Buy real dedicated WIFI kit, dont buy these

    • +1

What’s a real dedicated wifi kit???

      • I think he means Access Points?

  • +3

I have these, they are great. Solid and great app

  • TP link cheaper, why bother with this.

    • +1

TP link is cheaper for a reason! My neighbour is using TP Link and it's a nightmare - cannot change bandwidth on WiFi - cannot manually select WiFi channels - basic stuff that even an entry-level router should provide.

      • My wifi 6E mesh network which cost significantly less than this has been flawless

I came from overpriced Netgear Orbi hardware before that which had issues with things dropping off the wifi

        • What did you go with? I have netgear orbi tri band wifi 5 at the moment and want to upgrade to a wifi 6e mesh. Mainly hoping for better node switching as I feel devices don't move between the orbi nodes well enough. But also would like better bandwidth as I have gigabit now. Don't want to spend insane money though like the new orbi are.

          • @dwhes: I was on a RBK50 setup 1xrouter and 2x sats, was slow and things like my smartmeter/solarpower inverter hardly ever worked.

Moved to Deco XE75 WiFi 6E 3x units for $503 from GG commercial and now all of a sudden the smartmeter/solarpower is working perfectly and its much faster overall.

            • @noise36: That's exactly the one I was considering! and that's exactly the setup I currently have now. What max speed do you get on wifi now? do you have gigabit? and do you find devices roam much better?

              • +1

@dwhes: I can max out my 250mbit internet, no access to 1GBPS internet yet, hopefully soon.

Regarding roaming no idea but everything just works so far been a really good experience with speed and coverage.

                • @noise36: cheers. think I will go the deco.

                  • @dwhes: The deco is solid BUT -
You cannot separate the 2.4 ghz and 5ghz networks (so all your devices cannot be told which network to live on) - you have only one network plus can create an "iot" network and a "guest" network. (items on these networks cannot reach the main network).

The security software is $100 a year subscription, which soon adds up.

The ASUS is a bit more flexible, and the trend micro security and parental controls are all baked in.

                    • @DisasterArea: I don’t need to separate the bands so that’s all good. Also don’t need the security software. Looking at reviews the deco for the price will be exactly what we need. Will see how it goes.

@dwhes: You'll get rock solid fast wifi that is easy to manage, the only other concern being when they turn off their back end servers you will lose the ability to manage them.. and as they are "remotely managed", I would not consider them secure by any means. Good for a home network, but I wouldn't use them if say you worked for the governmnent.

                        • @DisasterArea: I’ve been absolutely blown away by the XE45s. I get 930Mbps down and 47 up over wifi now! Entire house is blanketed in coverage, even the furthers I can get from a node in my 2 story house, and the opposite end of where the router is actually connected, I still manage 400Mbps down. Switching between nodes is excellent. A million times better than my previous Orbi setup. For $500 I think this set is a no brainer for anyone with a relatively standard home network.

Asus has more customizable settings and no subscription fees.

  • Awesome! I've been waiting on a deal on this. Thank you.

  • And purchased.
Hope these last as long as my las one (RT-AC5300), loved that router.
It died on a Saturday morning, and I placed it under our tree.

    • Bought it, installed it, then found it cheaper here : https://www.tradeinn.com/techinn/en/asus-zenwifi-xt8-2-units…

I am having such a wrestle setting this up. I configured the newtworks, they "self meshed" all looked good and them bam, cannot maintain a connection to teh wifi, just keeps cycling off and on and telling me the password is wrong (when it's not).

My old one did this until I disabled all beamforming… which is something you need to have on for AX to work..

      • OK, not like me but I spent 6 hours trying to make these bastards work last night, and after many factory reboots, firmware upgrades, complete reconfigurations, I've had to give up and they've gone back.

the main problem seemed to be the "node" extender unit, could not give out DHCP addresses to directly patched devices (despite 1gb wired backhaul) .. worked with the PC but not with xbox nor any wireless device … they would not associate with the node unit.

I expected more and will wait on the ET12's coming down or the AX16000 - or something with wifi 7
        Returned/Refunded

      • Tradeinn stock comes from overseas so no local warranty yea?

  • -1

Bought one shipped from Germany with cheaper price near 600

    • European versions have lower WiFi transmission power and less channels due to local compliance.
Honestly you’ll be better off spending a bit more and buy locally.

      • Wish I know it earlier :(

  • I have this and can vouch for this. Has been amazing and have wifi coverage all around the house of 650 sq m.

  • Have one of these for a few months now and can highly recommend it, wifi coverage reaches to my front gate which is 100m.
Wifi never drops out, hasn’t let me down.

  • Can i pair this with an rt-ax86u as the main router?

  • I have 4 of these now, absolutely incredible.
Great coverage around the house using both 5g wireless backhaul and ethernet backhaul.
Better than Ethernet over Power in my experience.

Only downside, I updated them once to a new firmware and they kept power cycling so I rolled back an update and no issues.

Apparently you can also pair these with the XT12 so if you want more ports you can mix and match allegedly
