      honestly that would be a feature for me. Most driers have such hot "low" settings that it's impossible to protect shirts

      Well it took me 4 hours to dry normal load clothes. No function does that only 60min longest if I recall. Went back to vent dryer.

        That's a crock of shit. Either you have a defective dryer or you're doing something incredibly wrong like loading 15kg of sopping wet washing in it.

        I have this exact model and it takes ~2.5-3 hours for super wet towels/doonahs from cold start.

        It will be a lot more efficient if you do back to back cycles. I've found a regular load of clothes only takes about 45 mins on back to back cycles, maybe 1.25-1.5 hours on fresh start.

      Very negliable difference IMO, YMMV.
      But the savings of electricity bills are significant.

  I have this, paid similar, and certianly in my opinion this is a solid product and a bargain.

  Yes - it takes longer than a conventional dryer. However, it also costs far less to run per dryed load (about 1/3rd of the cost), and doesn't damage clothes in the same way I experienced.

  Can anyone please explain the "running cost" on this heat pump dryer? I'd like to buy but still be confused.

  Convention Dryer take 1-1.5hour while heat pump dryer takes 2.5-3 hours. I agree it doesn't damage clothes due to low heat feature, and cheaper per hour wattage, but it takes double the time. I honestly dont see any savings.

    Apparently rated 8 Stars ~134Kw per year (*40c a Kw/h = $54 a year) vs 2 star ~326Kw per year (just got the first vented 8kg 2 star label I could find) = $130 a year. So saving $75 a year in running costs.

    It takes double the time, but uses roughly 1/3 of the power per load.

    It takes 1/3 of the power to run this for 3 hours as it does to operate normal vented dryer for 1 hour.

    If you want stuff dried as quickly as possible, you don't use it often, and don't mind shrinkage then this may not be for you.

  Here's CHOICE magazine review of Haier HDHP80A1 review Heat pump clothes dryer. 8kg capacity. Priced at $1399.
  - rating 80%, 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀• Very good energy score• has auto sensing program• Has very/extra dry program• has delay time
  • Has child lock controls 𝗕𝗮𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀• No low temperature/delicate program.
  CHOICE had a Best clothes dryer comparison reviews on 9th October 2023, but for some reason this dryer was not in the comparison of 25 different dryers, including vented, heat pump and condenser dryers. the Haier HDHP80A1 got a score of 80% which would have meant that the dryer would have come 5th out of 26 dryers. But this 80% score is only for "this overall score is made up of energy efficiency (60%) and drying time (40%)" not for quality of build, noise levels, warranty etc. There were 3 reviews left by CHOICE members which I would trust more than any other source of user reviews (trustpilot, productreview etc). Here they are;

  Don’t buy, We keep getting an error message concerning the filter even though it had been cleaned and the recess dusted out. It is maddening!
  The sheets also are nearly impossible to dry because they roll up into a ball. I would never ever recommend this dryer ⭐ 1 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫, not recommended
  Wasn't sure why this unit isn't 'Recommended' by Choice, as it really adds up in the home. We have owned this dryer for 3 months, purchased from The Good Guys via eBay for under $900 delivered, with the old unit removed, and the new one installed.
  It's capacious, quiet and inexpensive to run, owing to the heat pump. Its not quick, but your clothes don't get cooked!! The filter is very good, and the condenser reservoir huge. Cost per load is commendably low.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 𝟓 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬, 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝
