Here are some camera recommendations if you are looking for alternatives to Eufy due to recent issues with privacy.

There's a possibility it might be about the whole thumbnail/preview icon for the videos being stored on the cloud when the devices were being advertised as completely offline. It's a bad look because they lost a ton of credibility but it appears to not really be 'insecure' as others are saying. This is my understanding of the situation anyway so those concerned can do their own research there.
This has been about a year ago though so not sure if another issue's popped up between this issue and now.

Virtually all consumer-grade CCTV brands are Chinese owned and made, so anyone purchasing Eufy, Dahua, Hikvision, Swann et al with expectations of privacy and security is clueless.
If you step up to professional-grade hardware from Ubiquiti (US), Axis (Sweden) or Bosch (German), then you'll definitely be better off security-wise (relative to Chinese state surveillance hardware masquerading as consumer products) but the cost premium involved will put off 9 out of 10 buyers.

Some of the Chinese products have questionable privacy practices and rely on unnecessary cloud connections, but others have been carefully examined by security professionals and proven to work entirely behind firewalls without "phoning home."
And while there's definitely some truth to "you get what you pay for" maxim, it's also true that some big brands trade on their reputation to sell overpriced products. Ubiquiti is a great example - they make great network equipment but their cameras are mediocre at best, and nowhere near as good as their high prices would suggest.

Yeah apart from the fact that numerous, well-publicised vulnerabilities have been found in both Hikvision and Dahua cameras, allowing for complete compromise/remote control of the majority of their products, with some of these vulnerabilities remaining unpatched for so long that cybercriminals began selling access to these cameras on the dark web. Together Hikvision and Dahua represent the majority of the consumer-grade CCTV camera market.
Not to mention that the FCC in the US banned the importation and sale of virtually all Chinese-manufactured CCTV cameras in 2022 with the UK and Australian governments removing all Chinese-manufactured CCTV cameras from government/military buildings in 2023.
To say nothing of the complicity of Chinese telecommunications companies in their nation's dystopian surveillance infrastructure and the mass imprisonment of ethnic minorities like Uyghurs, which Hikvision not only knowingly denied when internal documents showed they were fully aware of what their technology was being used for, but they also intentionally designed racial-profiling algorithms specifically targeted at identifying Uyghur people automatically. Hikvision is now even aiding Israel in their own efforts to replicate China's Orwellian CCTV network in the West Bank and other Palestinian territories.
Or the fact that Hikvision has repeatedly tried to disguise the fact that's it a state-owned Chinese company (see here as well).

Lol, citation needed that isn't a Hikvision/Dahua press release. Hikvision cameras have been proven to phone home to Chinese IP addresses immediately after being connected to the Internet.
Your generous assumption than 9 out of 10 ordinary consumers know what a firewall is, let alone how to properly configure one to stop their Chinese-made spyware phoning home is ridiculously naive.

There's nothing but truth to the assertion that cameras made by Chinese-stated owned corporations do not give a sh*t about consumer privacy or security, especially that of Western consumers.

At least they haven't been exposed as being criminally responsible in supplying the machinery of oppression to a tyrannical regime operating a nation-wide concentration camp network or helping other authoritarian regimes do the same abroad or trying to poorly conceal the fact that they're a state-owned corporation.

Yes you can set it that way, but it's only a small LED so don't expect it to light up the area.
Probably bad for battery life the more it turns on.

This is the non pro version. I suggest you get the 2c pro over this for better battery life and video quality. I bought the 2c pro refurbished (pretty much brand new) for $230
