  • Would i get charged 500 if i don't trade it the phone?

    • Apparently not.

    • +3

Don't use the gift card they supply and after you purchase just contact them and cancel the trade in

      • +1

So you’ll get two gift cards. One is $1 for trade in and $500 for bonus. You mean to say just dont use the $1 and cancel the trade in? Is this before or after using the $500 bonus gift card?

        • +1

You'll get an email with a link to various items you can use towards the trade in, click the link for the s23, checkout, that's it

  • +44

Link to all Samsung S23 Ultra Colours

    S23 Ultra 256gb $1087
    S23 Ultra 512gb $1387
    S23 Ultra 256gb $1787

To get the $500 bonus, you must initiate a trade in from SquareTradeUp and the phone value must be at minimum $1.

If you don't have any device to trade in, use Apple Watch Series 1 all of those is valued at $1 and optional to enter serial number.

Once you get the gift card with trade in value, you will also get an email with subject: SquareTradeUP: JB Hi-Fi Trade-in Coupon Specials

Click on the Samsung S23 Ultra picture and you will receive another email with the $500 voucher code.

If you do not want to actually trade in your phone, you can use SquareTradeUp contact us page and tell them you changed your mind YOU WILL NOT NEED TO PAY THE $500 VOUCHER ONLY TRADE IN VALUE GIFT CARD

The best method is to make your purchase with coupon and not use the trade in gift card at all, so they will just deduct the amount back from the gift card. You can still use discounted JB gift cards to further discount the price.

Campaign Go live: 12 October 2023
    Campaign: 12/10/23 - 19/11/23
    Redeemable end date: 19/11/23 11:59pm

In the Pixel 8 deal, they stopped people from getting the gift card at 10pm Sydney time on the last day, so if you want to do it, make sure to get the code before then. You should still be able to redeem it after 10pm but before 11:59pm on the last day.

    Happy purchase.

    • i'm confused, when you say you don't actually want to trade it in do you mean the $1 card? so they only deduct the $1 not the $500? and by not using the gift card aswell you meant the $1? sorry new to being savvy/being on ozbargain

      • +1

If you don't want to trade in the device you used to get the trade in gift card / $500 coupon.

For example, if I traded in my Samsung S7 valued at $1, I will receive a $1 gift card. I make my purchase with only the $500 coupon and message squareTradeUp to cancel the $1 trade in, and they will deduct it back from the $1 gift card.

        • thanks for that. and one more thing does it matter when you go to message tradeup, like if i applied the 500 coupon on the phone and bought it, then went to them. would that matter or nah?

        • I "traded in" my S20 ultra for $140 but I didnt use it

Can I skip messaging squaretradeup and they will automatically cancel the gift card or will they charge my debit card?

          • +1

@siraulo23: If you don't message them, they will charge your debit card, and you end up with the equivalent value JB gift card.

Better to cancel because you can get discounted JB Gift Cards elsewhere. Don't pay $140 for $140 JB gift card.

@CodeXD: Wow, Just Wow, my brain went on a roller coaster ride to process this.

            • @CodeXD: Any details need to be provided to square trade for the cancel of trade in?

              • @samuraix29: Just the trade in order number

                • @CodeXD: Thanks so when I email them to cancel, I just need to include the trade in order number?

Thanks for the info! Managed to reduced order down to $853 using pm and big W gc of 10%!

                  • @samuraix29: Use this link to contact them

                    https://jbhifi.squaretradeup.com.au/contact-us

Hi SquareTradeUp, I received a gift card from JB Hi-Fi Trade-In but after consideration, I no longer want to trade in the phone. I have not used the gift card I received from the trade in. Can you please cancel it?

                    • @CodeXD: Nice! Any chance they would reject? When I have to do this by?

                    • @CodeXD: there's a jb store reference in the contact page, do we have to put that in?

                      • @samuraix29: I can't remember if I filled it in or not, but pretty sure it is only used to communicate with the store if you have any issues with the store. Like you've done the trade in and the store didn't want to accept your gift card.

        • Thanks for the explanation @CodeXD. Do i have to use the coupon to buy a Galaxy S23? Or can i buy something different? Let’s say a Eufy camera or another android phone?

        • I have used 500 jb coupn for my purchase, now if I want to cancel my trade in, can i do that? If I do that then i need to pay 500 to jb hi fi? Bcz when i go to cancel my trade in they are asking for jb hi fi store location, by it means whould they know that we cancelled trade in? And will deduct 500? Please let me know. Can i cancl trade in tomorrow or before 11 59 on 19th nov?

    • +2

Just to confirm - when you initiate the trade in you recieve 2 x coupons/gift cards: one for $500, one for the trade in value. If not wanting to trade in, proceed with the purchase using the $500 gift card but do not use the trade in coupon/gift card and contact square trade to cancel trade in. Is that correct?

      • +3

        Yep that is correct.

        • Thanks

        • +1

do i need to use the $500 gift card before i cancel the trade it?
or can i hold on to it for a bit longer. hoping for an even better sale next week…

          • +1

@jwsc: There's no order to do it in. I did this back in September and my link offers are still valid for the current deals lol For peace of mind you can cancel trade in after you make the order.

            The $500 coupon expires on 19/11/23 11:59pm

    • The best method is to make your purchase with coupon and not use the trade in gift card at all, so they will just deduct the amount back from the gift card.

Thank you for the thorough explanation you legend, this is the only part I don't understand. So you're advocating that we should not use the $500 trade-in coupon and instead pay the current sale price with other JB gift cards?

      • Sounds like "don't use the $1 trade in GC"

      • +3

Don't use the trade in gift card, use the $500 coupon.

        • +1

          Sounds phat, thank you

    • Won't JB charge your CC for the value of the voucher?
Has anyone done this successfully previously without being charged after the fact?

      • +2

Yes I did this back in September for Pixel 7. I did not get charged for the coupon. They only took back the trade in gift card.

        • Wow that's pretty crazy, now to decide if the s23u is worth upgrading to from the s22+..

          • @DeToxin: Same. Have S22+. I like the size of it compared to the bigger ultra size.

But, o could be tempted to upgrade

  • +1

I did this a few days ago based on the pixel trade in hack but got jb to price match mobilciti who had the s23 ultra at $1549 (mobilciti price has gone back up now though). Loving the s23 ultra so far!

    • can u use both pixel and Samsung coupon ( I have already used pixel 300 coupon) but I clicked get Samsung coupon and got that coupon as well. Can I use that? in the terms it mentions 1 coupon per trade in

      • Yep you can.

The email has links which will give you one of each available deal. You are not limited to only pixel or only Samsung deal.

  • +1

Not sure if to bite the bullet or hold

    • +4

      I myself would hold.
Here is a list of the release dates for the Samsung Galaxy Ultra series:
Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G: Released in January 2021].
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G: Released in February 2022
[Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G: Released in February 2023

In all likelihood we are talking a mere <10 weeks until S24 Ultra 5G

      • In all likelihood we are talking a mere <10 weeks until S24 Ultra 5G

So if I wait I'll be want to get the S24 Ultra 5G for the same price as this deal?

        • I really don't see why not. I paid way less than this for our 2x S22 Ultra 512GB. And that was very shortly after launch.

        • Most Probably or at least this one will take a nosedive.

      • +1

Yups, not worth it. $700 and i may feel interested.

  • +13

Hate to say it, but hard to justify buying after seeing these go for sub $800 in the last lot of Samsung deals.

    • S23 ultra for under $800?

      • +3

        Yes. Bought mine for 580

        • Which deal was this??

        • +1

I just wanna see the 24 at this price within a few months of launch.

Hopefully they save 30 bucks manufacturing it by getting rid of the idiot curved glass!

      • when did this deal come up?

        • +3

It wasn't posted explicitly as its own deal, was part of Samsung #youmake promotion.

You needed to buy 3 products from a list of items and you get 20% off. Then stack it with $10% first time app purchase, $500 off trade in bonus, $50 newsletter, $100 loyalty, 10% off from Samsung chat.

A lot of people bought S23 Ultra or Fold5 and then 2 x cheap sd cards / usb sticks

          • +7

            @CodeXD: I bought a Fold 5 512gb and an ultra s 23 256gb for $1500. Bargain of the year.

            • @Duece1995: but this deal you can't cancel the trade in?

              • @samuraix29: I sent in wired earphones valued at $1 (received $500 trade in bonus)

Asurion (Samsung trade in) will charge you $60 for not sending in your device.

                • @CodeXD: noted, for this JB deal, can i use my wired outdated apple earphone as a trade in? i dont see this option

                  • @samuraix29: Doesn't look like it. It was lucky that Asurion even accepted the wired earphones. I know the latest Asurion trade up app has blocked it so you cannot trade in earbuds/headphones to Samsung anymore.

              • @samuraix29: I traded in$1 headphones

            • @Duece1995: Which one do you prefer? the fold 5 or s23u?

              • +1

@Caped Baldy: I use the S23U. My wife uses the fold. The fold is too big for my pockets

          • @CodeXD: Do you get $50 newsletter instantly via subscribing? And $100 loyalty via chat?

            • @bheart: JB hi-fi don't have all these perks for deductions? 🤣

            • @bheart: Yes to both. I don't think they call the $100 off code loyalty tho, I just said I'm looking to buy S23 Ultra, is there any further discount you can provide.

              • @CodeXD: Shall i wait for samsung's one, you reckon they would have another same one coming out soon for Black Friday?

      • Yeah with the coupon stacking and trade-in about a month ago. I got mine for $708 after trading in $1 earbuds.

    • +1

My S20+ broke about a month ago and I have been holding out for a while. Sick of waiting and went for the best I could find at the time.

    • if you stack with 15% gift cards you can get close to $800

      $1587
      $500 bonus credit = $1087
      15% gc = $923.95
      $10 perks = $913.95

  • +6

Too close to the s24 plus curved display

    • +1

As good camera? How long will updates be?

    • +18

      Yeah but they're iPhones, ewww

    • +9

I don't use my phone for benchmarks though, I use it for messaging, media consumption, phone calls and taking pictures.

    • +20

You've been spreading your incorrect opinion all over these phone deals. A phone isn't dictated by benchmark scores. In terms of performance, the real-world speed of the phone is what really matters (Geekbench doesn't tell the full story).

Plus, the $400 iPhone won't come close to the S23 Ultra in terms of display, camera, battery, charging speed and even niche things like storage speed.

It's not a fair comparison. Benchmarks are only half of the story. Stop with these misleading comments, it's a waste of everyone's time.

        • +1

Once again, faster is less important than you're making it out to be. If you don't consider the other functions there cannot be a true comparison.

          • +4

            @killabob: Spot on.

A phone is more than a benchmarking tool. Everyone has their own values of what's important to them in a phone. Me personally, it's a good screen and camera. All flagship phones within the past ~4 years are good enough in performance, so it's no big deal there.

Plus, most users won't use anywhere near the full capacity of their phone's processing power in daily use lol.

        • +7

4.7" 60Hz 1334x750 326PPI screen in this day and age… Yea I'll pass on that one thanks.

Not to mention the glaring disadvantages with the phone over the Pixel 7:
          1822mAh Battery
          3GB RAM
          Outdated, reused 12mp single camera
          Slow charging speed
          Terrible screen to body ratio

if you had taken my advice the value of your phone would have appreciated

Look mate, if you buy phones with the intention of profiting from the value increasing over time, you do you.

For many, the camera alone on the S23 Ultra is enough to justify the depreciation over the years of ownership.

            • +2

@CheapGit: yes devastating my $90 3 year old android phone still on par with current $150 android phones, I’m totally shattered have nightmares about this daily

fortunately my new used $200 iPhone is the same speed as current android flagships

        • I post hard benchmarks which are hard to dispute

Yeah benchmarks are 100% accurate and impossible to dispute. Sure….

          Here is just one example

Recently, tech website AnandTech has discovered the companies’ anomalies. Apparently, both Huawei and Honor have altered their phones’ responses to certain benchmarking apps. When users open these apps, the phones automatically ramp up their performance specifically to pump up the test’s numbers.
Basically, when you run a benchmarking test on these phones, the resulting score artificially amplifies how the phone really runs.

          • @spaceflight: Is that like VW gas/diesel emission test scandal that costed them billions couple of years ago!

          • -3

@spaceflight: did you read my posts there is one with like 5 different web benchmarks all with apple winning

and go read what’s tested in geekbench it’s like everyday stuff

android fans continue to be emotional and in denial at how shit their hardware, that’s ok Darwinism at its best,I just buy what’s best value don’t care who wins really

did you read my posts there is one with like 5 different web benchmarks all with apple winning

Did you read mind that said benchmarks are pointless because manufacturers detect benchmark apps and react to fine the highest number.

and go read what’s tested in geekbench it’s like everyday stuff

What about the notebook check where the iPhone SE has
              Slower CPU
              6GB less ram
              About 40% smaller screen
              Lower PPI screen
              Lacks USB 3
              Older version of Bluetooth
              Over 2x smaller battery
              Much lower MP camera
              Only one camera
              About 50% less screen brightness
              Etc

But somehow that's the better phone?

It might have a better magical benchmark number however the Pixel it is being compared to smile give you a better user experience overall.

android fans continue to be emotional and in denial at how shit their hardware,

I'm not taking about Apple vs Android here

that’s ok Darwinism at its best

So if I don't have a iPhone SE I'll die?

I just buy what’s best value don’t care who wins really

Benchmarking using an app generated number isn't the way to determine the best value.

              • -3

@spaceflight: your posts are garbage tho you don’t even understand what my link is about

there are 5ish benchmarks which measure web performance looks like you didn’t find them, so not much to discuss. you instead focus on computer generated comparisons which is akin to following chatgpt for advice

your point is professional benchmarks which have existed for decades are cheating- ok believe whatever you want to suite your narrative not like I care

I’m just providing actual information take it or leave it

                • -1

                  @abctoz:

I’m just providing actual information take it or leave it

No you're not, you're living in a world justifying that a particular phone is better than all other phones because of some benchmarking.

A Ferrari has better benchmarking, its performance is hard to beat and all the car reviews say this.
I can afford a Ferrari but even with all the fantastic benchmarks I don't own one.
                  Why?
Because it's impractical and even though the benchmarks say it's better, it isn't.
It's cumbersome, hard to use on a daily basis, hard to see out of, has no storage, awful to live, expensive to maintain with and so on.

My Golf GTI doesn't come close to the Ferrari benchmarks but it is a much better car to own and use.

You said you want value for money.
So do you drink beer/wine or 100% pure ethanol?

The pure ethanol is by all standards superior because it is pure and the best value for money.
Beer and wine are watered down ethanol and would fail any benchmarking against ethanol.

But you probably drink beer/wine because it tastes better, is safer, more enjoyable and so on.

In your own words an iPhone SE 2020 fan…

there are multiple web benchmarks which stress single threaded performance which the $400 iPhone wins

                      So?
A single metric doesn't make the phone superior.

                      iPhone SE has
                      Slower CPU
                      6GB less ram
                      About 40% smaller screen

It might be better by a somewhat pointless metric but its real world usability and features are significantly worse.

You aren't going to convince anyone that things like
                          A bigger screen
                          High PPI
                          USB 3
                          Bigger better
                          Hugg MP camera
                          Multiple cameras
                          Higher screen brightness

                          Are "not worth anything"

single threaded performance is by far the hardest to achieve and worth the most money

Maybe decades ago when there was no such thing as multi core/threading and apps were designed to operate on a single core.
We live in a world of multi core apps and compatibility

like you can pay billions and there is no android phone that is faster than a $400 iPhone

                          Stick with your SE then.
Ignore all the advancements and features on the latest Apple and Android phones then.

                          Enjoy carrying your CPU around.
