Lexar Ares 2TB Gen 4 NVME SSD $135 + Delivery @ BPCTech

400

Looks like a decent drive.
Same specs as the Lexar NM790 for less money.
Gen 4 drive with TLC memory rather than the usual QLC at this price point.
Specs here from TechPowerup.

Have bought one to replace a PNY 1TB Gen 4 NVME drive (with much crappier speeds than this drive) I got last last July for $125. Amazing how much storage has reduced in price in the last 12 months.

This uses YMTC 232 layer flash and not the older 128 layer that goughlui is talking about. The new flash is good.

    This or Lexar NM790?

"Same specs as the Lexar NM790 for less money."

But what if price were the same, any difference at all?

        • +7

Ares is NM790, but with different packaging exclusively selling in China.
We were facing a shortage, stock allocation for Australia is not enough for us in Q4, So I took the allocation from China and shipped them here.
But it was just a very small batch mixed with NM790.
Same performance, same local warranty, but a more godly model number.
Personally I would prefer to call it Kratos 790 instead Ares

@Lexar ANZ Chris: Thank you for this, I guess I'll keep waiting for the nm790 version missed out on the $125 deal 😔

@Boxcuttahz: I'll remember this, if I can get retailer to hit this 125 again, I will come back here let you know firsthand.

          • @Lexar ANZ Chris: Thanks for the info mate. Happy I jumped on this deal.

And Merry Christmas to everyone here :D

  • Been waiting a while for a deal to jump on. This seems good enough for the kids PS5. Some games they got for Christmas wont fit on the internal drive.

What's the best software to migrate my windows os drive to this?

    • Probably Macrium Reflect or Acronis

      • +1

        Thanks will check them out.

  • Just picked one of these up. Fingers crossed it’ll run well. Planning on cloning my windows install onto it to make it my boot drive.

  • this is really nice, seems to good to be true, got it for ps5 already have heatsink ready.

  • @Lexar ANZ Chris I know the nm790 had issues on linux a little while back. Are these drives experiencing the same issues?

      Hi Scottie:

I personally not too sure about any linux issues, but I will feed your question to technical team.

pulled the trigger. been waiting a while for a decent deal and keep missing the better ones.
    this should suffice.

Techpowerup have the NM790 as their number 1 SSD.
    Not too shabby.

  • Anyone else get sent the wrong drive? Friend of mine who I recommended this deal to got one of the low end Lexar drives delivered instead of the two mentioned in the comments.

    • +1

That's concerning. I got my delivery yesterday but haven't opened the post bag yet. Will have a look tonight

      • +1

I am said friend, just made an OZ Bargin profile. They have apologised and I'm currently awaiting a return label to send back incorrect nvme and sending out the correct one ASAP
