Only 1 drive in the NVR? What if it fails? Surely 2x in some sort of raid would be better?

    • +1

I'd say this is fine for home

    • Can add SD cards to the camera to record to SD card and NVR hard drive as a backup

    • I have the same nvr. Need a minor mod to fit 2 x 6tb skyhawk.

      • What was the mod please?

        • replace the existing power cable with power splitter cable and replace the eSATA cable with SATA cable. As the size of the nvr wont be able to fit 2 hdd so the power and SATA cable are routed out of the nvr and sit on top/next to the nvr.

    • Roll your own NVR? (Frigate, Blue Iris, Shinobi, etc)

      • Was thinking about it but then need to get a NAS (or SAN) or roll my own NAS first.

    • There's no provision for RAID, but you can add an extra drive via eSATA.

Generally NVR data is not considered sufficiently important to back up so thoroughly. You usually only keep the data for a week or two before it's over-written with new footage anyway.

    • Hard drive failure means you lose the footage on the drive. This is only a problem if there was something you needed. Normally if you need something, you go get it immediately. After a few days/weeks it gets overwritten. If you were to add a second drive, the extra storage would mean that you get longer record time, which also means it gets overwritten less frequently and hence this increases the mean time to failure of the HDD.

  • Nice I've just been looking into cameras. But can these be mounted outside, powered by solar and a wireless connection?

    • The wireless/powered by solar ones I have were okay when we had an immediate need for them, but they don't do continuous recording which has meant we missed some important events. Have you seen wireless and solar powered ones which record 24/7?

    • They have an IP65 rating and are therefore suitable for outdoor use. However, they cannot be powered by solar and they do not support a wireless connection.

These cameras must be connected to the network by ethernet cables, and they are powered over the same cables using PoE protocol. This method is much more reliable and secure than wireless and solar, and it allows 24/7 surveillance…..but it does require installing cabling to each camera location.

Reolink do make solar-powered and wireless cameras; have a look at the Argus line. Or look at Eufy's products for good quality wireless cameras with local storage.

  • Yes, no and no

  • Wow heck of a deal. I remember someone saying you can't use these bundle cams like regular standalone ones without the NVR - was that right for this case?

    • You can plug these into other devices that support them. They might even have sd cards.

    • I've got a bundle like this, can't access these bundle cameras remotley without the NVR through the reolink app. The cameras bought separatley you can access remotley without an NVR.
Not sure if there's any other differences.

      • Hmm yeah ok. That's a bizarre and frustrating limitation. Firmware lock maybe? I can understand not having direct access when being used by NVR, but there's no good reason it shouldn't be able to work like any standalone camera without the NVR.

      • I'm pretty sure you're talking about the bundle that includes D800 cameras, not the 820a cameras in this bundle.

I don't think you can buy the D800 cameras as a standalone product; only in an NVR bundle….which makes sense.

      • If you buy them as a bundle the cameras connect them to the NVR POE switchports and sit on a own separate IP range behind the NVR. I'm not sure if there's a bridge from those NVR ports to the LAN port if you did change the the IP range, but if you connected them to your LAN directly why wouldn't they be accessible like standalone purchased cameras?

        • @howcan I'm pretty sure the D800 cameras are intentionally gimped with different firmware to prevent direct IP access and can only be used with a Reolink NVR. They stopped doing this quite a while ago, and all the current models now allow universal compatibility; but apparently still had some stock to sell because I've seen the D800 camera bundles offered at least once in the past 12 months.

Just to be clear, the cameras in this kit are the 820A model that DOES work independently.

          • @klaw81: Good to know, thanks.

          • @klaw81: Hmm if you go to specs on this bundle, it says "The cameras of the kit cannot work without the NVR. (Bundle excluded)"

          • @klaw81: Nah not taking about the 800s, I own a kit which came with the 820s.

The 820s in the kit don't have a UID. You need a UID to individually access the cameras remotely via the reolink app.
Dunno if you can set up some form of Port forwarding for remote access without uid.

For just viewing the camera feed remotely you can do this via the nvr which has a uid.

What I can't do remotely is access the sd card footage saved on the cameras. This can only be done locally via ip address.

Also, for those unaware to use the sd card slot you can't have the cameras connected directly to the nvr, have to have them separately via a poe switch on the same network. You can still access the cameras on a separate poe switch via the nvr remotely.

@60beetle60: @60beetle60 I have one of this exact bundle at home at the moment (bought a kit for family) and while testing, the 820A cameras plugged in and became available on my Reolink app immediately, while only plugged into a standard PoE switch.

  • For anyone interested i got the same NVR and upgraded the hdd to a 12tb exos. Loads playback much quicker than the preinstalled seagate skyhawk lite.
12tb gets me 6 weeks footage from 4x 800d 4k cameras recording at 20fps (believe the 820d in this post are 25fps)

Not a great deal. It has been at least $50 less in the recent past.

I've bought at least 3 of these kits and paid considerably less than this each time. The RRP in the title is total BS, it's never this price. The normal price for this around $700, and a good bargain is ~$600.

Having said that, I really like this product and would recommend it at a better price.

    • The kit overall is pretty good, the only downside I've found is the RLC-820's have pretty disgraceful night performance, the ghosting is so bad that someone walking 8 metres away at the top of my driveway is virtually invisible (and that's even with a streetlight across the street), but it seems this is pretty common for a lot of Reolink cameras. I've found it much worse than any reviews I watched, and that's with the latest firmware, trying to tweak settings etc. The deal description is wrong too, the 820A's don't have two way audio (microphone only).

      • Reolinks cameras night footage has always been their Achilles heel.

OP, Any good deal for Reolink 4G LTE battery Go Plus PT with solar?

    • Apologies, but there is currently no coupon code available for this model.

      • -1

        Ok, thanks anyway.

Reolink 4G LTE battery Go Plus PT with solar=> Does it record to SD card without sim card in it? (for sure after the first time set up and not for live view but to view SD record later on laptop).

  • These still don't play nice with home assist hey?

    • On the contrary, they work quite well with Home Assistant. I have quite a few, and the Reolink integration is pretty feature rich.
