Tick Insurance are offering 15% off new policies due to recently being awarded as Canstar 2022 Award Winner for Outstanding Value.

Their Standard and Top Cover policies do cover COVID-19 and seem to have higher general inclusion values than CoverMore or World2Cover, albeit with higher $200 default excess.

  • Can't get free one from credit card?

    • Depends on your needs. With travel insurance you genuinely do need to read the PDS because they usually vary a lot between different providers.

Common areas that CC travel insurance can lack in are cover for preexisting conditions, limited length of time your covered for, lack of coverage for airline fault delays/cancellations, etc.

Not that travel insurance you pay for covers everything either, again you really have to read the PDS to see what's covered and whether it suits your needs either way.

      • generally they seem to still cover the big ticket items like hospital bills so im good with that. regarding preexisting conditions, nobody will cover people at high risk, like elderly travelling overseas

        • If your primary concern is just having medical coverage for accidents / new conditions that come up overseas then yeah credit card travel insurance should usually be fine.

Preexisting medical conditions can be complicated though, some travel insurance define a preexisting medical condition as anything you have seen a doctor about in the last X years, so you could get caught out even if its not something you would think is a preexisting medical condition. Eg you saw a doctor about back pain once 3 years ago, no issues since then, but then all of a sudden you have an issue with your back when traveling and you might be in for a tough time when claiming.

Also, you can get coverage for a lot of preexisting conditions from most "paid for" travel insurance, even some quite high-risk stuff, you just pay more.

Careful with tick, they won't cover any medical expenses if you have been drinking

    • +2

      Drinking or drunk?

Being drunk is a very common exclusion for travel insurance (as well as car insurance).

    • +2

The exclusion wording says "Any claim arising directly from you, your partner, relative or your travelling companion consuming alcohol."

This assumes that your medical expenses were incurred directly because you consumed alcohol. In some cases that might be harder to draw a relationship than others.

  • Noticed Unlike Freely, there's no additional "special-excess" for COVID-19 related claims so I will call up and exercise my cooling off period rights and switch to this instead

  • +2

    No cruise cover.

  • when does this expire?

  • thanks OP

Thanks OP. Last time I made a claim with tick, it was fast and smooth. Just brought another policy with them again for my upcoming trip with this code.

  • Thanks OP, just purchased

  • Thanks, OP. The code still works.
