Not bad EDC stuff for a decent price. Thanks OP.

Some more info on the Dime https://www.amazon.com.au/Gerber-Dime-Multi-Tool-Black-30-00…

      • oh right, thanks

I've had the Dime for ages. Personally wish I'd gone with one of the small leatherman tools instead, picked mine up for $16 from Amazon a while back, finish and quality nowhere near leatherman. Black finish came off, sharp frame edge, badly finished and blunt. Small leatherman I got for the Mrs car is much better although twice the price it's worth it for the quality (again, personally).

Yeah, the Dime feels like it's made of tin, not steel.

First time I ever used pliers they warped and the whole thing became unclosable.

Leatherman anything is more expensive than Gerber but is genuinely worth the price difference.

The (now discontinued) Squirt PS4 is the only small multi tool I've ever found that is worth having. My EDC is a Wave, must be 20+ years old at a guess, does everything I've asked of it. Obviously comparing these small ones to a larger MT is apples and oranges, but if in the market I'd go ebay and buy a used Squirt PS4 over this.

The scissors on one of my dimes snapped off at the base from just trying to pull them out. They were a couple of years old at that point but still

    • this is silver so no black paint

    • Never been impressed with Gerber quality. I know they cost a lot less than a leatherman but so is the quality.

      • i think its worth 40, but not its original price.. if you were to buy them seperatly now the knife is 25 and the other tool is 35 so 60 total.

      • Not only does Leatherman have better quality, but their warranty and support is good, too

        Buy once cry once

I was so sad when I lost my Wave+ during my first year as an electrical apprentice years ago. Sad times.

          • +1

            @Phlume: I've also lost a Wave+, so I guess I cried twice

      • I own 8 gerbers, 8 sogs, 2 leathermans plus some other random ones and I haven't noticed a huge difference in quality between these brands. I prefer gerber and sog because they actually innovate on their designs instead of recycling the same things in slightly different sizes. The little keychain gerbers are the only ones that are kind of shit, but the USA made ones are great. My background is in mechanical engineering and manufacturing if anyone cares.

    • I bought my partner a Leatherman Squirt PS4 years ago, but got myself the Dime since I couldn't justify the cost of another PS4 when I already carried a Charge TTi, plus I wanted the tweezers.

I disliked the Dime immensely. Horrible scissors, horrible blade, horrible screwdriver, horrible pliers. The tweezers were just ok.

I ended up getting the PS4. I'm sad they discontinued it. I would only buy a Dime if I didn't really have another choice and only needed it for 2 days.

The Paraframe is a horrible knife too.

A nice deal financially when compared to the cost of what's included separately, which means good find by the poster. It's just that both items are already overpriced by the company for how poorly they work.

The knife (Paraframe Mini) gets good reviews.
I have the Dime. Its an ok mini tool except for the knife, which is not sharp at all.
I also have a leatherman squirt PS4, which in many ways is better, but the scissor spring has broken, so I am still carrying the Dime.
Best features of the Dime are the Box cutter which I use often, the bottle opener doesn't need to be opened and works well and the scissors are better than the squirt.
All in All probably a good deal for both. I'd prefer the serated blade though.

    • My scissors spring broke as well ✂️😭

Personally I'd buy miniature multigrips or knipex pliers wrench, nail clippers and a Gerber EAB for an EDC.
But at more than double the price, hard to justify on these forums

The knife looks quite good, in case I have to chop down a rival alpha male

I'd recommend a Swiss army knife. Use mine all the time, swiss made steel and quality, does everything I need it to.

    • What do you do where you need to use your swiss army knife often?

      • +1

        Soldier in the Swiss army

  • I've had 2 dimes. one broken as the locking spline buckled while using the pliers. got a replacement and the two halves are slightly misaligned. Tweezers are too flimsy to be very effective. Box opener and bottle opener both good. Wish it was better because it's a by nice size.

  • Would the Swiss Tech Multi Tool be comparable to the Dime?
