  • Because I'm naive with computer tech. is a cooling pad that necessary for your laptop?

    • No. It is recommended not to use them on your lap in the first place, however if you do regularly, and it's gets uncomfortably hot you may use one of these.

But it's unncessesary for general desk use IMO.

      • I use a cooler on the desktop as well, its always a good idea to keep the laptop as cool as possible.

    • Most new laptops have good enough ventilation and cooling to take care of itself. Unless it's a high end gaming laptop, in which case some overheat due to poor chassis or fan design. Like the old HP series.

If your laptop overheats even on idle loads, it would be better to disassemble and check it for dust trapped inside the heatsink. Using a cooling pad would only be a band-aid solution and won't actually solve the overheating issue.

if you use your laptop on the bed, carpet, couch or anywhere that is soft you should use a cooling pad because it ensures the soft fabric does not block the ventilation holes on the bottom and sides of your laptop.

      • This.

Laptops should never be placed on soft surfaces like carpet, a couch, a bed sheet/quilt and especially not on a lap. They are now called Notebooks partly to avoid people using them on their laps.

Use a cooling pad, or a dinner tray.

        • read all. Thanks guys

  • You can order online and pick it up at your nearest store . that way you don't pay for shipping.

  • Seems like a good deal, I prefer larger fan slower RPM though.

  • Cheers for the post, picking up a purple one tomorrow.

  • I picked up one for my netbook a few weeks ago. It is well made and good value. My only criticism is that it lacks an on/off switch.
