are futu ok now? they dont sell refurbs as 'brand new' anymore?

      • +11

thank you that totally answers my question

  • Can AirTag show location history for free? Where the AirTag has been today or in the last 30 days? Or do we need to pay subscriptions?

    • There's no built in way to do it, but there are third-party methods, for example

  • Can these help me track my elderly in-laws?

    • +1

Kinda, relies on people in your in-laws vicinity to have iPhones on them at the time of tracking.

    • If the tag owners isn’t around it will keep beeping as in “I’m here find me”
Elderly in laws may not even hear the beep
Others in their vicinity may be annoyed

man i bought these and they're rubbish, i returned them, always searching for signal, hard to really find a use for them.

    • +1

thanks man, saved me a purchase.

    • You must have an android phone then

    • Which phone and what error?

      • iphone 13 and 14, they're garbage… apple said it's normal. If you don't have iphone's around no way for signal to pass through the back end network. we have about 4 iphones 14's in the house lol. temperamental for sure

        • its normal, i am doing food delivery and believe or not, in a poor area its useless where there is not many iPhone available, however in a rich area its instant trackable

is there something better - to put in the keyring or the wallet - misplaced around the house situation?

  • Thanks OP! Been waiting for a deal!

I have a few, one is in an obscure spot in the boot of the car in case I can't find it in a huge shopping parking area or it gets stolen. Despite all that metal around it the device works within the claims made for it. By which I mean Apple do not claim it can do real-time always-on tracking, if you want that you need a GPS-based device and a mobile network SIM/subscription, both of which cost rather more. Airtags are for finding things and so they only note the location periodically, and doco makes it very clear they rely on having an Apple device nearby for that to occur. It can be an iPhone, iPad or iPod and not on an ancient version of iOS. That's a huge number of potential receivers but certainly not a bullet proof solution. Plus in my case I won't see the car travelling down the road, but when it stops there is a fair chance it will be captured so if stolen I may well get an idea where its sitting or been dumped. So far when I've checked its often updated but does sometimes take many minutes. For finding things like keys left around the house these limitations are clearly ok.

I intend adding tags to my luggage when next travelling and once again in busy airports there should be plenty of receivers to tell me my bags have taken an unexpected route! I don't believe they are rubbish at all, you just need to understand the limitations of the technology which are clearly stated in Apple doco, at which stage they have a place in my life anyway. Depending on where and how many you buy they are around $30-50 each but the big plus is NO ONGOING COST after that. Anywhere/anytime tracking has a cost for the network subscription so it can send the location back to you. The ATUVOS device also looks good on paper and is cheaper, but will have the same limitations re needing contact with other devices if its away from you.

  • can i shove these in a suit case that is checked in?
has anyone actually modified it so it does not beep?
