  • Still have no idea what these things are good for.

I currently have them connected to:

        • An automated garage door opener, with a speaker in the garage to control it via voice command
        • Voice control the three Kogan fans I've got mounted in the kids bedrooms
        • Voice control the four Chromecast's in the back of each television in the house, for example tell it to play something from a streaming service
        • Voice control the robovac, tell it to start, dock, stop etc
        • Voice control the Sonos speakers in the house
        • Voice control the indoor LED lights on the kids beds and the outdoor LED lights
        • Voice control the multiple smart switches that I've currently got on the Christmas lights
        • Voice control the lights on my kids mirror in my kids bedroom.
        • Switch on and off the LED downlights in the house
        • Broadcast my voice through the speakers in the house, if I can't be bothered walking from one end to the other, to tell someone something.

Clearly this isn't for everyone, but there's a metric ton of uses for these things if you proactively use them.

I like having 1 in each room to play music in sync in every room in the house. Good for events, doing cleaning, chilling. Not the best sound quality in the world obviously but they dont need to be, when theyre in every room you can play them on low-med volume so they don't become distorted but its still loud because you have them everywhere.

Id never buy anywhere above this price because its just a small nice to have gimmick

The CIA use them to listen in on peoples conversations. They are also used to listen in on you and then "randomly" target spesific advertising at you for products to buy.

      • Proof? Advertisements are specific on what you are searching, looking.

The CIA use them to listen in on peoples conversations.

Why would the CIA would want to listen to me? And if that's applicable that means it's possible with most devices available.

To catch bad people. Before they do bad things.

      • They don't, but even if they did, would you rather see ads for products you couldn't care less about or ads for things that you might have an interest in?

At least "Tin Foil" is cheap to buy :-).

        • I ain't stupid. I wear my 5G hat to block the mind control radio waves.

@Wizard - You are correct, if people think that IOT devices are not being used by Government agencies world wide to listen to people, then more fool you.

Google has this 'we look after the user's privacy first' image but thats just a facade. Theres a good reason Governments dont bully Google into handing over information - because Google gets paid by Governments to hand over data with NDAs

I cast Audiobook from phone to it to fall asleep to. It sits on my bedhead. Handy for Alarm, nanonap timer, news summaries, etc.

    • The lazy.

  • Thanks op. Officeworks match..good for kids for bedtime stories

    • Agreed, bedtime stories, quiet music, casting the audio of bluey episodes…

mine (purchased a few years ago now) are very glitchy and work randomly. Getting errors like "there was a glitch" and "something went wrong". Anyone else having these problems?

    • Getting that this last year, very annoying, almost unusable

      • Very close to unusable.

    • Agreed, they have gone to crap. I did delete my 'home' and then moved to my devices into a new 'home'. This fixed the algorithm, but only for 6-9months.
