      • i do, im hoping if i normalise self conversation, then others will feel less crazy about the voices in their own head and do it too.

I give them to my users (I'm a sysadmin) and they're very happy with them. It's the only series of docking stations I've ever come across that is reliable over years.

    • +2

I'd say the caldigit ones are even more reliable, comparing the TS3+ to WD16, WD19 and WD22 from Dell. The Caldigit in my experience has played nicer with Lenovos. If you're using Dells, having the power button is great, but I do find that the Dell docks are lacking in the number of ports

    • Had and still have a ton of troubles with WD19TB.
Random drop outs, USB disappearing (Dell driver hogs specific USB hub IDs, if you have snother hub, even VM one it will have conflicts when xou connect the hub After booting)

      • Also got a WD19TB and it has trouble detecting the Displayport monitors when the laptop (Windows 11) comes out of Sleep. The monitors are 2K and for some reason it periodically detects these monitors as "Wired Display" and have to disconnect and reconnect the video cables in the dock to trigger it to scan it right.

Was going to log a ticket with Dell, since the laptop is also Dell.

  • +1

No i rather pay 400 for the used scratched up missing power cable one on Facebook marketplace.

  • Pity it's only HDMI 2.0

  • +4

If you need a simple home docking station to remove cables I recommend the Dell HD22Q instead, much more compact, half the price, supports 2x 4k60, 90w charging.

    • Seconded - they're a fab unit.

  • +2

The wireless charging ones seem to be very cheap everywhere at the moment.
    https://www.mwave.com.au/product/dell-hd22q-usbc-dock-with-q…

    • I just got one of these for $119 delivered through Amazon Prime.
      Thanks!

      • This wireless charging dock is fantastic.
Plugged in the Dell 2 in 1 Inspiron (5406) and connected up the Display Port which picked up the dual display easily.
        One is a 3440 x 1440 and the other is a normal 1920 x 1080 screen.
Flawless extended desktop across the 2 monitors with the lid closed.
Couldn't do anything except mirror across 2 monitors and laptop screen with lid open.
        Brilliant!

  • +2

I have never understood why these are so expensive! If you want one but don't want to spend this much money, keep an eye on the refurb places (that sell ex-gov or ex-corporate computers), I up a Dell Thunderbolt dock from one for about $59 a while ago (it wasn't as highly-specced as this one, but essentially does all the same things).

    • Especially when you can buy a monitor with USB C dock built in for a similar price
      https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-24-usb-c-hub-monitor-p2…

      • +1

Bit of a difference between a USB-C dock and a Thunderbolt 4 dock

        • You can plug your thunderbolt devices into your laptops thunderbolt port if you need

        • -1

What's the difference, so the workers can stream more YouTube videos instead of focusing on actual work? No, they don't need 4k monitors either.

          • +1

@CptnObvious: Accessing high speed external storage, using external GPUs, multiple high-res monitors, higher wattage for charging (and the capability to upgrade to dual port)……….

Yeah most people don't need TB4, just pointing out that comparing the two is a little silly

            • @dav3: Yes, and you are very reasonable for pointing this out.

            • @dav3:

Accessing high speed external storage, using external GPUs, multiple high-res monitors, higher wattage for charging (and the capability to upgrade to dual port)……….

You can access high speed storage by plugging it into your laptops thunderbolt port

The monitor I linked to has DP out so you can daisy chain to connect multiple monitors

The monitor also does 90w PD which is close to the maximum this dock does.
If you need higher then you need the dock with 2x USB C dock connectors, which is not this dock

            • @dav3: Anyone actually getting high speed external storage transfer via Thunderbolt 4?

I'm getting around 250 MB/s (for large files).

    • You probably bought the TB16 which is utter garbage (even when it was new in 2016/2017) , these WD22TB4s are the current model

  • I highly recommend NOT getting a Dell dock, we've had at least 10 stop working over the past year - they weren't even a year old yet as we just rolled out Dell laptops to the business. From ports dying to the fan in the dock constantly revving.

We probably will look in to getting Lenovo docks.

    • Weird I own 2 and they have served me well for the past 2 or so years maybe I got a good batch.

    • What model did you get? We have a mix of these and the TB16s, had issues with the TB16 early on but firmware updates fixed them and no issues with WD22TB4s.

    • Can't share that feedback. We've got about 40 WD19S in the business. Anywhere between 4 years old to brand new. Not a single one had issues with Dell or HP laptops.

  • This one works fine for me after trying a few different DP hub.

No screen flash, weird colour issue etc. Which was somewhat common for sub $100 models.

  • +1

Great docks but a "high proportion" of the WD19's seen to have fan revving issues

    • We have about 120 on desks here and we only get the odd one fail like that (maybe 1 or 2 this year)

      • We have ~1300 WD19 and WD19S, would be lucky to fail 15 a year. 30% of fleet in hostile environment (Heat, very dirty, power blackouts/brownouts) some fan issues but they are rare.

We have ~300 WD22TB4 so far they seem quite good.

  • Crazy timing, I'm looking to buy a dock for new Dell XPS 15 (9530)

Anyone know of any other compatible docks? Google says only Dell docks will pass on the full 130W power needed.

edit: OP link shows $274 for me now, sold by iFrog
edit2: there are 2 different links. the one in description is RonaRigs, now at $269

  • i ve had the WD19TBS for about 2 years now, love it, home setup is essentially the same as work setup.
I tried a few docks, hubs and nothing really worked for my 2x 4k monitor setup.
I think i paid $360 as well, so i believe this is a bargain.

    • I bought the WD19S thinking that it would handle my dual monitor 4k set up. Alas it was not to be. Wasn't aware of the issue with bandwidth limitations of 3.2.

However since my work laptop doesn't have a thunderbolt port, I can't buy this to solve my issue.

  • Great timing as my old dock is about 3 years old and requires a reboot every other day

    $455.40 at Dell :D

    Purchased

    Thanks

  • looks like they changed it up to 269 now - https://i.imgur.com/ClOB038.png

    dunno why

  • +6

Thanks for putting this up OP, unfortunately, we've had to change our pricing as it was done incorrectly.

We'd love to honour this deal on Amazon but due to the merchant fees we pay to them, we can't.

However, we have put the dock up on our website at $264 delivered.

you just lifted the price again to 274?

      was 264

      then you changed to 269.

if you guys dont know the fees, maybe you shouldnt list the prices?

  • Can you use it on both Mac and laptop?

  • That seems so expensive for a dock. Wtf technology is in this thing?

    • Proprietary Thunderbolt tech

  • Great deal at $264! I bought one back in February for $329 from Rona and it's been perfect for my XPS 9510. As noted above it's the only dock that will pump out 130w for Dell XPSs that require more than 100w power. Rona was great to deal with too.

  • Price has been increased again from Rona, $274 now.

  • @RonaRigs I've looked at the display resolutions table from the manual for this dock, am I reading it right that it doesn't support external displays above 60Hz?

My ideal setup would be 4K@144Hz (G-Sync at a stretch, but seems unlikely) + 4K@60Hz. Do you have any docks that could do this? Does such a product even exist…?

    • +2

Hi TimeOrMoney, we've had several customers use the dock with 144hz monitors.

      At our test workstation in Camperdown, we are running 1x 60HZ 4k (U2723QE), 1x 60hz QQHD (U3423WE) & 1x120HZ QHD (U2724DE)

For some reason, Dell does not list any of this functionality on their manual/ support info.

  • Good deal. WD22TB4 is one of the best docks on the market atm. Price + Ronarig service also very good.

  • Does this support Windows and MacOS? Thanks

  • got a refurb on ebay - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/295887387530 shows $220 after discount applied

  • Pfft, you can get Caldigit TS4 for more than this!
