2001

Bendigo Bank Ready Credit Card

This is a repost from the original deal here:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/742184/

Remember OzBargain has their Wiki here for all cards similar to Bendigo Bank's Ready Credit Card.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/cards_with_no_overseas_tra…

This card could be good for people looking to go on overseas holidays over the xmas/ new year period and beyond.
It has some advantages other cards don't have like a lower minimum credit limit, joint accounts and travel insurance.

Joint Accounts Available

Bendigo Bank support joint credit card holders.
Joint account means the credit facility is opened under two peoples names. Not many banks offer this on credit cards.
https://www.finder.com.au/joint-account-credit-cards

BSB/Account Number linked to the card

Which enables you to send fast payments directly onto the card. No need to send money in via BPAY.
Not all banks support sending fast payments via BSB/Account No, so you will need to check with your respective bank.

Other features

  • Uses the Mastercard Exchange Rate (https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/personal/get-support/convert…)
  • 0% International Fee
  • $0 Yearly Fee
  • Joint accounts available (you apparently need to go into a branch to set this up)
  • $0 Additional Card Holder Fee
  • 90 Days Travel Insurance (inc cancellation cover)
  • Extended Warranty on purchases
  • Purchase Protection on purchases
  • $3000 minimum credit limit

Bendigo Bank is also considered an 'ethical bank' with no investments in fossil fuel's according to Market Force:
https://www.marketforces.org.au/info/compare-bank-table/

Enjoy.

Currently using this CC overseas. Love the ability able to quickly repay instantly with Osko. Handy to top up when you near the credit limit but need to make big purchase.

      • +1

Wow that's a game changer compared to how bloody slow 28Deg is to pay the card. Initiate a bank transfer to avoid their BPay fee on a Wednesday, and only on Sunday does the payment clear. It's ridiculous.

        • +1

Yes, I don't know any other banks in Australia can give your CC a normal account number to repay your credit card debt - and also via Osko. I would recommend this a keeper even if you are not travel overseas frequently. Let's hope they don't enshittification later like the rest.

  • Do these still take ages to process?

    • No, did it in May and took ~1 week

    • Applied last week. Five days from application to approval.

Bendigo uses outdated systems stay away love wasting time

  • +6

Lol 28 Degrees are in damage control mode. Cancelled last year in August and still getting offers of 2yrs no monthly fees etc.

    Thanks, but no thanks Latitude.

    • yeah i'm bailing

    • +2

Yeah they dont realise you cant just sht on customers and win them back by reluctantly wiping some of the sht off. They need something extra.

  • Is applying via branch better than online for this card?

    • Probably not because they have significant reduce the time to approve (1wk instead nearly 3 months like last year after the mass exodus from 28deg).

  • Applied online five days ago, got approved today. This card is back on the menu everyone!

  • +2

Super annoying that you have to go into a branch to set up a secondary card holder. Otherwise good card!

  • What sorts of promos do they offer? There is a promo code field

    • None that I know of at the moment.

  • past halfway filling out the form and it crashed. Lost the application. :/

Bendigo bank credit checks are like 300 years backwards. There servicing is crazy hard rember it will be available only for vanilla customers . Didnt approve my car loan 30k joint with wife with 300k income between us . Went to westpac approval and setlled in 24 hours while bendigo wasted our 6 days idiots and that too on one income alone.

No wonder they will forever stay behind all big banks

  • Ive tried applying online 3x times due to constant crashes. My last application says that I was approved then when I go to create a username and password it crashes..

  • Is there any advantage keeping both the latitude 28 degrees card as well as the Bendigo ready card?

    • There is disadvantage of paying the monthly fee.

If you have 2 cards that do the same thing, best to close off one so that you can get the credit limit back for something new/different etc.

    • +1

Only advantage to have the 28Deg is that you have the annual fee waived or you still have the grandfather price protection activated with your account. Also if you not interested to apply for any future loan/credit card.

      • I am traveling os now with Bendigo Bank credit card. Exchange rate is very close to XE rate. I can top up the credit limit via Osko instantly as I am very close to the limit.

  • I wonder how long Bendigo will keep this card as it is; no annual fee, no overseas transaction fees and included travel insurance?

If 70-80% of card holders have it as backup for holidays and only use it on 1-2 trips per year, the Bendigo bean counters will notice they are not making any money on interest and overdue fees. Then they'll probably come to the same conclusion as Bankwest, 28 degrees, and ING have done - something has to give. Either introduce a card fee or remove the travel insurance.

But until that happens, best enjoy it while it lasts.

    • +1

      Agree 100%

Its the last "no annual fee" credit card standing with complimentary travel insurance.
Maybe I should be using it as my primary card to justify its existance.
But Bendigo are different. they are not like the other banks

  • LOL, Lol, lol…. just went into my local branch. I was the only person there. I was told that due to such a high number of applications for the credit card they can't accept my application in the branch, nor can they make an appointment for me to come back either! Was told to just submit online.

Speedy approval through online application. Does anyone know to qualify for the travel insurance, do you need to book one return flight?

I can't get a return on the same airline, so i need to make two separate transactions. Trying to figure out I would still meet conditions having to purchase one way return.

    • Have a read of the insurance policy document. Qualifying involves paying for $500 of the trip expenses.

      • +2

Thanks, i did check the PDS. I read some insurers won't cover if you purchase separate flights, and/or need to spend on a return flight.

Called Allianz and just need to spend $500 on prepaid travel expenses. Not complicated at all.

        • +1

          Just like the PDS says.

        • The PDS clearly says you need a return ticket. Allianz may have given you the wrong information. People have had complimentary travel insurance claims denied for this reason before

          • @pennypacker42069: My question was if I needed to use the Bendigo Bank CC to buy a return ticket. However I clarified with Allianz $500 could be spent on trip expenses, not necessarily the flights.

Really just wanted to check I could still purchase flights separately with a different credit card. It would be misleading conduct if the insurance provider isn't giving you the right information about the policy.

Current lead time is two business days. There is no backlog currently.

    • What docs did they ask in the application

      • +2

I just provided them what they ask for from this link - https://www.bendigobank.com.au/personal/credit-cards/applica…

        I gave them

        • 4 recent payslips
        • Income statements from MyGov
        • SMSF/super statements (optional)
        • 28 Degrees CC closure letter
        • certified copies of ID (optional)

I am already an Up Customer, and have a home loan with them too, so they probably have those records on hand since they are the same company.

When I uploaded everything, the person responded the next day quoting the two day lead time for assessment. They haven't gotten back to me asking for any additional documents at this stage. I imagine they would ask for bank statements too.

      • +3

My credit card has now been approved. That was quick, and no further documents requested beyond the ones I provided above.

  • Just wondering with this card, when paying for things overseas. Does it work similar to ING? In regards to Bendigo charging an amount including a 3% international transaction fee, then Bendigo refunds the international transaction fee? Thank you.

    • There is no international transaction fee. It doesn't even come up as a transaction line.

    • I assume you compared with the ING debit card?

To get the refund FX fee from ING, you must meet the eligibility in the previous month. That's why you have 2 transactions for each purchase overseas. One is the full amount charged with FX fee included and one a refund of the fx fee immediately. If you didn't meet the eligibility, they will charge you full amount, ie no fee refunded.

Bendigo have no such silly requirements. Just a plain simple CC with no fx fee. One purchase, one transaction.

      • Yep. Chalk and cheese

        ING is the exception.
        Not Bendigo bank

    • +1

      Just contact your local branch
They will give you the forms to complete. Otherwise they will email the forms to you
Fill them in and taken them to the branch (you cant email them for security reasons)
The local loans officer will go over your application and might ask for additional supporting documents
Really depends on your sources of income.

Just remember that each Bendigo Branch is a stand alone franchise.
There is no central loans processing office.

Applying it via local branch this way, does my credit profile get hit?
