    -higher $200 default excess-> Self-explanatory.

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for Travel Insurance? I don't have a credit card that has it included.

I've looked at Covermore but they are about double the price of other companies so still exploring other options.

im also currently doing my research and scti seem good for the price. quite comprehensive. cashback offers seem to pop up with them quite frequently too

      • any discount codes for SCTI ?

        • +1

          not that i know of

        • Use cashback through cashrewards maybe?

    • -2

i got a platinum credit card no annual fee with bankwest that comes with insurance

In my experience with travel insurance, opting for the lowest-priced option often translates to receiving comparable service when it comes time to file a claim. However, it's worth noting that even the major insurance providers may not always offer straightforward processes. To gauge their reliability, consult unbiased online reviews beyond their influence. Ideally, you won't have to use your insurance, but in 2023, pricing for such services has risen in tandem with other lifestyle expenses.

From personal experience I have used Covermore (no claim made), NIB (no claim made), Qantas (lost baggage claim made - overall very easy to deal with) and lastly CGU (no claim made).

      Good luck

Don’t touch Covermore with a ten foot pole. Made a claim with them for a lost bag and they pulled some line from the PDS “lost items cover exclude items left in a public space” … like where am I meant to lose it then? Inside ?? Wish I never went with them

    • Auspost is competitive, underwritten by covermore I think but better value

  • Anyone with claims experience with these guys?

Similar price and coverage to mid-tier plans from other providers, but also offering COVID coverage (same as some, slightly less than others) at that price whereas other seem to hold that back for premium tiers.

    • I always check the PDS regarding luggage

What you are not covered for applicable to Sections E1-E5
      * unaccompanied luggage

That means you are not covered if the airline loses your luggage. You would have to claim directly with the airline.

      • That seems weird, but fortunately we are planning on travelling carry on only.

        • Oh its very common. My bro lost his luggage earlier this year and it was not covered in his insurance either.

      • Interesting from their faq

Baggage and valuables can become lost, stolen or damaged during your travels. We’ll cover the cost of repairing or replacing these items if you experience an incident, up to the amount listed in your policy cover. Remember that items like laptops, phones, tablets, cameras and video cameras will all have ‘sub-limits’ – or limits of their own. You’ll also need to purchase Standard or Top policies to get cover for these specific items.

        Also in the PDS:
You must get written confirmation of the length of the delay from the appropriate airline or transport company and you must keep all receipts for the essential items you buy. If your baggage is permanently lost we will deduct any payment we make for delayed baggage from your overall claim for baggage.

        • Depends what the definition of unaccompanied baggage is. If it’s supposed yo be on the same flight as you then perhaps that counts as accompanied baggage?

      • I highly doubt that. It’s just the term for baggage you send ahead of time not with you so as to avoid excess baggage charges.

        unaccompanied baggage
Baggage which is transported as cargo and may or may not be carried on the same aircraft with the person to whom it belongs (ICAO).

    • Made a claim last year as I got Covid and was stuck overseas for an extra week. Was pretty straight forward and easy to deal with. Just make sure you read the T&Cs and know what's covered.

  • Anyone had experience with travel insurance that includes competition or team sport?

This and most of the major ones I normally use or check all have exclusions regarding completion or team sports… They specify if getting a trophy or similar exclusion, it's excluded for coverage. Which means all sorts basically haha

So anyone know a good competition for 🏀 cover?

    • I use World2Cover and all my travel is to hockey tournaments. I've had gear broken enroute and they covered the claim. It doesn't cover you while participating in the sport if it is professional, but that is where your sports insurance would kick in (though I know they're usually fairly useless).

  • Bought one, hopefully I never need to use it.

  • This or covermore? Covermore is nearly twice as expensive for my 26 day Asia trip for wife and I plus bub. Has anyone had experience making a claim with tick or covermore?

    • +1

A person who can answer your question would be pretty unlucky on travels. Has been with both policies and had to claim on each occasion lol

    • I used covermore, hidden things in the PDS made then deny my claim. “Lost items cover excludes Items left in a public place”
I took it further with AFCA, but I shouldn’t have needed to. Painful process dealing with Covermore

      • +2

How else do you lose things for it to be covered? In a private place only?

        • This was my exact argument to them when I disputed it.

    • From memory made a claim with tick tock a few years ago when flight delays due to typhoons meant we needed to book extra nights accommodation and only an exp place was available, claim was very simple

  • I just purchased a policy through scti last week, however, ive since found out they dont cover the inca trail due to hiking in a high altitude. Does anybody know what insurance policies do cover the inca trail hiking?

    • +1

World Nomads. ANZ Credit Card insurance.

      • Thank you. I checked out world nomads and they seem quite expensive.
Unfortunately, i cant get access to an anz credit card. My partner has the nab signature credit card.. but we cant seem to gind anything saying hiking at high altitudes is covered. I know complimentary credit card insurance is usually a bit slim however.
Do you or anybody else know of other options or if the nab signature credit card covers it for sure?

      • Was just about to buy this then read your comment and found out my ANZ Rewards Black card has complimentary 6 months cover! Thank you.

        • +1

          it's good coverage too!

  • No cover for cruising by the looks of it.

  • Just a review that this is the rebadged mob of "Insure n go" and they had strict requirements on what could/couldn't be claimed for damaged/lost/stolen equipment. At the time I was making claim against camera equipment and I had to show the original purchase receipt. It didn't matter that I had photos of all the gear, serial numbers etc, as I had bought the items second hand, they refused to cover me.

    Tread carefully with this mob.

    • I had this same issue with 1Cover years ago. I suspect most insurers require receipts to prove purchase and don't accept buying second hand. Would like to hear from someone who managed otherwise and who they were insured with.

      • I wouldn't have a problem with this, if the process to establish value and ownership were more transparent in the PDS. If it's wishy washy stuff like "its up to us to determine on reasonableness" then I'd be staying far far away.

On other hand when I have had to claim on home insurance and I had a bike stolen, they bent over to check if my listed accessories had also been taken (they hadn't, they were on another bike), but there's a big difference between the two experiences, that's for sure

can anyone recommend a good travel insurance for cruising ?

  • +1

I've used Tick a few times in recent years for Travel Insurance to a remote destination and had one claim with no issues.Always make sure that your policy includes "Emergency Medical Evacuation" and check out who the Underwriter is.In this case it's Mitsui Sumitomo and the company is owned by Europ Assistance, with a global presence in more than 200 countries.I have no affiliation with them.

    • My personal thoughts, as someone who's career is Insurance, is - I only trust the Tokio Marine and Fire, and Chubb as the Underwriter.

Do also deal with Zurich as the Underwriter and they're not bad.

      • Who are the main insurers who use those companies as underwriters?

        • Tokio Marine and Fire - World2Cover
          Chubb - Chubb
Zurich - Medibank (not sure how much you'd trust them), Covermore

Tokio Marine and Chubb usually cover COVID, and deals with extreme sports and cruise cover well (had to check recently)

          My suggestion is to;
          * look at; cancellation and curtailment (Covermore will burn you badly on that), as well as the lost property sublimits.
          * stay away from the "free" credit card travel insurances (never heard of anything good out of their offerings)

          • @Carmen Sandiego: keep in mind that world2cover only cover COVID under a single trip policy, there is no coverage for COVID-19 on the annual multi trip.

That said, I've happily used them for my annual cover for many years pre and post covid-19.

  • From the quick reading I did, NAB and ANZ seem to give pretty solid travel insurances that are comparable with dedicated ones (with not so bad eligibility criteria). Bankwest has got cover with no such criteria but it's pretty limited (and cost to upgrade is as expensive as a dedicated cover hence definitely not recommended). Same story for Commonwealth bank cover as well. AMEX platinum card has got a good cover but eligibility criteria is ridiculous so not worth trying. My conclusion is, unless you have ANZ or NAB card, better to get a dedicated cover..

  • thoughts anyone?

  • I think a lot of people buy insurance and have a fair amount of expectations from it, which will lead to disappointment. I buy insurance with very limited expectations and for me, my insurance is mostly for the medical emergencies abroad, like in case you fall ill and need hospitalisation, or knock on wood, dying and need to repatriate my remains, etc. In other words, mostly medical or health related. The ones that will really put a ding on your financial situation or life plans.

I'm not too concerned about the more common issues like lost bags, or delayed flights, which by right, should be taken up with the flight companies. Most insurance companies to do not cover faults cause by the flight companies operations (e.g., flight delay cause by fault in planes, etc.)

  • Will there be a similar or even better promo code that will be available?

  • Any one cover missing flights as well?
