[Factory Second, QLD] LG GF-L570MBL 506L Matte Black French Door Fridge With Plumbed Water & Ice $1,288 C&C @ Smart Electronics

742

Stumbled across what looks to be (according to the URL) a black friday sale that's still live.

Edit: Pointed out in the comments they're factory second.

Edit: The NEW price for a NON FACTORY SECOND ITEM at all the major outlets is ~$2270 to $2700.

I've got one and paid double that about two years ago.

48 in stock at the moment.

The store info states..

"All products sold by Smart Electrical Clearance Outlet Brisbane IS A BRAND NEW OR RECONDITIONED UNIT." and implies a 12 month warranty, but you can add an extended warranty, though these units advertise a 10y linear compressor warranty.

I can't see anything from the product page that specifies if these are new or reconditioned units.

You might want to put supplier name in Topic rather than competitor as it’s a little confusing

Also further down there web page listing it says 10 year warranty doesn’t apply to factory seconds, so that implies it’s a factory second.

    • Changed the title, thank you

      • +3

Time to change it again because there's no reason for JB/Goodguys prices to be added there because JB/Goodguys are selling brand new items.

  • We have this fridge. It’s great. Huge ice stash. The cold water amount isn’t huge and goes room temp quickly, but because of the ice it doesn’t really matter.

    • I found the same with my new fisher and paykel. Likewise, don’t mind too much as the ice tray is always packed to the rafters. The water dispenser is just a convenient source of semi-chilled filtered water and I’m fine with that. In fact I’ve started to appreciate that isn’t ice cold for the times when I want something just in between.

    • It's great when it works! Mine literally stopped today (my guess is the compressor—apparently LG have shitty compressors in these models), and i've wasted all day trying to get some repairmen out earlier than january.

      • I have 2 LG fridges and they have both been great. One is a 700+ litres and one is 620L I think that recently got demoted to being an outside fridge. That fridge is now around 13yo and has never missed a beat.

Only minor issue is that sometimes the ice cubes inside the ice dispenser can get stuck together which makes it impossible to crush/dispense them and then I have to open the container and clear them out. This fridge is a non plumbed one which honestly I prefer but they're getting harder to find.

      • I've also had compressor issues on an LG fridge, there's no way I'm ever buying another LG, burnt once already and lost a bunch of food.

  • +3

Do me a favour stay away from LG fridges, my 4 year old LG just stopped cooling and freezing due to compressor failure, 10 year warranty doesn't cover labour

    • I think you'll find that with majority, if not, all manufactures (labour).

      • +7

Wow, the warranty doesn't cover labour?

So if my 1 year old high yield investment engine explodes, mercedes will pay for the new engine but charge me 12 hrs of labour to install it?

If my $2000 Facebook machine wifi card fails, Apple will replace the wifi chip but will charge me labour for unscrewing the screws and slotting it in?

If my frypan handle falls off, the cookware company will pay for the oxyacetylene but I will have to pay for the guy to weld it back together?

        That doesn't sound right

        • +2

Labour will only be generally covered for 12 months for home appliances. The rest will be parts warranty, labour excluded. Read the warranty card, each depends on the item, although ACL will probably extend it for 3 years or so.

Cars are different they will cover labour for warranty years.

          • +3

@ATangk: Limitation of labour warranty to 1 year for a $1300 fridge doesn't sound legal and someone should challenge it in the tribunals

    • +5

You will be covered under the Australian warranty for that contact LG first & if no luck contact accc /fair trading .

    • +8

Surely you'd be able to go via Australian consumer law to argue a fridge should last longer than 4 years?

I bought a 2 year old LG GB-455PL for $500. Been the best fridge I've owned. So quiet, great use of space and uses less power than the sticker rating - my power meter has been on it for over 6 months and it's going to average 230kWh for the year.

What alternative fridge would you buy in this price range? Even the likes of Westinghouse aren't what they used to be and some reviews of them complain about it making weird high pitched noises that are beyond irritating in a quiet room. I have seen a friend's Westinghouse fridge (fridge on bottom) and the quality isn't that amazing, the veggie bin drawer didn't last long before it won't stay on it's runner so now kinda 'drags' out rather than 'rolls'.

I definitely think LG are reasonable for the money. Certainly miles ahead of Samsung quality.

      • +2

I have exact the same fridge lol, which failed. If you search their website about warranty, the manufacturer warranty is 2 years and10 years cover the compressor (parts only)

Not sure why I get downvoted.

        • As far as I'm aware, despite whatever warranty the manufacturer places on a product, if it's reasonable for it to last longer, then Australian Consumer Law should help. A fridge should last longer than 12 months.

In saying that, surely labour to swap out a compressor wouldn't be that much would it??

          • +1

@placard: Labour cost would be hundreds. Removing, fitting, and regassing is pretty involved.

      • These are all factory seconds, you need to know if they qualify for same warranty expectations as defined by consumer law as a new fridge.

I dont have that answer, maybe someone else does.

    • Same went to inspect a samsung fridge from good guys. It was turned on running power, fridge had issues with the fan (noisy) and the lights didnt turn on, sales rep blamed faulty sensor, and the fan due to kids playing. But the compressor fan is behind the fridge…….

It had the 10 year compressor warranty etc, but i think compressors rarely fail its the PCB and other supporting stuff that cooks it

      Went with Panasonic

      • +3

In South Korea, LG is always better than Samsung for most white goods (fridge, washing machine etc). Samsung fridge has many quality issues.

    • +2

I bought an LG fridge in 2008 that is still going strong. You should pursue your statutory warranty rights under ACL

    • +3

Ours is 11 years in and still going strong - LG is great.

Samsung fridges are the ones to avoid - now those genuinely are sh1te.

      • I agree that LG is much better than Samsung when it comes to white goods.

Had a Samsung fridge around 2010 that broke down twice in 6 months. On the other hand, LG fridge has lasted ages. Had a top loader LG washing machine which I used for 6 years and then flipped on Gumtree in working order. My current LG front loader is going great since 2018 without skipping a beat.

  • This is a brilliant deal!! I almost wish I needed a fridge just so I could grab this. We have a similar model, with the side by side fridge/freezer, still like new after 6 years. I have a family that loves to look inside the fridge/freezer with the alarm bell chiming away, this fridge has never iced up. Unlike previous fridges I have owned.

    • +6

Call me a cynic but this comment also sounds like a poor attempt as an employee to push the sale.

Also - LOL @ your post history calling out LG for warranty issues?

      • +1

I think it's nice that Zaddo is marvelling at what is really a modern marvel. We should be glad quality fridges are now relatively cheap.

    • +1

Whilst checking your alleged LG sleeper status I saw you had issues with LG over warranty. Did this not put you off the brand?

      • +2

Yep, that really pissed me off at the time. That fridge was in our shed and had to work hard (Live in Brisbane, summers are hot). I thought I was protected by the LG 10 Year compressor warranty as the Fridge was only 8 years old. It turns out LG 10 Year warranty is worth nothing, it is just a sales gimmick.
I have come to accept that most white goods will now last you 6 to 10 years. Depending on your luck. With the exception of Bosch German manufactured models and maybe other European manufactured products.
In answer to your question, I am not an LG fan boy. But their products are par for the course with mid-range manufacturers. Sometimes that is all I can afford and a good bargain helps stretch the $'s

        • You purchased a 2.8k Fridge to live in a shed? Idk man..

          • @Robbo95: You are a cynic… You did say to call you that. You certainly are trying hard to live up to your self appointed title ;-)

Anyone had luck getting JB to price match? Currently on the queue to talk to someone.

    • +1

Let us know how you go, might do the same

      • +3

JB wouldn't price match due to the Fridge being factory seconds which they don't price match.

    • Let us know how you go!

  • +4

I so don't recommend slim French door fridges - at this size it's not practical to have two narrow doors.

Moreover, LG makes sure it's even less practical - you can't arrange its glass shelves for beer bottles to stand (unless you remove one shelf altogether), and you need to open both doors to comfortably access either of the veg/fruit drawers. That's not what you want from a crucial home appliance that you use mutliple times a day. Also not sure if this model has soft close, which is not that important, but nice to have, esp. at this price.

I wholeheartedly regret getting my LG slim French door fridge, but it's hard to replace now.

    • +1

I'm also not a fan of any french door fridge. They don't seem to be efficient on space, sometimes the door containers are so impractical to store anything. Invariably both doors needs to be opened as you don't know which side of the fridge something might be in.

      • +1

I generally know where things are in my fridge and which door to open, and I was looking forward to having that double door, but it's pointless when it's slim. I'd rather had a wide single-door fridge.

I'm terrified at the number of upvotes on this deal. I'd hope nobody makes the decision based on the strange popularity of this deal.

Also noting it's 3 Star Energy Rating (that's rather poor) and the wifi is useless - how many time have you been at the grocery store and wished to remotely adjust the temperature in your fridge?

  • +4

Its a factory seconds outlet so - "*1 Year Warranty. 3 Years if extended warranty is purchased. 10 Year Warranty on the compressor is not valid on Factory Second items."

    • Ta - updated description.

  • I've got the bigger 706MBL model, the best fridge I've ever had.

It is really quiet - my fridge is in an open plan area and I can't hear it, unlike my previous Westinghouse I could hear from other rooms!

And the kids can fill their own water bottles and glasses :)

    • That's 2x the price tho.

  • NO!!! 835wide

I need to move to a new place (Oh wait wife rejected that idea already) 😭😭

    • We were searching for fridges and the sales associated stated that lg are the only ones that do smaller french style fridges (probably due to the integrated ice maker in the door). Don't know how true that is.

So if you can't fit an LG french door, then you can't fit anything else (apparently).

      • I am just taking a P of my own place….

No French door will fit except may be the small Mitsubishi one. I do have the choice to put one outside the kitchen though.

        • Hisense do a smaller one which is what we have cause we had the same size issue. But compressor failed just within warranty

      • Its not true hisense has a french door one that is 794

  • +1

    Mitsubishi FTW

    • +1

      yeah if only $1288.

    • +1

Sure, for 3 times the price.

    • Have Mitsubishi even released a new fridge model in the last 10 years?

  • +1

    pretty decent price tha

  • +2

These 4 door french doors are such a gimmick. Loved the idea and the looks when we bought it but they are so impractical and a waste of space with the way shelving is organised.

"All products sold by Smart Electrical Clearance Outlet Brisbane IS A BRAND NEW OR RECONDITIONED UNIT

so it's likely a used product

  • +8

All products sold by Smart Electrical Clearance Outlet Brisbane IS A BRAND NEW OR RECONDITIONED UNIT

I can't see anything from the product page that specifies if these are new or reconditioned units.

    Huge red flag.

As if there's no difference between brand new and a "reconditioned unit" - whatever that means. I'll avoid dodgy sellers like this one.

    "We sell horse for $100"

All horses we sell may be a horse or horseshit

To the sheep here bleating about what a great deal this is - first check if you're getting a new item or a dud that's been repaired in Habib's backyard because this seller things they're equivalent.

    • That's not a red flag.

      🔻🔻🔻⚠️ THIS IS A RED FLAG!!!⚠️ 🔻🔻🔻

I wholly agree with your warning.

    • Habib repaired 48 of the same model fridge in his backyard?

      • He has a large backyard.

It may seem unusual, but it's not a first where a company has a very large number of refurb products of a given model. If all the units go to a single service centre, then it makes sense.

  • Any luck outside of Brisbane price matching?

    • Given that this is likely an used item, you should be able to get something similar on Facebook marketplace for cheaper.

  • GG rejected saying they won't price match and asked to get me through the same seller as it's a great price..lolz

  • QLD only, lame ahh

  • +3

Should be clear in the title that it’s a factory 2nd. Bit misleading of the OP not to make that clear

    • +1

I stated in the description that I wasn't sure if it was or not, and now that several people have pointed it out, I've added that info in.

  • +2

500l ? What is this, a fridge for ants?

  • +1

A quick search on YouTube will show that LG and Samsung still have the highest number of issues with compressors failing.

Aye Mitsubishi and Panasonic is where it's at (for fridges)
Those Japanese make some gooood appliances

      • Who's sells Panasonic fridges ? If as good as their TVs they'll be awesome

        • I bought one of these floor stock second with 24 months warranty @harvey Norman clearance store in Marion SA 2.5 years ago for $1100(+$300 washing machine) delivered about 70km away. A bloody bargain and a great fridge w/bottom freezer that we have had nothing but good things with.

Only thing is it doesn't have a beep if the door is left open, but the way it's designed is unless the door is literally open to the maximum point it will always slowly swing shut without fail.

Mitsubishi is premium tier fridges though, I'd pick Panasonic second but price is also more premium.

    • +1

Are we talking numbers or %s? I can't watch the video atm.

Because I wouldn't be surprised if they were two most popular brands in the world, so the number are high whatevers stats you have; % is a separate thing.

Still, I recommend to avoid this fridge.

      • Not sure about the % just talking about sales and repair workers saying that lg and Samsung have the most fails. Lg make some quality products but fridges aren’t one of them. They’ve also had class actions due to their failures and lack of warranty service.

        https://youtu.be/rKJgYVhZ6-w?si=P9Q9O--Q2jLT6vLr

        • If Brand Great sells 10000 appliances and 100 fails, that's 1% of failures.

If Brand Crap sells 1000 units and 50 break down, then it's 5% failure.

Crap is 5x more likely to break than Great.

Yet, repair workers can say they have to fix Great twice as often.

Not saying it's the case, I was just wondering what we were talking.

  • +5

Please remove references to prices of this item at JB and goodguys because those are brand new and therefore the prices are not comparable.

    • +2

Done. Also changed the description to reflect that more clearly.

      • Thanks 👍

  • +3

Ridiculous…they say our stuff are new or refurbished…that's a big difference

  • -1

Nowhere says factory second. It’s Queensland pick up only.

    • +2

Says it on the websites home page that the entire website is for seconds/refurbished products. Doesnt need to say it on a per product listing when its every product

Edit: The company is called 'Brisbane "Factory Seconds" Outlet for LG, Hisense and Hitachi Home Appliances'

  • +2

First and foremost, I understand everyone else's experience may differ. Still, based on my recent experience purchasing a fridge from this store, I recommend that you look beyond the appeal of a significantly reduced price and consider potential headaches you may have to deal with when buying factory seconds, like the ones I'm dealing with right now.

The first thing to note is that they only sell factory seconds, and it's not evident from the photos on the website, but 99% of the time, there will be dings, dents, faded chrome and other cosmetic defects.

Secondly, aside from Samsung and Electrolux, the retailer handles repair and warranty, NOT the manufacturer. It's not dissimilar to buying a second-hand car from a dealer. But even if you buy those two brands with a manufacturer warranty, you can't return to them to request servicing (which you're entitled to under ACL). They'll most likely - at least in my case - fob you off to arrange it with the manufacturer directly.

Thirdly, if you end up with a defective product, you might have a hard time doing a return.

In my case, I bought a fridge online - based on a deal someone shared in a comment on this site - not realising it'll be factory second. Like the linked deal here, the product listing page doesn't make it explicitly clear that you'll be getting factory second, nor is there any mention of possible cosmetic defects. Mine came with lots of dents, more than I can tolerate even with the savings.

I returned to the store to ask for a possible return as I didn't realise the fridge would come with so many dents, and wanting to be cooperative and quickly resolve my the issue, traded up for a better-looking fridge. The more expensive-and-no-cosmetic-defect fridge, I was told, comes with a 12-month manufacturer warranty. Happy days, right? Unfortunately not! Within two days after the fridge was installed, it didn't work correctly - freezer was never cold, then the fridge compartment also stopped being cold.

I returned to the store to exercise my right to a return and refund for a defective good, and to no one's surprise, they're not cooperating. Saying that their agreement with Electrolux would make it difficult for them to get the goods fixed by the manufacturer - which I understand is not a problem for me as the consumer - and instead kept pushing me to contact the manufacturer directly.

Had I known I would have to deal with these headaches, I would much rather buy new, and pay more from retailers like JB Hi-Fi, Good Guys, etc - as at least they will be easier to deal with if you end up with a defective goods or one that's DOA within a week. Lesson learned.
