Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 512GB (Online Exclusive Colours Only) + 2x 64GB MicroSD Cards $990.94 (+ $5 Trade-in) Del'd @ Samsung App

3757

The price in title is after all stacking discounts have been applied, using a trade-in device valued at $5.

I was not able to complete checkout because Asurion (the trade-in provider) is broken for me but I expect it should work for others.

To get this price:

  1. Install the Samsung Shop app to take advantage of the 10% discount for your first in-app order. Use the app for the remaining steps.
  2. Add the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 512GB to your cart. You must choose from the online exclusive colours only.
  3. Navigate to Computing & Display > Memory & Storage > Memory Card > EVO Plus microSD Card. Add 2 of the 64GB to your cart.
This should now have activated the additional 20% off advertised here: https://www.samsung.com/au/youmake/
If it hasn't taken effect, try forcing your cart to update by incrementing the quantity of SD cards, then decrementing.
  4. Add a trade in device to take advantage of the $600 trade-in bonus. You can use the TradeUp app to generate a $1 code for generic headphones (Or so I've heard. Asurion doesn't work for me. I added a $5 Huawei Mate 20 for testing.)
For reference, my total at this point is $1,382.
  5. Apply your 10% loyalty code.
  6. Apply your $100 loyalty code.
  7. Apply your $50 newsletter code.

I featured this particular device because it is eligible for the trifecta of bonus trade-in, stacking 10% discounts, and 20% off with the https://www.samsung.com/au/youmake/ bundle. For example, the 256GB model does not work, but the 1TB does. It may also apply to the S23 Ultra and Flip5. If it's not working, try testing combinations of other low-value products advertised in the above link instead of the SD cards.

Mod note: 1. Samsung EVO Plus microSD Card 64GB sold out. The deal as structured is expired. 2. Multiple user comments about the broken Asurion Trade-in system unable to process transactions.

    Nice find!!!!

      • +27

You are blaming Samsung for an ozbargain find?

        • -7

yep so-called fake bargains from samsung

          • @duodeta: You're not wrong, Samsung could easily make it so these codes and vouchers don't stack, which is the only reason it's a "bargain" anyway.

I just bought an S23 on the last sale and it took me a whole day of stuffing around to get the best price. If it cost me $50/$100 more but I could just order it straight up… Wouldn't that end up with more sales for Samsung from normies?

            • @miicah: How much did you pay for the base S23?

              • @Fobsessive: $670 (going to sell my old device + galaxy buds on FB marketplace).

                • @miicah: Woah that's an unfathomable bargain. $670 with free Galaxy Buds? Interestingly that insane stack isn't on Ozbargain deal history

          • @duodeta: if i can get it for $900 then it seems pretty real to me

      • +49

This is literally how bargains work.

There's a RRP price for wealthy dummies, who spend their spare time making money

Then there's discount prices for idiots like us, to spend our spare time jumping through hoops.

        Oh ..

        • +5

I think what he is saying that the RRP of the device should just be lowered so consumers don't need to follow these hoops to get a discounted price that is reasonable. I mean lets be honest, at $2800 this thing is a hard sell.

          • @cent88: Phones are a status thing now. hence the RRP. If a rich carries a 900$ fold and another rich carries a 2000$ iphone…. I mean you get the point.

        • -3
          • There's a RRP price for wealthy dummies, Then there's discount prices for idiots like them
That's the correct description of apple and sams fanboys in this case.
      • +13

This is not a Samsung marketing strategy, it's ingenuity by the OP to stack discounts on this product to a price that Samsung probably never expected to sell them for

        • +2

I'm all for this deal and gave it a well deserved +.

However, this is ABSOLUTELY part of Samsungs pricing strategy.

          • +6

@BusMan247: Do you think so? I assume population of people buying by stacking coupons like this is extremely small compared to overall sales.

        • +1

its literally part of their strategy otherwise the loophole wouldve been clsoed years ago

they do this to maintain high RRP for marketing and brand perception purposes

theyd look sub premium if it were priced lower

that plus traditional psychology of feeling like u got a good deal and fomo to buy

          • +1

@furythree: They can afford it, and it's another form of the massive carrier incentives/kickbacks they used to provide. From my perspective, the devices are indeed premium and the best Android devices you can buy. Their trade-in valuations are much more generous compared to Apple's (see what they offer for old iPhones), and they do indeed reward loyalty with all the codes they provide. I got a free Watch5 LTE from them using the Samsung Members loyalty offer they had in August – can't say Apple ever did that for me when I was a loyal Apple fanboy.

            • +1

              @itsfree: yep agreed

i dont find issue with this at all

last 3-4 cycles ive literally only paid a few hundred bucks or less to upgrade to the latest flagship with these codes and trade in deals

its just people buying a new phone for the first time and not being aware of deals getting screwed

i basically got my Fold 5 for free with all the stuff they gave me

which is why when someone whinges about android depreciation and apple secondary prices holding

i ask them if theyve ever upgraded to the latest iphone for $300 net cost lol

even with secondary prices holding, even iphones depreciate several hundreds of dollars

          • @furythree: You have a point, but the way the OP stacked all these incentives together is not by Samsung's design. They wouldn't expect them all to be used at once.

            • +1

@realJuliusCaesar: its not the first time samsung has had these type of deals.

sure certain things like the newsletter codes and new user codes may not be intended. but the bulk of the savings came from discount stacking thats been around for years

you cant tell me their accoutns teams didnt notice years of thousands of orders selling at significantly below normal prices and didnt patch the loophole

              • @furythree: I think you have strayed quite a bit from your original comment.

Anyway, it's kind of like dynamic pricing. Some people pay top price. They subsidise others buying at a hefty discount. I like that situation much better that a flat middle price for everyone.

      • +2

So you prefer Apple's marketing strategy that always sell at "reasonable rrp"?

        • hes probably one of those guys whos proud of how much they go for second hand
which means buyers of new second hand phones always over pay

and also ignores that net cost of selling old iphone model to use funds to buy latest iphone will always be more than the net cost of these brand new samsungs

but somehow apple is a better deal

    • +1

      yeah amazing find OP

i still managed to get it cheaper at launch trading in fold 4 and stacking with bonus codes

got it down to around 500-600$

then used my samsung points for another $200 discount

then claimed the free $300 galaxy watch 5

      • Really??!?!?! Omg how can I missed that.. 600 only….

  • +3

With the loyalty voucher, I assume I can get that via chat? How can I get the $100? Thanks OP

    • +14

      Here's what worked for me:
Email [email protected] for the 10% off.
For the $100 off, go to the Fold5 page (https://www.samsung.com/au/smartphones/galaxy-z-fold5/buy/) and "Chat with an expert". I think you want to select the 'Marketing' option but it's unavailable now so I can't confirm.

In either case, be direct and be honest: You're thinking of buying a Fold5 and would like a loyalty code please.

      • +23

I prefer the "Harry Bolt from oz bargain told me to talk to you guys.. so here i am. " approach.

      • Just chat to them and they won't give $100 discount

        • Did they give a reason for the $100 discount not given?

          • @isaiah247: they just say they don't have any promotion like that right now. I was able to get the 10% loyalty discount code from a different rep earlier this morning though. Waiting to be transferred to sales now and see if that will work

        • which option to choose on the chat ? product/order/support?

          • @CyberMurning: I just typed in Agent, talked to one of them, and they were only offering me $10 voucher and not a $100 if I'm doing the trade in/up for the fold 5. They otherwise offered me 15% of discount code not stackable with trade in phone, not sure if it'll stack with the other codes.

      • For 10% loyalty code via email, Do you know what to do if they want to talk to you over the phone and asking for IMEI or S/N?? Why do they want to call me…? :(

        • You can say you perfer to be contacted by email instead

    • +5

      Ye

      Newsletter $50: https://shop.samsung.com/au/sign-up
10%off - Live chat or you can call/email them: https://www.samsung.com/au/support/contact/#onlinesupport
Not sure how to get $100 ahah

  • tradeup app? I cant find it in app store, how to do that?
also samsung shop app. im using IOS

    • +2

      TradeUp is unavailable on iOS.

  • -1

Do you mind show me the final invoice? After calculation,it ends up around $1,148 ?

  • +1

For reference, my total at this point is $1,382.
    5. Apply your 10% loyalty code.
    6. Apply your $100 loyalty code.
    7. Apply your $50 newsletter code.

    1382*0.9-150=1093.8?

    • It must be 10% off the RRP or something, not the cart at that point.

Try removing all of your vouchers and reapplying. I have a screenshot in checkout, give me a minute.

    • Need the Samsung shop app. That gives you 10% additional for first time app use..

  • Holy crap… I spent $2199 on this, with a trade-in, only a few days ago.
The trade-in promo went from $400 to $600 in only a few days :(

Their change of mind return policy says:

"Eligible consumers can request an exchange or refund of their Mobile Product if they change their mind after purchase, providing that they submit a request to Samsung within 14 days of delivery and their Mobile Product is unused and in a re-sellable condition (e.g. the packaging is unopened, the seal is intact and all in-box items are in the box)."

Not sure if that's me out of luck since I've been using it for the last 24 hours…

    • +1

Buy this and return as the first ?

      • +2

        They'd have the IMEI logged.

      • +3

Don't do this, Samsung may track IMEI. Sell instead.

        • whats the situation with returning a phone if Samsung log imei

      • +1

Lol, don't be the guy that bought two and blamed samsung for not accepting a return.

    • Initial thoughts on the phone - any good?

  • It doesnt work , $730 fold 4 + $1021 = $1085 due payment ???.
    The fold 5 512 gb blue = $1055 + $30.44 sd cards x 2 +$50 voucher = $1035 . So how much was your fold 5 ?

    • the 10% and 20% discount applied after your trade in value. in your case 730 fold 4 +500 bonus trade in.

  • Fold 5 sales are poor, many reviewers have dismissed this phone for not being innovative.
    They will come down.

    • +7

I wonder what innovation is expected by the reviewers other than it's already a Foldable

      • From fold 4 perspective I guess.

        • +1

Maybe.. the only difference I could find is that the Z Fold 5 sports a new hinge design with no gap, a slimmer and lighter body

      • +13

        Only when Apple introduces it.

      • I expected them to at least upgrade the camera from the Fold 4 - there is no change. They did not require R&D, they could have used S23U tech for cameras. Took a page out of Apple's playbook - drip-feed features to allow for (late) upgrades next year.

      • they didnt upgrade the camera

just the inner display and the gap and hinge

everyone expected them to at least put in effort on the fkn camera since the SOC was upgraded

i was hoping theyd make it thinner

theyre not going to do jack until they get real competition. No competition will arise unless theres adoption

adoption will be low unless the prices come down

        its a self fulfilling prophecy

  • Where does the 10% loyalty code come from?

    • Check the reply in the second comment.

  • I would jump on this right now if I had all the codes on hand. Sent the email & waiting for chat to open up tomorrow 🤞🏼

  • +1

Why the hell tradeup app gets messy always at the last step?

"Unable to process your payment. Please try again"

Any tips how to overcome this?

    • Interesting. That's one of the same error codes I got. I assumed I had been blacklisted for having failed to return a trade-in device in the past.

If anyone successfully completes checkout, please let us know.

    • +2

I think your address may be blacklisted. Try another address ie. Friends or family address under a different account. This worked for me before.
Also billing and delivery details need to match as well.

I gave up on Samsung now after they blacklisted my address.

      • ^^this one above. the asurion trade up app is locked tight. They've blacklisted users based on previously used IMEI or addresses. Interestingly the app doesn't tell you why and gives the generic error message. I realised whilst using the app that they have locked down most 'exploitative' use cases

        • Was the error also "Unable to process your payment. Please try again"? I tried using multiple different addresses but it didn't work. How did you get past it?

    • I can't even get that far, it won't let me select from dropdowns so I can't enter my address

      • Okay so using "Reset accessibility settings" in the phone's settings app allowed me to select my address.

    • Same. Even tried with my work address. Doesn't work.

    • getting same as well. bummer hopefully one of you figure it out

    • In my experience, it means the servers are overloaded. Try again later.

  • +1

Great find man, weird thing is that I can't seem to find the Samsung Shop on IOS

  • -7

    looks like its been ozbargained!
Tbh this is what a fold 5 should retail for…..way way way behind Oppo/Honor etc on hardware design.
Samsung got lazy and Samsung got greedy IMO.

    • Thanks for the heads up. I did not know

  • +1

Anyone able to get Trade-up to work?

  • Tradeup App is not working.

  • "Thank you for using the Samsung Shop App! Here's 10% off your first purchase."

Says at the top but doesn't actually give me a code or apply it at checkout..

    • Also 50 voucher applied but didn't affect final price

      • Newsletter vocuher only works if you are logged in the Store with the same email address you registered to get the code

        • Yep it was the same email address

    • No code is visibly applied but price does gets reduced 10% if you observe closely

      • It didn't bring me to the same total as OP though.

        • Op has applied multiple codes/discounts, you need to follow all steps to achieve the same/similar price

          • @keepsmiling: Yeah i did.
The only thing that didnt come through is the 10%.
Even though it said it would apply.
            App seems very glitchy

  • +1

Has anyone gotten the 10% loyalty code to apply?

    • No…not working

    • Did you receive the email response for 10% loyalty code, and how long did you wait for that?

  • Has anyone got this to work?

  • +2

Anyone have any luck with the Trade-Up app? Keep getting the payment error as well.

    • I have the same error

    • +1

Same. Waiting until business hours in the hope the bug is fixed.

    • Same.

    • Doesn't work for me either.

    • Yes.

  • It just proves that you never buy at launch and wait for a few months

    • +2

That's always the case the early adopter/fan boi tax
