$139 One Way from Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Alice Springs @ Bonza (Fly Bonza App Required)

101

The new route will see increased tourism to the NT gateway bringing more than 38,000 seats to the region with Bonza fares starting from just $139 per person (one way). The low-cost carrier’s Melbourne to Alice Springs route will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Bonza CEO Tim Jordan said the new route reinforces Bonza’s mission to make air travel affordable for the many, not the few whilst stimulating the domestic tourism market.

Bonza is the first airline globally to take an app-first approach with the only place to book direct being the Fly Bonza app.

They are paying you $139?, surely can't be asking for $139

    Will it get cancelled though?

    • +1

Probably. I recently had 2 flights cancelled and 3 delayed with Virgin within one trip, so can't imagine this would be any better.

      • +1

Virgin staff are apparently on the brink of going on strike.
Though this wasn't the cause of your delay/cancelations, it's a good indication of staff sentiment across the Virgin network. Probably best to stay away from Virgin till this is all settled.

        • Yeah there's definitely some shenanigans going on. Sounds like Virgin aren't managing their staff well. One of my flights was cancelled because, and I quote, they "couldn't find a first officer."

You'd be brave to book any kind of travel with Bonza at the moment. They're exhibiting all the same signs that Impulse/Air Australia did in the weeks/days up to their untimely demise.

      Don't forget Compass Airlines…

      • Or Ansett Airlines ;)

        • Or Strategic Airlines, later renamed to Air Australia, which bought OzJet.

  • Im lost, I'm on the website and I can't even see how to book a flight

    • +2

you have to download their app, apparently.

      • And there it is, this airline won't last, not even a website to book through

        • The only reason I see this being app only is so they can install software on your phone that can either spy on you or nag you to use them, which is a big minus from me. I bet all this could be done from a Web portal but they have deliberately excluded this option as they wouldn't be able nag as much after you've completed the purchase.

Bonza's fleet management (they have been leasing their aircraft to other airlines) has been so poor they have had to cancel a lot of flights due to them not having the aircraft, so very much a case of buyer beware.

      • What if you don't have a phone with apps?

        • +4

Ask Santa to give you an app capable phone this Christmas.

        • just ride your horse there

        • @jv, you can book Bonza flights through over 1,000 travel agents in Australia, if you aren't able to book direct on their app: https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/how-to-book-bonza…

@UberIsCool it is worth the effort if you do want to save money on flights, and the schedule is convenient for where you want to travel. Nice new planes and very friendly, Aussie service. I flew with them 7 times last year and highly recommend.

I prefer to book direct using my PC.

Sadly very hard for me to recommend booking with these guys, at least if you can't risk any delays/cancellations. Had a flight booked out of Melbourne earlier this week, which they cancelled with about 7 hours notice - with no alternative seat offered on any future flights, so I ended up having to book a new one at short notice for a fair bit more money. A relative had a flight booked for a couple hours later on a different route - was delayed 2 hours before being properly cancelled at 11:20pm, stranding a heap of people at the airport overnight with no compensation offered except for a "sorry" and a seat on a flight the next day. Would love to support a new player in the space, but 2 for 2 cancellations is pretty stiff.
