    Got one. Cheers.

I've wanted one for ages. Weeds going nuts ATM.

    • +10

      Weeds going nuts

      Yeah, nutgrass is the worst.

      • +8

Any solution for nut grass! They grow everywhere including where there is hardly any soil hahaha. You pull em out, the nut under surface spreads and off they go again!

        • +1

          Boiling water maybe ,
I think the only solution to nutgrass is to dig it out and up .
Sometimes you can get lucky though if yo spot it early , using every conventional method ie. everything you know immediately nuke it from orbit , to be sure (method)

        • glycophosphate?

          • +1

@John Doh: No that does not work. The only eradication is a group B herbicide. Both Amgrow and Monsanto have ones that work well. Amgrow is called 'Sledgehammer' and the other 'Sempra' both have Halosulfuron-Methyl Herbicide as active ingredient. Not cheap but at 1.3g/ 100m2 spread rate or 130g /hectare it is economical. Cost around $120/ hectare. Never returns.

            • @Thunderdownunder: Glycophosate will kill everything it touches. I had good success with it in the front yard where nutgrass grew though pebble covered ground. Unfortunately I cant use that stuff on lawn and I tried David grays and that thing even kills the couch grass even at lower power.

        • +3

Don’t pull them out as it spreads. Paint the tips with Roundup using a small brush or use Sledgehammer.

        • +3

          Halosulfuron. Sedgehammer or other generic.

        • I've used Sempra with great success.
Kills nutgrass and leaves lawn grass untouched

        • +1

If you use a herbicide - make sure you also mix in a surfactant to help it adhere to the waxy coating the nutgrass leaves have.

        • Smoke it

      • +2

What @NigelTufnel said! Get some generic Halosulfuron-Methyl (hit up local ag suppliers). Cheaper than Sedgehammer, has the same active and is safe on lawn grasses (painting them with Glyphosate is very time consuming).

        • Hey mate. What do you mean by local AG suppliers?

          • +1

            @lordra: Agricultural suppliers

            • @deloid: Ah, thanks mate, I'm in NSW so will google. Flower power doesn't count, does it?
Not keen on $65 for that product.

              • +1

@lordra: Something like https://www.pestrol.com.au/buy-online/herbicide-apparent-hal… - depending on how big the infestation is, even 25g goes a long way

                • @deloid: Thanks for this link!

                • @deloid: Thanks for the info. Any recommendations for killing carpet grass in what seems to be common couch?

                  • +1

@bio: Edit - Metsulfuron Methyl based ones will also work, but price-wise Kamba M may be more economical.
Kamba M should work (may need a few applications). I know DSMA-based herbicides work, but from memory they're not as easy to get now. Could be wrong about that.

                    • @deloid: Thanks for your reply. I asked because this page claims that it is "tolerant of diclofop-methyl, halosulfuron-methyl, MCPA + dicamba mixes (these vary, check individual labels). Susceptible to bromoxynil and DSMA." but as you said DSMA is hard to find these days and bromoxynil didn't seem to hurt it. I guess I'll try Metsulfuron Methyl.

  • Thanks for this, was considering the Bunnings offer, but this works great with free shipping.

    • +5

Doesn't have 25 years warranty like the Fiskar one though.

  • +5

Thanks. Cancelled Bunnings and got this instead with discounted gift cards - decent reviews with free delivery. Better than the sale@hoselink for $43.74 https://www.hoselink.com.au/products/stand-up-weed-puller?va…

    • +1

I would have stuck with the Bunnings one. 25 years warranty vs only 1

      • +1

it actually is 25 yrs - confirmed with Bunnings. Will keep both now. Can never have too many tools!

        • Hoselink website only says 1 year warranty. Did you get in writing it is actually 25 years? I might pick one up as a spare if that's the case.

          • @cute as duck: $20 more for 5 years warranty seems like a great deal. Just save the invoice in the cloud

        • The hoselink one is also 25 yrs warranty?

  • +1

    Massive deal, purchased!

  • +5

Bought at Bunnings, will cancel that

  • Thanks, bought!

  • These any good? Got a bit of paspalum grass i want to get rid of. Only part I dont like is the bunnings ones seem to have good warrantys while this is only 1yr.

  • Getting an error "your delivery now time you have selected has closed" but I haven't selected a time? Any work around for this?

    • +1

Gotta use the Woolies app, not the Web browser.

  • +8

I got one of these. Bit useless imo, and I managed to bend it such that it no longer works.

    • Really that weak is it? Honestly don't know this is better than normal weeding tools.

How the heck you bend it?

      • +7

I was trying to pull a really big stubborn weed. The weed won.

        • Maybe try when the soil is wet?

        • +8

It's not the weed that's stubborn then.

        • Hmm maybe don't do so with too much force but I thought this thing is steel

        • +1

I was actually out in the garden today and thought I'd try emailing Hoselink about my broken weed puller. 6 months out of warranty, they offered to give me a replacement if I pay the postage.

Will remember to only use this for less stubborn weeds next time.

  • +2

Anyone compared this with fiskars? Is it durable?

    • I have the same question

    • Had mine for 3 years. Been sitting outside mostly as I'm slack and other than a bit rust, still works fine.

Great for weeds like crowsfoot that had a good identifiable centre and take some effort pulling.

  • +42

Ordered one even though I don't have weeds. Or a lawn.

    • +2

      This is the way.

    • +5

      OzB+ cert. granted!

    • +1

do the nature strip, neighbours will love you for making neighborhood nice or hate you for shaming them for not keeping neighborhood nice.

    • I was thinking of saving it for when/if I ever get to owning a lawn but that dream will probably stay a dream for a long while. Will gift it to a mate instead.

    • Very nice.

  • +3

Only 12 months warranty while the bunnings one has 25 years. Too late now can’t cancel

    • This is assuming you still have the receipt? Which I’m so bad at keeping, that’s my New Year’s resolution to get my shit sorted and logged correctly so then I can utilise such things as 25 year warranty 🤦‍♂️

      • +7

You can download Bunnings app and create an account, then scan your QR code in store, the receipt will saved in your account.

      • +5

I've emailed fiskars before and they don't check proof of purchase

        • to send you a replacement coz it fked up?

      • +5

You wouldn't need the receipt, the company would need to be at least 25 years old before the could reject yo…

"Fiskars was started in 1649, and today is one of the oldest businesses in the western world."

        • wow thats awesome then :)

        • +5

My 1649 built weed puller is going strong anyway so its all good.

  • I bought one even though I have a Fiskars already 😳

  • +1

You peeps wouldn't have survived in the good ol' days

    • Gloves would do it !

    • +1

There are always ways to make life a bit easier.

    • -1

      Username checks out

  • +2

Buy a gift card for 4% off and it's neatly $35.00

  • Bunnings used to sell a Saxon verson, I think in the teens.

  • +1

Just here to say these are amazing.

This combined with a good stirrup hoe is all you will ever need for you weed pulling needs.

  • +1

Wouldn't weed killer spray be better than this for 150sqm lawn?

    • +2

      Define better?
Obviously not 'better' for the environment as a lot a week killers impact insects and other ground organisms.
But also depends on how many weeds are in the 150sqm lawn. If it's just the odd one here and there these are easier that mixing up weed killer and dealing with spraying things that way (and probably more effective depending on the weed killer).

If it's covered in different weeds, then yeah, weed killer's probably the better first plan of attack.

  • +13

here's hoselinks supplier & Fiskars supplier, should just do a ozB group buy on alibaba lol

    • +1

Add import charges, shipping charges, GST, then postage to people in australia.

      Will cost more $30

      • Add … postage to people in australia.
        Will cost more $30

        Pretty much…

I wonder how much shipping for just a sample is? US$20 for one before shipping.

    • Damn the hand tools are like 2 usd damn

    • Nice. How did you 'dig' that up?

      • +1

just right click the image "search image on google" then look for the closest match

    • I wonder if that actually is Fiskars supplier - or one that has copied Fiskars?

      • all major companies source most of their stuff from china then just stamp their name on it, fiskars has atleast attempted to change it up a bit in their own colors, hoselink is just shipping it with no change

  • Contemplating if I should cancel the Bunnings one and get this. Thoughts?

    • +1

      Why not both?

    • i got both at the prices they are - $90 all up. Fiskars has 25 yrs warranty so will come in handy - will use the hoselink one first.

      • +1

Got the Hoselink one too now!

      • +3

Assuming 25 yrs is infinity, infinity + 1 = infinity, why bother the second one?

      • going it’s fiskars 25 year warranty and bunnings returns …. also, looks like steel shaft instead of aluminium, might just be picture.

  • +1

I have a synthetic lawn and still get weeds popping through. Is it safe to use the weed puller without damaging the artificial grass

    • I doubt it. It leaves a decent chunk.

If you have an artificial lawn, spray them.

    • Use chemicals, don't use boiling water.

      • Does vinegar actually work?

        • +5

          On chips, yes.

      • Why boiling water does not work on artificial turf? Curious to know this, thanks

        • +1

it doesn’t heat up the weeds long enough to kill them, dirt chills the water so roots survive, you just wilt the leaves

    • Sorry, but, hahahahahahaha

  • Which one is better between this and the burning one in terms of quality and ease of use?

    • I would say the Friskars is better quality based on it being backed by 25 years warranty vs only 12 months for the Hoselink

      • I'm thinking of paying $20 extra for the warranty against my small lawn

  • I got mine from the last deal, liking it so far.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/814184

However , I can't find my invoice anywhere.

  • I was tossing up between this and the Fiskers one but that Fisker's 25 year warranty is too juicy to give up despite being an extra 20.

  • +1

Poor construction, mines broke after a few weeks. I bought a cheaper cyclone one from bunnings that has a sturdier lever and has been working alot better.
