Close to their pre order price in 2020

    • +2

And average price from basically every store selling them just a month or so ago and bundled with a game. The only reason they can't sell them for that price is just to make the slim look like a good deal. I'm sure there's plenty of fat versions still out there will definitely be more clearances after Christmas.

  • +6

We've seen low 600s or even 500s, after that last Ebay mega deal I can't see myself getting one at this regular ish price.

    • +4

Yeah I've been wanting one for a while, but will hold off for another $600ish deal with God of War Ragnarok thrown in if there's any more of those bundles.

    • +4

Same, but like eg my sister missed all the black friday deals and now she needs one for the christmas tree.
Although I got one 2021 for $750 and I was pretty happy with that.

  • +19

Here for the $505 dollar comments.

    • You won't get any.

Because it was $506. Including Spiderman 2, which is like $109 on Amazon right now.

I have no intention of playing that game, but have no regrets buying at that price, even if a PS5 Pro is possibly imminent, did not care at all about the 'Slim' model.

  • cashrewards 1.75% amazon gift card would knock a bit more off

  • +1

Needs to be cheaper in comparison to the new slim prices but I'll grab one if <$600 :)

  • +2

Honestly would buy if I wasn't so attached to my PC library… I'm kind of tired how expensive gaming PCs are getting, so going no-brains consolemode and just having a mini PC for emulation/indies is getting really tempting right now…

    • Just don't forget about the $100 annual fee to stay online

      • +2

        Oh god you're right

        • If I factor in the costs of the subscription and the fact I'll still own a PC anyway even if it's cheap one it's worth just spending that extra 1k on the PC. I got the $505 deal and ended up selling it to my mate within the week for the same price because I cant stand subscription services.

      • I haven't had ps plus or the likes since the service started around 2010 and I have PLENTY of games.

        The service is not needed.

        • +2

It's needed to be able to play online though which is a basic free function on PC. That's my comparison not for the game pass.

      • +1
        • Yikes, $100 annual fee for 7 years + $500 SSD + $700 console you could have gotten a 2k PC build.

  • its finally going down lol ps6 must be close :D

    • +3

Rumours of PS5 Pro is out online using the latest AMD chips. Just did a quick search online and many site results came up. Rumoured for launch in late 2024.

    • Its probably that people dont have as much loose cash these days with the economy slowing. Pricing hopefully will continue to become more realistic.

  • +2

There have been some cracker deals that brought this down < $600.

    1. The Black Friday deals recently ($505 the best one of that lot)
    2. $100 Off AMEX + Price Match Amazon/SONY STORE ($599 Delivered)

While I do see maybe one more cycle of that it won't be before Christmas.

As for PS6/PS5 Pro the latest 'rumours' of a PS5 Pro is putting it sometime end of 2025.

Other than the size difference I don't find the PS5 Slim compelling. Take note those who like to jailbreak, it's usually the 'Phat' models that get jailbroken first.

    • +1

The Black Friday deals recently ($505 the best one of that lot)

That's $505 WITH a AAA game that is around $100 right now (Spiderman 2)

    • Ooof, the Pro rumour has bumped back to end of 2025? That is not a short wait. Where is that info from? Found it…

      • Hopefully it’s not true. I’ve been holding out this long for the pro, I’m not waiting another 2 years lol. PC gaming is looking good

      • November 2024 is the rumoured date for the pro.

  • There is no reason to go for the slim version when they are literally have same performance? Don’t tell me newer is better :D

    • I prefer the original, the slim isn't a proper slim and just seems like a cost cutting exercise.

      • the slim would have only had my interest if it came in around orig launch price… $799 is a pisstake.

…and by most reports ive seen its hotter and noisier…

instead i got the $505 deal with spidey2. the og ps5 is huge, but always loved how its completely silent.

best bet is the orig and waiting on the ps5pro, which will no doubt be out in another year or two. and actually have some motivation to upgrade.

    • Slim had a bigger internal drive I believe comes standard with 1TB

    • -2

whoever says slim version is slim has some serious issues , its slim since it has no drive….lazy sony

  • remeber to combine this with Cashrewards gift cards for a few extra % off

  • Amazon is the only retailer that still has phat PS5's, all others don't show any stock for it.

Unless they are saving the remaining stock for Boxing Day deals.

    • Definitely saving the remaining stock, their bundles expired and didn't go OOS but yeah boxing day or after I'd expect to see more $680 with a game bundles.

  • *Fat model

    • +1

      Body shamming

      • Big is beautiful. Updated the post for you.

    • I prefer a slim size 6 PS5

I have a strict no fat PS5 policy

  • are there any downsides to getting 2nd hand disc versions?
Also, what's the advantage of "slim"?

    • +1

Just not knowing if it actually works/not having a warranty. Slim has 1TB storage compared to phat around 800GB, slim has replaceable disc drive which helps with repairability and apparently it's got a better wi-fi chip. Other than that and being smaller it's the same.

    • +1

The cell battery is better accessed than the 1200 fat model. On the fat model, the battery is under all the cooling. Needs full disassembly to replace.

    • +1

The disc has the serial number built in so no risk really so long as the disc isn't scratched up and can be read.

Personally I like the disc version as you can re-sell your games, can't really do that with digital.

Plus for instance you can get games like Diablo IV and Final Fantasy XVI for <$50 almost as new… general more expensive for digital copies. Then when you're done probably resell them at the same price.

  • This is probably your last chance to grab one of these big boys because it seems Sony have told retailers to remove it from their websites and replace it with the dieted version.

    • +2

That's stupid. What are these retailers going to do with any left over stock of the fat PS5. They aren't going to dump it in the rubbish. No they are going to sell it off just the same as what Amazon is doing.

      • Good luck finding one. Thicc was on sale not long ago for ~$600 to make way for the Slim.

  • +1

This appears to be the fat PS5. Cool. Must be the last of the stock which Amazon has.

    • Yep, almost certainly clearing leftover stock.

  • At this point in time, I'm waiting for the PS5 Pro

    • Pro won't be worth it. If it's like the PS4 Pro, it will barely improve games and be held back by the base models.

      • The PS4 pro is definitely worth it, especially if you're getting it straight off the bat rather than upgrading. I'm holding off until the PS5 Pro, by the time it releases it will have a decent library to dive into.

        • The ps5 pro should be like a 8700XT level GPU

        • Most of the comments I've heard about PS4 pro were that it didn't really make games that much better to play. But if you're super into frame rates then I suppose it makes sense to wait for it, but don't imagine it'll be cheaper than $800

          • +1

@ANoobishFellow: the pro was priced well & it was a step towards better frame rates & 4K, albeit letterboxing. also, it was around 2016 when the ps4 generation was hitting its peak but there was still 3-4 years or tripleA exclusives and that was the best way to play em. it was a good deal then, and still in hindsight.

similarly a ps5-pro in a year or two, i imagine around GTA6 release, won't leave people behind but will add a huge performance boost for those that want it… it'll most likely be focused on 4K60fps quality modes w/ improved ray tracing. it'll also probably allow a super performance mode for the recent games with quality modes that are pushing the hardware a bit (though nothing really is, but frames AND graphics do make for more immersion).

in some ways you could look at the ps5 as the ps4-pro-2. the main difference with the ps5 era is its 3 years in and its not yielding the same level of game releases… a lotta people are mostly just enjoying the super smooth ps5 versions of ps4 games.

            • @autolux: Good points. Guess it depends how long you can wait haha. I've been waiting for a slim ps5 for 3 years but now that it's here I'm not sure it's worth it.

  • +2

With the slim model coming, I would rather take the slim one and wait for the next promotion events.

  • I really want a fat PS5 but missed the Black Friday sales. Do you think they will do fat PS5 bundles for Boxing Day or will this be the last chance to get a fat PS5?

    • +1

I don't think there will be any fat PS5 consoles left to purchase at Boxing Day. This is probably your last chance to get it. I think that Amazon is the last retailer with brand new stock left. Once this stock is gone that's it. So now is what's likely your last chance.

      • I find it hard to believe that they have someone sold all the old models just within the last couple of weeks when there was plentiful stock.

I bet Sony has just told all the stores to pull the old model to generate slim sales, and in a couple of months will get retailers to clearance the old model off

        • +1

I know someone who works at JB and fat stock has been extremely low or sold out in many stores in last few weeks. As in inventory on system reflecting this. It's Xmas too.

        • Thicc has been pulled from all the retailers websites. I don’t see it making a comeback just to go on clearance.

      • Well I went to check it yesterday and it had sold out in less than a day :').

Looks I'm out of luck then :(.

  • +1

    Right here, right now

    This is a Fatboy, slim.

  • Haven't taken the plunge to buy ones of these yet, is there any real difference of the slim compared to the original and what timeline will the pro be released if its not far away then makes sense to get the pro off the bat?

    • The only noticeable advantage of the slim is the 1tb vs 8xx something gb

  • +5

    Seems gone.
    Collector item now.
Can only get new "cheap" slim model that is hotter, noisier and more expensive right now…
Slim model with disc also needs internet connection to activate disc drive to play games out of the box (no internet required with Phat model to play games on disc)…
