FYI - This has non-standard lugs so you can't change the bracelet out to something else. Not sure why they do this.

      • Agreed. I hate these designs.

        • +1

Integrated bracelets are more limited but usually a retro style. Tissot has done very well out of the prx, now almost every brand is copying that style (noting that Tissot wasn't the first).

          • @G-rig: The prx is something special. It made it really look like a jewellery

            • @maverickjohn: Yes nice wrist roll, like a bracelet.
Still sold mine, wasn't that comfortable and they need to make a 38mm no date, 40 bit big.

I just want to talk about watches. So I'll post a nice watch I found. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/266526919269

    • Also as a fan of Frederique constant, I want to link this.

    • Have you bought any lately?

      • None :( I bought a bike, a meat thermometer, the sailor pen and a few other stuff but no watch :(

I've played with this one at the Seiko House in Tokyo and it's very nice

          • @rosebank: Nice Ap homage design. Looks good. I wouldn't mind an astron actually.
Might sell my sumo and buy the astron

            • @maverickjohn: Yeah, do that. I have a few Sumos and they're nothing special

              • @rosebank: Agreed and I'm not a fan of their automatic movement anyway.
The 6r35 is still not great

                • +1

@maverickjohn: Especially in the high-end Seikos. I got a Save The Ocean Willard and 62MAS, after swearing not to spend over $800 on a 6R

                  • @rosebank: I bought the US special edition waffle green dial sumo for $1200. Not worth it.
Well we both learnt the hard way

I like everything about them, besides the movement

                      • @rosebank: What's the issue with the movement? Is it the accuracy?

                        • @illusion99: Lower End Seikos are notorious for poor accuracy from factory.

                          • @SpeedRunnerLink: But they use the 4R

                            • +1

@rosebank: Which is according to Seiko -35 to +45 seconds.

                              Thats still terrible.

Don't get me wrong i've owned many seikos and after using a proper Swiss movement you can't go back to these crappy Seiko ones.

                              Even Orient have better accuracy.

                              • -1

@SpeedRunnerLink: Wow , nobody remembers that these movements can be regulated , you spend all that money on a watch and want to bitch and moan about accuracy !
Fools and their money are easily parted …

                                • @Murkymerv: You sound like the 'just use your phone' brigade.

Most seikos are pretty affordable, I'd only be 'bitching and moaning' if i spent a lot more on a Swiss auto and it didn't keep great time (like the Oris Calibre 400 I got that was running +17 s/d when it should be -3/+5 s/d, That is more than warranted for a rrp $4800 watch. Returned that one. Also Oris Melbourne could only get my 733 to +10s/d (expected more for +$500 and 8-10 weeks, one reason i wouldn't buy another as they don't supply spares to 3rd party repairers/service).

I agree though it doesn't really matter as much as people make out, as long as it's within spec. Most people would rotate several watches, so you'd be setting it every few days anyway. Fair enough if it's worn every day, then worth paying a bit more for accuracy or get it regulated (as you said, generally not worth it on cheaper watches cracking the case back)

It's really luck of the draw, Swiss or not. These days I'm buying more Solar/Eco-Drives - most keep fantastic time.

                                  • @G-rig: I have a citizen NY series auto which runs fast but I back every three or four days to regulate. I also have a Casio solar 5600 solar which hasn't been used much . However your take on Casio , arguably I'd say they really offer amazing value when factoring cost versus features. Of course people like bling but remember , it's just jewellery to tell the time .

                                    • @Murkymerv: The function is there. Just up to the individual how dressy they want.

Goes for anything really.. spectacles, clothes, shoes cars, fashion over function and spending more than the minimum.

Yeah there are a heap of good offerings from Casio, citizen and & G-shock

                        • @illusion99: lol, I haven't tested them yet. I just don't like Seiko using the same movement in a $600 sumo and a $2K+ "high-end" model

                      • @rosebank: Yeah, if it's just design spend the least amount for design you like and look for a quartz alternative.
If you want reliability and like auto will have to spend more than what Seiko offers at 6r or 4r

                    • +1

@maverickjohn: Yeah I got Noosa sumo with extra strap for $740, no Seiko is worth its asking RRP ($1500 in this case). Can't even sell it for 700.

The special editions are nice of the Seikos and as long as you still get a good discount they aren't too over the top. The Save The Ocean series is nice. Can't imagine collecting more than one turtle or sumo anyway etc.

The 6R is a good work horse like the 4R, but I feel you are just paying for the longer power reserve not the better accuracy. Will probably have to keep mine.

Edit: it's also all the AliExpress shit making Seiko and citizen seem more expensive.

                  • @rosebank: Yeah those two are fairly expensive, guess paying for the case design and heritage for these models. The extra power reserve is good but we all know should be aiming at 1/2 RRP for Seikos, well overpriced.

  • Hi any recommendations for a watch in the 300 to 450 range for a quality dress watch for a male in the early to mid 50’s?

Nicholas Hacko in Sydney has some nice Astrons.
