  • Anyone used these portable induction cookers? Are they a good addition to a small gas burner stove top? We find we run out of space when have 2 large pans on

    • +2

I'm using the xiaomi smart induction which should have similar functions. It is very good, I can't go back to other cookers now, heats up fast as all induction does, the temperature control is quite accurate, I use it to poach chicken at 70C, only annoying thing is you have to set it up in the app first, wish they could just integrate it so you can choose the cooking temp you want.
Most cooking is done around 20-40, simmering 1-3, you only need 99 when boiling water or doing stir fry.

    • I not sure about this brand, but I got the Breville The Quick Cook. I highly recommend it, it heat up the pot faster than the gas stove. Only issue would be the running cost, if you don't have solar panel.

    • +2

Have this exact model. Really good addition to a gas stove. I went with this one specifically because of the fine power control, much easier to precisely control simmering etc.
Fairly quiet, has a fan but if you have a range hood on it's barely noticeable.

Do we need an android app installed to control this or can cook without using the app as well?

        • +3

You can cook without it, it's only if you want to have specific temperature that you have to use the app

  • Has anyone found and specs on this? Max current draw?

    • +1

The non smart version is 2100w so I would think this is the same

      Level 1 = 100W
      Level 2-20 = 100-500W
      Level 21-40 = 500-1000W
      Level 41-70 = 1000-1500W
      Level 71-99 = 1500-2100W

just get the choice top rated one from ikea or the Westinghouse model. Those ones seem cheaper than this one

Recognised this Induction Cooker, from good review (link in Deal Description).

Good for fine power control, precise control of simmering (100W min).
Simmer control is a real problem on the cheapies - switching on & off with temp rising & falling, rather than maintaining temperature.

Glad to see a Deal on it.

  • What the difference between this and ~$50 ones at Aldi / Kmart / BigW?

    • +1

Difference is noticeable using on low heat.
The cheapies turn the heating on & off when simmering, rather than maintaining more constant low temperature.
Its quite noticeable - liquid starts bubbling, then stops for seconds and so on.

At high temperature, expect basic operation will be similar between cheapies & this.

Have been using a Spotlight cheapie for years (~$25 with discount). Works great at high heat settings. Happy with it, but considering upgrading / having a 2nd one for simmering.

I cook in cast iron cookware. That evens the temperature changes when simmering.

Coincidentally my parents bought the Aldi one from the last deal and messaged me today saying it crapped itself and trips the breaker as soon as they try to turn it on. At least that one's easy to return.

    A warning before purchase.

No complaint about its performance. Its constant linear power is possibly the only one in its price bracket, truly in a class of its own. But the fan failed in the first week. Found a review on productreview with similar problem reporting seller calling it 'normal' and refusing to replace and refund. I made a similar video and contacted the seller with exactly the same replies. This seller would try every trick not to provide warranty, even though it's a known fire risk to customer's safety and properties. The seller won't even provide his name and position when requested.

The seller appears to be from Chunmi Technology (Hong Kong) Limited, supposed to be making the Xiaomi version of the induction cooker. But this seller has no physical presence in AU, UK and US. They operate in exactly the same way as dropshippers (The delivery is from Union Lucky Returns).

The seller's business conduct is predatory, criminal and fraudulent under AU/NSW laws. This is now with PayPal resolution. Regardless of the Paypal outcome, I will report this to NSW Fair Trading and ACCC Product Safety.

    Caveat emptor.

FYI. Seller agrees to refund if I return the item to the following address at my own cost.

18501 Arenth Ave, City Of Industry, CA 91748 USA

  • This looks very similar to the Xiaomi one, is it possible it's a white label?

I've wanted a Xiaomi one but didn't want to use a plug adapter

    • +2

Linked productreview states it came with a crappy travel adapter. Suggests this doesn't come with an AU plug.

      • Ah cheers, good looking out 👍🏽

        • Got no personal experience and the review was a year old, so possible they now have an AU cable? Some mixed reviews on Amazon to though and the info there suggests it comes with a UK plug. Doubt it's actually 100% true though as UK plugs are fused and I doubt this is.

Anyway, far more concerning would be the review that states some water got in their controls. In terms of usability, flat capacitive controls suck, but from a safety and cleaning perspective, you can't really beat them.

      • Thats the other model which states in the listing it has a EU plug with adapter. The Pro from the OP link is the AU version with proper AU plug.

    • +1

The pro model comes with proper insulated AU plug. (https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/702/109451/tokit.jpg)

Yeh Tokit (Chunmi) manufactures some kitchen items for Xiaomi. It's the same thing, I was able to add my Tokit to the Xiaomi app (Aus/Singapore server only though)

  • Is there a xiaomi one with aus plug from AliExpress?

    • Shipping is a killer on them from AE (and I don't think they have AU plug)

  • Apparently au.tokitglobal.com and lifeiteglobal.com are owned by same merchant.
