colesworth will still show as Grocery stores/Supermarkets. I know this because others were using the Shopback Supermarket gift cards to purchase gift cards at Colesworth which also relied on the merchant category.

Thought it is ongoing.. excited for a sec 😅

    • Ha - so did I, but then read down further…

  • Anyone used these types of offers before?
I pay my CC in full when I get a statement on a due date.
Do they pay 30 days after each eligible transaction or just a combined transactions in this month?
Say, I spend $50 daily at Coles. Is it 10% of a $1500 at the end of a month, or pretty much nothing in the first month as you have to wait 30 days after each transaction?

  • just one month I to it, waiting to see any cash back

    • Did you get a statement yet?

  • Just wondering if anyone got cashback of buying GC? I know it is officially excluded but it seems like technically untraceable.

  • Meh?
    Exclusions kill it.
