I sound like this after a few drinks too mate, don't sweat it.

  • Can google store match price with Officeworks for pixel 8pro?

    • Yes! All you need to do is order on Google store, and then contact them and they'll refund the difference

      • What I was hoping to do is use student bin discount after google match the price..as at the moment pro is 1448 on Officeworks so if google reduce upfront then o can get it for 1303.
Y budget stretch to $1000 for 8 pro ..πŸ˜” as pixel 8 doesn't have all camera tricks that pro has.. including lence size

        • they dont reduce the price. they will refund you.

Still too much for a Pixel phone, which is just a mid spec phone. Wait for the end of the month, or January if you can, for a deal on the S23

    • +1

      Ok

    • +1

      got s23plus 256gb for 1032 last week

      • +4

Got an S23 ultra a month ago for $948, doesn't make this a bad deal, some people prefer the pixel.

      • +3

I sold my brand new s23ultra for 1100 cash and I regret that.

      • Where from?

        • +1

          JB

          • @chewieeez: That's a great price. How did you knock $367 off their asking price?

            • +1

@Ozb101: @Ozb101 It is currently 1299, i went on live chat and asked for a better price, managed to get it down to 1199. then used 10$ perks code to bring it to 1189, and then bought 1189 worth of gift cards at 13% off.

      Not everyone likes Samsung.

      • -6

Fair point. Lots of complaints on this forum about Pixel 7, 8 and 8 Pro, so not everyone likes Pixels either!

    • Still too much for a Pixel phone, which is just a mid spec phone.

      It's a mid spec price. S23 is $1350 and iPhone is $1500.

      • -1

The price of the S23 is pretty rubbery, especially if you have a trade in when Samsung are doing one of their numerous sales. Even trading in an old S7 on Black Friday, you could have had the S23 for ~$750

      • -1

You're still buying flagship phones? Who does that anymore?

        • +1

          You're still buying flagship phones?

Not me, I merely pointed out that Pixel is a mid spec phone for a mid spec price.
I'll wait til the next trade-in offer and probably pickup a P8 for about $600

    • +1

I was a massive Samsung fan until a couple years ago when they started integrating OneDrive directly into their OS, thereby limiting it's functionality and preventing me from being able to sync videos / photos of my choosing..

I switched to Pixel and now can do all the native google stuff without having to content with Samsung's crappy limitations and iPhone'esq UX.

    • Is Pixel 8 pro compared against s23 or S23plus?

  • I picked up a Google 7 Pro a few days ago from JB for $806 with their Wicked Wednesday 5% off. It is still unopened. Thoughts on whether the Pixel 8 for $70ish more from this deal is worth it?

    • +9

Definitely worth the upgrade. Pixel 8 gets like 8 years of updates and at the price difference I would go to 8 being newer.

      • +2

Yeah, was just reading the 8 is getting OS and security updates until 2030! Think I will be returning the 7Pro and ordering the 8.

        • I'm a bit dubious about how much value this extended OTA from 8 can actually bring to consumers, I think these days people tend to upgrade phones every couple of years anyway. Personally speaking, there's 0 chance that I'd keep using an 8 phone for 8 years lol

          • @Baruarua: Some of us on this forum have kids who use old hand me down phones. My son has an S8 which still works well, has USB C charging, Samsung Pay works, pairs perfectly with his Samsung watch. And that's going on 6 years old. Arguably bugger all has changed since then if you just have basic needs. Probably even less will change in the next 8 years

            • @PhilToinby: True, I don't have kids but I'd think it's perfectly fine to have them use phones more economically, unless of course if they manage to make a living by themselves. However, I was referring to general adults that have stable incomes, use phone frequently, and have some tech requirement/expectations on their mobile equipment.

    • +1

I'd hold on to the Pixel 7 Pro if you can't get an 8 Pro. I quite enjoy the 4x lens on my 6 Pro and wouldn't want to buy another phone without one. I find the pictures look more professional with the 4x lens.

In terms of the length of the updates, I probably wouldn't hold on to a phone for that long, but it is good they are pushing that far out. I've been upgrading every 3-4 years.

      • +1

Fair comment, however the digital zoom on the Pixels is amazing, if you rarely need those longer shots. The 6 is good, the 7 is very good, and apparently the 8 is extraordinary. (My basis for comparison is a P6P and P7P in our house)

      • +2

Yeah, got my Pro 7 for $600 last year through HN/Optus LOL

I ain't upgrading til they got another ripper deal.

        Most phones are same same.

      Redeemed (by someone else)

  • Would the 7 pro not be better then just an 8 for the same price?

    • The Pixel 7 Pro is bigger, has a better screen and cameras vs the 8 which is a newer phone, better processor and will be supported for much longer (until 2030!).

It's personal preference depending what matters more to you. I personally wouldn't buy an 8 because I like bigger phones.

  • Can anyone comment on whether their pixel overheats when used for gps while driving during the day?

    • +1

if drive a car, use ac vent mount, it keeps any phone running cool

    • I put my P8 in front of the air condition vent and no issues whatsoever.

The phone does run generally hot though, like watching YouTube or just browsing. Feels warmer than my previous Pixel 4a.

  • Can Uncle helps out a poor nephew here? πŸ™

    • Your PM's need to be turned on - and apparently we need to use the megathread. :)

  • +2

    Nice deal

Pixels are so much better than Samsungs

    • +1

I think they are both good… no need to be so tribal about the brand of phone you use.

My missus has a Pixel 8 and I have an S23U, it's like a real life Romeo and Juliet situation.

    • What are you "looking for" in a phone?

      • to be honest - im really wanting to have one that does the basics - call, text / messaging

On top of the basics - I look out for the Camera and a productivity tool - dont play any games!

Also i plan to have this phone for about 5 years

        I have a S20 but have dead pixels :-/

  • Hi there, does anyone have a code they could PM me?

  • I would love a code if someone could please DM me !

  • Can anyone share a code, another pixel 5 user here who's phone suddenly died…3 years for it to switch off and not come back on doesn't feel reasonable…
