Qantas A330s average age is 16.6 years, some are 20 and it shows.

A few are former Jetstar with the IFE system replaced with iPads, which don't even have an inflight map. The most uncomfortable long haul and worst inflight service I've been on ever.

EDIT: Asiana or Korean have newer fleets and larger economy seat pitch.

I believe they got refurb'd when they went from JQ to QF (some of them even did QF > JQ > QF). The lack of IFE is only on some A330-200s "domestic" fleet. QF has been using them on international routes post-COVID due to international fleet retirements during COVID and AJ's lack of fleet replacement orders.

The only pro of the domestic fleet is that there's wifi on them over mainland Australia (basically anywhere with SkyMuster reception), and leather seats in Business instead of fabric (but this is personal preference).

      • the IFE replaced by ipads are right now significantly better entertainment if you're overflying Australia (they tend to plonk it doing MEL <> SIN which gives the most time for coverage). 6 hours of streaming wifi as well as the normal IFE (albeit in ipad form) is probably better than most other options.

Flew back from Asia recently in economy on Qantas.
The meal had raw potato wedges and the breakfast was a 1/2 size muffin that stuck to the paper lining. The flight attendant addressed customers as pal or bud. The planes are very old. It’s not the premium product they make it out to be.

  • Freezing in Feb and March. Low price for worst travel period. Typical. Only for unwary suckers.

    • what about for skiing?
