      Thanks for the prompt. Done.

@Frankies Beans is this the D64 Gen 2? Or which variant is it? Thanks!

        • It is Gen1

          • +1

@Frankies Beans: Sorry to bug you again, @Frankies Beans which variant of the Gen 1? Or just Gen 1 v1? The most common I think is v3.2 or there's a US v4 floating around I think?

LoL I think Coffee Tech needs to work on their model numbering a bit so there's less confusion

@syswong: @syswong sorry Santa left you a lump of coal! Maybe fix that poor attitude of yours and you'll get a better present next year ;)

There's actually quite a lot of variants with significant differences between them. If I'm dropping $550, pretty sure I get to know exactly what I'm buying, no?

                • -2

@mattkirkey: If you are dropping $550, you are sure only getting the gen 1 as OP replied.

In my opinion until u get to V5 the tweaks are rip offs. The V5 should be how it is when launch. Since you were wondering around 1,2 and 3.2, hence I say it’s the same.

I am glad I am not a DF64 customer cos I feel they miss some very basic feature. Espresso drinker may find it irreplaceable though.

            • +3

@mattkirkey: It is Gen 1 and it has the v3.2 declumper. Australian never received the v4 declumper as it was a step backwards compared to the v3.2 which was a modified version of the v3 for the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Every SSP burr option adds $300, so price in title is misleading

    • +1

Title was edited by moderators which I agree did not reflect the actual pricing. I have updated it so hopefully this eliminates any confusion.

Unless there is a lifetime warranty for the machine, what is the point of getting a SSP?

  • +1

"Upgrade" should be "Upgradeable" or use the word "optional".

  • Great price for the base grinder

I have a DF64E which includes a digital timer, plastic hopper, bellow, dosing collar and dosing cup. I imported mine for around $555. This is a good deal for local stock. I wish I had skipped the Breville Smart Grinder and gone straight for the DF64. The DF64 annihilates it.

Buy once, cry once. Generally applies to most things in life.

I think that is not a fair comparison. The DF64 sells for double the price of SGP. A closer comparison should be Eureka Mignon Specialita or something similar.

There is a lot of debate, reviews, youtube test on this argument and it will never end…..

For espresso drinker particularly specialise beans like the ones from ONA, I think the DF64 is necessary. The price of the beans makes the retention ratio of SGP simply unacceptable.

On the other hand for making milk drinks, Americano,…etc using cheaper beans like Aldi, Lavazza, or even the basic Campos, SGP is fine and a good choice at that particular price point. I do question anything that is cheaper than the SGP as those does not have enough control and has an even worse retention ratio.

SGP requires get clogged up easily, especially when on a fine setting, therefore it requires frequent cleaning. The DF64 is cleaner, quieter, faster, more powerful, more consistent and grinds finer. I have worn out my SGP, but I feel that my DF64 will last much longer. It’s easily worth double IMO.

First of all, without going to another endless argument / comparison, which is conical burr vs flat burr…. I think many people in this thread love flat burr. Hence all the defensive comment. While it is good for people who like to spend time to fine turn their grounds, flat burr introduces too much variable which you all may say that's the beauty of it. Quote what I said before, if I just want simple milk drink or americano using basic beans, it is an absolute pain in the ass. It is simple logic, why is most cafe using conical burr? Can I tell the difference of a shot pull by the boys at ONA and the cafe down the road? Of course. Am I really anal about it? No.

Like I said it depends on situation. I had use flat burr in many shops and yes they are cleaner but I also learn how to clean my SGP quick. The clogging isn't as bad as the Sunbeams. A few knocks got them out. At the end of the day, same few knocks with hopper out and the SGP upside down clear 80% of the stuff in the burr. Once a week (or even every two weeks) take the upper burr out and again flip it upside down and brush clean it. that's it. SGP is a product that is simple easy to use and produce a reasonable result at its price point. I don't have to worry about alignment, speed….etc nor do I care or expect these feature in a product that is half tor 1/3 of the price of a flat burr grinder.

  • Ordered seasonal coffee beans from Frankie couple of times and shipping was very fast, good coffee beans too.

  • How does this compare to the Varia VS3?

I realise the Varia’s DC but in terms of grind quality/results…

    • vs3 not even worth hating on?

      damn.

  • Dammit I paid $1299 at Frankie's for this a year or two ago!

  • Personally, I would skip the gen 1 DF64 and go gen 2 or even better the DF64V. The new DF83V is available for pre-order at a discounted price for anyone interested https://df64coffee.com/en-au/products/df83v-preorder

  • $590 v3.2 w/o SSP burrs from Alternative Brewing, so this is $40 cheaper
