Yes exactly which means you need to use a second hand to pop it open, which I would normally be using to turn on the tap. Just a minor thing but everything is form over function these days. It is not what works well, it is what looks good or what is a marketing gimmick can we use to sell a $20 kettle for $150.

Amazon description says Material: Metal - I assume it's partially plastic exterior but would assume internally metal where it matters.
I've gone into store and and looked at the bottom of every lid. Bizarrely most of them are metal on outside and plastic on the bottom side of the lid, including this one.
Interesting, I guess they do it to avoid rust developing on the bottom? I wonder which is worse for you to be honest.
I asked Sunbeam support question about this, will see what they respond with.
Ok so I bought it and can actually confirm that the inside bottom is metal.

Sunbeam blue kettle or toaster $68 + delivery at Retravision (but the picture is black?).
This seems to adhere to the current fashion of kettles that do NOT have a convenient pop up lid that is super easy to open using a button on the handle. Looks like the lid does not open wide to fill easy, and that will not pour quickly if you want to fill a saucepan or similar. Why a kettles and toasters regarded as fashion accessories these days?
