Good deal. Thx op! As a eBay skeptic I’ve been surprised how much use I’ve got out of my $9.95 membership.

    • +75

What use have you gotten out of it? I don't even check eBay anymore when I want to buy something, I find it a huge waste of time.

      • +37

its great for buying expensive things. the coupons usually help make things cheaper than anywhere else eg laptops, computer parts, etc.. and stacking with gift cards is a plus

        • +11

          Camera lenses ✅✅✅

        • +7

I always forget the coupons even exist.

          • @AustriaBargain: Why? Any that you can use usually pop up in a section under the coupons button at checkout.

            • @dongltron: I guess I don't use eBay much. I'd have bought some essentials to save some money if I knew about them. Still not even sure where they are or how they work. Always get eBay Plus through some deal…

      • +16

I check it for most things I buy online. I’m often surprised about coupons that can be applied.

Usually stick to big shops like TGG or Bing Lee who have eBay stores…

I needed some descale solution the other day.

Bing Lee EBay was the equal cheapest, free shipping plus I could apply my $5 monthly discount.

        Worth it for $9bux

      • +26

@cheekymonkee97: Silly comment really and surprised you got so may plus votes.
Reason: As you stated "I don't even check eBay anymore when I want to buy something".
        So how would you know?

Ebay has an awful lot of stuff on there and a crap load mode that say Amazon which is more your run of the mill main stream items and not cheap. It is more like Aliexpress and a go to for most misc small items plus more. It has its place especially in Australia as we don’t have brick and mortar stores for many things e.g. small electronic components etc. Many small Australian businesses and individuals rely on Ebay to sell their products so I disagree with your sentiment and based on the amount I buy there.

        • +8

Amazon has normal products, but now seems to have just as much cheap junk on it now as eBay has, same sellers , and if you want that junk, cables and all that, get it on Temu or AliExpress and save 80%

          • +11

@Capitalshark: A lot of times Amazon sellers are more expensive than ebay for these small esoteric components and that's even before the $5 off $15 coupons. It's pretty handy for these small items.

            • +1

@boretentsu: It costs more to guarantee next day delivery I guess. Ebayplus so called express post has taken 2 weeks from western Sydney to south Sydney . Temu is quicker from china

          • +1

@Capitalshark: Yep AliEx is FAR cheaper for many things I look at on ebay. In those cases you're pretty much paying for the convenience of delivery timeframe and returns - something I've never had to do.

          • +2

@Capitalshark: Yeah I find AliExpress easier to navigate too (for cheep stuff), so many sellers on eBay listing items with misleading prices, makes it so frustrating sometimes

      • +7

Agreed, their discounts are fake as most participants inflate all their prices, it was good back when they had eBay Tuesday , now it’s a joke, I didn’t renew even with the $30 gift card offer

        • +5

I follow Chemist Warehouse's store. When they have their fragrance sales, plus eBay deals like $20 off min $50 spend, and free delivery, it's a great savings!
Plus, CW sales deliver really quickly for me too.

        • +1

Agreed, most discounts are fake. Also i have had a couple of fake products i have bought over the years on ebay and it is incredibly difficult to contact ebay about these issues and ebay are not bothered with temoving the sellers. Custoner service is non existant. That said. I have also picked up a couple of bargains but most small items I now just use Temu.

          • +1

@ozzieblue: While I accept you've had bad experiences with customer service, mine have been the opposite. Over the years I've had a few incorrect or faulty products delivered, and recently a pair of memory cards which were clearly fake and didn't work. In cases where the vendor was slow to provide an exchange or refund, I then contacted eBay who always got my refund agreed within a day, with the money returned in a few days at most.

So in my case one of the reasons I always compare eBay offers is their excellent service. I guess you've been unlucky there. Also mostly cheaper than Amazon when you add the delivery cost, though if you are desperate the latter can be faster. I have also bought a lot of cheap items on Temu but you need to batch them up to $30 total and delivery time is generally slow.

BTW I cancelled my eBay+ recently when it was about to renew and there were no cheap offers. I hoped for something new and sure enough saw the $9.99 a few weeks later. Similar to last two years and at that price I find it well worth it with the assorted discounts and monthly $5 coupons.

          • @ozzieblue: I too found the opposite. I had very good customer service from eBay. If I’m prepared to wait I can even get to speak to someone within certain hours.

In 2023, I had two disputes with sellers not sending items, after only 7 days I contacted eBay and maybe as.a plus member they acted fast and had the money back in my account within 24 hours.

In both these cases it seemed to be a bot or generic contact form and satisfaction survey but don’t eBay have a 30 day money back guarantee for everyone or only plus?

They’ve also paid for postage on several sales. I didn’t see the postage disappear until I actually paid for the item. I think this might have gone away now. Not sure.

            Apology for the long post

I do tend to stick to well known sellers but a lot of some of the bigger eBay sellers were small when I started dealing with them, like Wireless1 or Shopping Express.

But I do hate the jacking up of the prices when the sales start. That really gets up my nose. Not every sale but at least three in 2023 the price was cheaper before the eBay sale started.

The $5 vouchers are very limited where you can spend them - they should make them available anywhere.

I do deal with the bigger stores and often save $10-$20 on sub $100 items which I’ve tried in store at TGG and they wouldn’t budge.

It was better in the past but inow it can be hit or miss but I definitely saved close to $1000 in the past 12 months - and I cut back on buying stuff this year as well.

But got some hot deals on Sony Headphones Refurbished and some Apple Products from TGG so I know they are genuine. I’m considering the saving on the AirPods Pro 2nd Gen MagSafe plus USB-C if there are any left. But pissed me off that I waited for ages to get a good deal earlier this year and had to use a bunch of Ultimate Gift Cards to get them from Officeworks as everyone was saying sellers who I’ve bought stuff from before were selling fakes.

I’ve been caught by fakes in the past so first two questions to the seller

            1. are these genuine AU stock not grey market
            2. Will you give me a proper Tax invoice

If they don’t answer, then I have a list of sellers I have on my banned list that I won’t buy from. If you can answer two simple questions to a potentially buyer then you are a scammer. Also any Apple product I check the serial number immediately.

I just wish that the same seller didn’t have five stores with the same item and same page with five different prices. Not hard to tell when you are looking at a specific item but why? Can vary from $2 different go $10 different. Are they just just trying to hook people who aren’t looking at all the sellers? Just my experience in buying from eBay for at least 15 years, maybe longer.

      • +2

Same here. Plus you get no window for cancellation. I cancelled within minutes and was forced to wait 3 days for sellers who were still money hungry and refused to cancel.

Pathetic customer experience from eBay. Might've worked in 2001 when I signed up to them but not now.

      • Thats because Amazon popular on toilet paper lol

  • +3

targeted? i don't see the banner or promo. Haven't been a member for 3 months.

    • +1

What do you get when you click on Ebay plus at the top left? I get the $9.99 offer, but don't have any banners.

      • +2

Get this : Start a free 30 day eBay Plus trial*

        • Yeh you get 13 months basically, it will say the $9.99 after the trial.

          • +2

@mpoicc: okay yes, got the offer with the trial. thanks

          • +1

@mpoicc: Did this and it says my year membership ends 26 Dec 2024 in my email.

So I think if you get this deal there is no free month because it’s the yearly?

I’ve never used eBay Plus or the free trial before.

            • +1

@Oreostar: Yeah, ebay was showing me "1 month free, THEN 12 months for $9.99", then charged me instantly and set expiry date to Dec 2024.

  • +4

    Targetted I think?

    • Maybe not. I had to click the 'ebay plus' link at the top then click again on membership then the 9.99 deal came up.

  • +6

Got it. I cancelled my eBay plus in early December. Rejoined for 9.99 happy days!

  • +4

I only had $4.99pm option, but just went to deals and clicked on a random item that was for ebay plus. Then when it opens, click on join ebay plus under the price. Then I had monthly, yearly and this deal price

  • +20

For those not seeing the banner

I checked and couldn't see it either so I clicked on item with exclusive eBay Plus discount code.

It then took me to payment confirmation screen and automatically selected 9.99 for 1st year.

For reference I've only been off eBay plus for 1 month max.

  • +4

I think it's worth it at this price

    • +5

You get a $5 voucher on $15 min spend every month so two months you save $10 already if you usually buy stuff off eBay.

      • +2

Eligible items only. Usually it's eBay plus item only

  • +2

For the uninformed what benefits do you get?

    • +7

free express shipping on quite a few items, $5 discounts or something every month, coupon codes have higher % discounts, etc etc

      • Access to eBay plus Tuesday deals.

    • +2

I purchased it because they used to offer about 3 free postage labels per month, which is great as a casual ebay seller. It's dropped now to discounted postage deals but still worth it.
But what surprised me is the coupons!
I purchased some Spa pumps and managed to get about $100 cheaper than anywhere else online due to the ebay price and the coupons, then bought 2x dyson airwraps for christmas gifts and got them at $599 (when it was back to full retail everywhere else after black friday) off the official dyson ebay page, and got $50 off of each in coupons bringing them down to $549. Got all shipping notifications from dyson directly too…

The membership was paid for for me after 1 month due to the free-postage labels, but well and truly after the coupons!

  • new accounts get $9.99 for the first year as an option when signing up to the trial also.
You can then do the $30 voucher thing with going to cancel your subscription. (before your trial runs out. So it combines with the $9.99 year of ebay plus)

Did this on two accounts because I was making use of the $0 fvf promotion.

    • +1

      What is the $30 thing?

      • +4

It's been a while since I've done it, but basically you go through the motions of cancelling your subscription, it might ask if you really want to cancel a couple of times and when you think you're at the last step it will offer a $30 coupon if you stay - to be delivered after the annual subscription fee has been paid.

  • Says the deal is expired for me :(

  • +1

f memory serves me right, last year, there was a $10 per year and an instant $10 coupon, essentially making it free of charge. Will it be possible to have something similar this or next year?

  • Thanks OP.

  • -1

Got that about a month ago. Dunno

  • -6

Got caught out paying shipping to 6210 using ebay plus. Cancelled.

    • +3

What are you even on about?

      • 6210 is likely his postcode?

        • I figured as much.
It's the entire thing that makes no sense.

      • +2

        Unsure of their example, but I have had this experience;

Wanted to buy printer ink. EBay plus added $29.98 shipping cost. If I had no eBay plus it was free shipping.

  • +2

Thanks! Any reason not to cancel straight away so it doesn't auto renew?

    • this, can someone share their exp?

    • Have you cancelled? Where to go to cancel it, can't find.

      • +4

found it, check captainmac's post below:

captainmac 7 hours 29 min ago

Yes! The process is simple, barely an inconvenience!

Click your name top left > click on your account settings > click on subscriptions > click cancel subscriptions > edit membership > cancel membership > see the prompt that says something (After 25 December 2024, you won't be able to access the following anymore) then click cancel anyway > they will tease you with a gift certificate for like $30 IF YOU STAY but you click NO thanks!

To confirm: Click your name top left > click on your account settings > click on subscriptions > instead of "Next payment 25 December 2024" you should see "Membership ends 25 December 2024" or a year later to whatever date you signed up.

        • thanks, cancelled :)

        • You are the real MVP, thank you for writing this up.

  • Thanks and still working….

  • +1

Warning to other with active accounts.

Cancel but your yearly sub remains. Wont get the $9 offer. I think only for those with inactive or free trails.

Those with on yearly subs, Probally best if you just cancel before your expiry and get $30 coupon.

    • +3

I cancelled about a week before my subscription expired in early November. After expiry I didn’t see the $9.99 offer straight away, so I waited a while (maybe three weeks - can’t recall exactly) and then it appeared for me again. It’s already paid for itself twice over with coupons.

  • Have not used eBay plus in some time and no Banner for me on mobile… yes i ebabled desktop site, i just don't see that specific banner.

  • Thanks OP

  • Nice can finally have a excuse to join and now get the $50 join up voucher, $10 for $50 not to bad

  • -1

Not impressive deal compared to this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/793665

    • +1

Just wait for the promo to come up then join for $10 that's the best way to fo

  • Do we get a $5 voucher instantly after opting for this $9.99 deal?

    • +1

No, they get sent at the beginning of each month. If you join now you might not see it till next week at the earliest.

  • Says $9.99 for your first year but I had it the entirety of this year until December basically and I was still able to claim the deal.

  • I get "technical difficulties"

  • +4

Not seeing it on my ebay main page. Targetted or expired.

  • Thanks reminded me to cancel my membership. Accidentally cancelled without activating $30 offer. Oh well

  • Thanks OP. Great value as you get at least $5 off every month.

  • I joined for free for the last 3 yrs using the same account. Well actually I earned some from them by joining eBay plus for free.

  • Anyone know if you can join then cancel before the auto-renew date and still receive benefits for the full year period? Trying to avoid forgetting about the auto renew for next year

    • +4

      • Thanks. Do this after trial ends?

    • -2

Surely you have a calendar on your phone or computer? Make an alarm for when it’s due. Geez.

    • +2

That's the only way I run my Ebay Plus! Join up on a 'deal', then cancel the next day. It'll give you a cancellation date 364 days into the future. Never ever leave Ebau Plus as an auto-renew, ever.

  • Could not see any banner but clicked the join eBay play link, was offered the 9.99 annual limited time deal in the sign up, right above the $49/yr option.

  • +1

Really should have posted this when I saw it a couple days ago. Heck

    • +1

      Always share, it helps others.

      • +1

True - didn't think it was particularly useful based on previous similar deals posted.

  • damn my yearly expiredy in April 2024.
guess i cant take this and extend for another year from april 2024-april 2025?

    • +2

Nup. Amazon lets you stack membership…. Ebay does not.

  • Just purchased it using the Special card via Amex deal. So it works out $9 for a year for me.

  • Following the advice, I clicked "Try it free" in https://www.ebay.com.au/vlp/ebayplus.

According to what the screen read, it was supposed to be a month free, THEN 12 months for $9.99, but charged me instantly and shows expiry dah exactly 1 year from now in https://www.ebay.com.au/ebayplus/home.

    Just ebay's little scams.

  • Thanks Op, re-joined

  • +2

Thanks OP, can't complain for $10

  • Thanks

  • +4

For those who can't see this offer: Click whatever offer you see (I clicked $4.99/month). After clicking you should see a special offer of $9.99/year.

  • Cool, thanks op.
