30c should be the regular price smh

    • -3

Yes, this should be free if you bring your own 30c chock topping ;)

    • -4

That's so 10 years ago - the price now is still amazing for what you get.

      • +11

        What, $1.10?

        • -3

Yes - have you seen how much soft serve cones cost at other places? Sure, their cones may be bigger, but their price is usually at least 5 times as much.

      • +5

My only concern is that the quality was so much better 10 years ago. You could walk around outside for 15 minutes with barely any melting… nowadays you are lucky to make it to the car without a pool of weird milkshake in its place.

        • +5

          That's not maccas fault - that's global warming :)

      • +7

I was aware of this amazing "ice cream" in early 2008, ¢30.
Late 2009, when I returned to Aus, still ¢30.
        Late 2010, ¢50.
        2016, still ¢50.
        Then ¢60, 70, 75, 80, 85, and a high jump tp $1.10 :-(

        • That is how greedy faceless coorporations work.

Such you in then raise the price.

  • +31

    ozbargain vs school kids gl

    • +14

Should be marked as a competition!

    • +7

Dont forget the pensioners as well.

  • +111

Coincidentally, all the machines are scheduled to break down tomorrow. ;)

  • +3

    Chocolate Soft Serve

Their chocolate soft serve didn't like chocolate at all, just vanilla + chocolate colour.

    • +8

The machine mustn't have mixed it properly - definitely tastes chocolatey when I've had it

      • +3

I think may because I compared it with the chococate soft serve I tried at Hong Kong McDonald, so much better.

      • +1

That might explain why it was so bad when I had it recently. The first time I had this was a couple of years ago when they were trialling it in some stores, it tasted like chocolate custard and had a darker colour compared to when I had it the other day.

  • +41

“Hi can I please get a 30c choc ice-“

“Sorry our ice cream machine is not working right now 😃”

  • +3

Thanks Bot, it's been a while since I've had a cone or two.

  • +4

please have a mercy to mcdonald employee

    • +5

Don't worry – if the machine is actually working, they will be handing them out 1cm filled

      • +3

Whenever I get them for the kids they give me two vastly different sized ice creams like they want to start WW3. I have to send them back with the smaller one to make it the same size.

        • Hahahahaha

  • +4

I thought 30c was the standard price?

    • +3

      Back in the 90s maybe…

      • +9

even back to 2010-2013ish, it was 30 cents I vaguely remember.
maybe that was an promotion, but it lasted for at least 2 years
and not only in McDonald', it was also the same price in KFC and Hungry jacks

        https://www.buzzfeed.com/markdistefano/soft-serve-rip-off

        news from 2014…

      • I remember it was still 40c-ish when Kevin Rudd was PM.

    • +2

They were 70c. Until the latest round of gouging.

      • 80c

        • McDs have had store specific pricing for a long time my friend.

          • @ASR-Briggs: I know… didn't think any stores would've still had them at 70c. I'd say vast majority would've been 80c though.

            • @MiscOzB: Been about a year I wanna say. But I vividly remember it, because I could get the +flake version for only 20c extra, and it was 90c. Good effing times.

              • @ASR-Briggs: Ah yeah, just been creeping up gradually over the years, apparently they were still only 60c back in 2019, so almost doubled in just a few years.

                • @MiscOzB: Hence my comment about gouging, since McDs and KFC pricing has outstripped inflation massively in the last year.

                  • +1

                    @ASR-Briggs: I'm 2019 the family deal (2 big burgers + 2 small burgers + small chips + small drinks) was $20.
                    Now it's not available anymore.
The cheapest family deal for 4 is $38

                    • @Averell: Oh shiiiit I remember that on the menu. Didn't use it enough tbh. But yes, the increase in cost is criminal.

    • It's now $1.10.

      • Whoa! where have I been? I think I stopped getting soft serves when their machine was constantly out of order

      • $1.15 central west NSW

    • +3

$1.15 at my local :-( I was shocked!

      • +2

Still $0.8 at my local HJ.

        • and tastes better than Macca's, too.

    • They even referred to it as a 30c cone.

That was very clever marketing right there

    • +3

Commenters rightfully point out it's not McDonald's because they don't serve strawberry ice cream. Also, the machines often being out of action is usually because they are actually being cleaned. Lol

  • +2

Have checked in 3 different stores in Melbourne so far. Not available.

    • +2

What's it say above the title in blue?

      • +2

the discount is tomorrow. But the item was released to the menu a while back. Not talking about the discount.

        • -2

put chocolate syrup, it will be chocolate

      • +3

I think not all McDonald have chocolate soft serve.

    • There's a big blue banner that says "Tomorrow" above the title 🥸

      • +2

the item was released to the menu a while back. Not talking about the discount. Talking about actual availability of the item.

        • +3

Ah yeah, fair enough. It can definitely be hit and miss.

      • +4

It says "LATER TODAY" for me, because Queenslanders are smart enough not to mess with when the Sun comes up.

    • +1

It is only at stores with more than one soft serve machine. There was formerly a list on the Maccas website, now archived here.

  • +2

Deal aside. I really like this chocolate soft serve, I paid 80c at one Maccas and another wanted 1.10 and I'm like… Eff me.

  • +2

Ugh I hate you OP, I feel like it right now

  • +3

    💩

  • +4

For months the soft serve cones had been $1 with a flake in them. Now for the summer savers range they increased the price to $1.50 and had the audacity to adverstise them as onsale at the higher price. Now we have 1 day @ 30 cents when as other posters have said you can pretty much guarantee the ice cream machine will break down for the majority of the day.

  • +15

    boycott Maccas

    • +4

exist in 2018 and only 1 comment "Boycott maccas" LOL

      • +7

        Boycott Maccas.

      • -1

He's (assumption) only 5? And can spell and use boycott correctly? Gettin' a plus from me. Uni when he's 10 I hope

    • -2

Thanks more soft serve for the rest of us.

  • hodl?

    • +6

      Nah mate it will melt

  • +3

The beef I have with McDs (and HJs) is that you never know how much ice cream you will get. Some do a solid 4-5 swirls. Others do a 1 swirl and that's it.

    • +1

Or when they leave that massive gap in the middle! Gah!

    • +3

Hopefully there is no ice-cream in their beef that would be horrible.

    • +1

Albion Macca's overload the cone with 5-6 swirls, it's glorious.

      • The way it should be.

  • +3

Just a FYI. It's not ice cream. It's like a chocolate ice. Tastes like a frappe. Very disappointed with this

    • +4

No sure what is going on with your local - our choc cones are pretty much as written on the box - vanilla texture but chocolate flavoured. Delicious

      • I'll try it again then

    • I had a vanilla soft serve that tasted like this – I think the machine settings/mixture was wrong. When I went back a few weeks later, it tasted normally.

  • Would like one if the machine is working, for the last few days my local has only had vanilla, have yet to try chocolate

  • Will this be a MyMaccas app only deal? Or limited to one per customer?

  • Not just diary but your arteries ;)

  • Oh man, I remember this used to be normal price for Macca soft serve back in 2008-2009. Me and my mates usually took train to Liverpool Westfield just to get 1 after school and come back home.

  • Thanks OP. My dessert tmr nite :)

  • This is the price they were when originally released right? It's what I remember when I was young anyway, 30c cones being a big thing.

  • +3

    Over a hundred upvotes.

I wouldn't even leave for a free one.

I'm all for getting as much value as you can. Hell, I added a sauce I didn't want last night to the sushi I got with some of those 25 buck vouchers just to use the credit, but this is next level silly. Not the deal being posted, bc it's still a deal and all, but silly how many seem to care

    • +2

I think it's the nostalgia of the price point too

  • +4

I love soft serves but have stopped buying after the price went up to $1.15. Cheaper to buy half price ice cream from super market now. Maccas workers don’t follow the standard and sometime you get one with 2 small swirls which pissed me off.

    • +1

I've seen people go back and ask them to fill it more haha

      • +1

I wanted to do it countless of times LOL

    • I stopped buying because the taste was better pre-COVID and they used to actually give you what the picture looked like on the menu.

  • -7

With the topping of fresh blood strawberry extracted from young kids.

    • +1

      Now you're on a list.

    • +1

Does the chocolate soft serve cone come with strawberry topping?

Does the strawberry topping contain any strawberry? I thought it's just sugar and artificial flavours

  • +1

Following to see which Maccas actually have this available tomorrow (guessing not many!)

  • +2

Back to what they're actually worth
