I hate how these kind of deal will screw spending criteria for future bonus points.

Using burner flybuys account is recommended

    • True! Didn’t think of that. Will probably make a second account then haha

    • How so? Not sure what you mean

      • +8

As in let's say Flybuys is currently sending you offers like spend $80, get 2000 points because that's how much you normally spend on groceries. But then you buy a $500 gift card in this deal and suddenly the offers start becoming spend $200, get 3000 points because they think you're a big spender.

      • Yeah so I bought all the prepaid visa cards and my weekly shop deal went from 2000 points for 60 dollar spend to 2000 points for 250 spend or something

  • +4

Does it include variable load versions?

    • +5

Update: Does include variable load versions.

  • Does anyone know what denominations airbnb comes in?

    • +1

I believe Coles stocks $100 and $20-500 variable load Airbnb gift cards.

  • Are the restaurant choice GC just eftpos or visa? I just wanna know if I can add it to my apple pay

    • +4

That depends on which card your store has in stock. What you want is the newer Visa version of the card.

      • Thanks for the image, I remember last time I grabbed one off the shelf and it was eftpos only. I’ll look out for the one that says visa

  • When was the last time we had a X% off Ultimate Eats card? Used to be common having 15 or 20% off last time…

Now it seems to be just 20x EDR / Flybuys bonus (which equates to 10% off if converted to discounts / gift cards).

Apologies for the long post but this may help others on the journey of buying the Celebration cards under this offer

Finally managed to purchase multiple Celebration cards from Coles today to pay for a Luxury Escapes holiday

What a saga it’s been though. First Coles says you can only buy 5 cards a day to stop scammers (so I got the “warning” every purchase delivered with varying degrees of enthusiasm) - the Celebration cards only came in $100 & $200 multiples. Logic in the discussion about the artificial limitation on numbers wasn’t possible so I simply went back through different registers and self checkouts 5 different times to purchase the 24 cards I needed (also remembering to limit the amount on one Fly Buys account to $2500)

Of course that meant my AMEX also got flagged for multiple gift card purchases so was declined - so multiple calls to Amex to get that working again were required

So then it’s time to book my Luxury Escapes holiday - no it’s not that simple as the Celebration card redemption process turns into a nightmare with multiple agents not knowing how to redeem them to pay Luxury Escapes (it’s not a one step process and they have to enter them in and then turn them into another type of Luxury Escapes gift card to be able to use them) - I finally found an agent there who was prepared to work at it to add them to my account (hats off to her as she did the process required to utilise them for each of the 24 cards)

Finally my overseas holidays booked - for me it was worth it for the bonus Fly Buys which I’ve transferred to a couple of velocity accounts and with the valid I ascribe to Velocity points it works out at a 26% discount off my holiday - so it was worth all the hassle in the end

    • Why didn't you just buy Luxury Escapes gift cards?

      • They didn’t have any of the Luxury Escapes specific gift cards available at the Coles stores I went to - only the Coles specific Celebration cards

    • How on earth did you get to 26% value, best I'm seeing here is 10%? (2000 FB points = 1000 velocity points)

      • As I said that’s based on the value I ascribe to Velocity points when redeeming them for International Business Class flights (average equivalent value against retail priced equivalent flights). The availability of Business awards on Velocity partner flights is very good these days especially when compared to Qantas
It’s only 10% if you convert them to Coles vouchers 2000 points to $10

    • How many fb points did you receive with the $2500 gift cards?

I have a luxury escape holiday booked too and it is $5000 for the family.

      Thanks

      • +1

$2500 will give you 50,000 Fly Buys which can be converted to 25,000 Velocity points

If you want to spend $5000 at Luxury Escapes just open up a new Fly Buys account (not linked to to your Fly Buys account though as the $2500 limit is per account not per card)

If you do that and are happy to convert Fly Buys to Velocity you can setup Auto Transfer to Velocity and then Family Pooling to your Velocity count to centralise the benefits

  • I swapped mine to Luxury Escapes egiftcards per the instructions on the Celebration giftcard website: https://exchangecelebration.com.au/Faqs

“The Coles Celebration Cards are a range of physical gift / eGift cards that are exchanged here for a participating merchants e-gift(s)
Step 1. Visit the Exchange website www.exchangecelebration.com.au enter your Coles Celebration card number, Expiry and CVV located at the back of the card underneath the scratch panel.
Step 2. Select your e-gift card/s of choice, from the list of participating merchants.
Step 3. Once you've checked out and confirmed your order, you'll receive an email with your e-gift selections.
Step 4. Now you can redeem your e-gift cards at the selected merchant/s, either instore or online.”

If there’s no expiry date on your physical card, the website will suggest an expiry date (once you type the correct card number, CVV and start typing in the expiry date field).
Would have been faster claiming $500 Luxury Escape giftcards, but none were available.

Coles donates 2% of the purchased Celebration giftcard value to Beyond Blue, so at least a worthwhile charity benefited from my efforts too

    • That’s great you were able to do that but I couldn’t get past the first step on this process as the PCN number on the card was 3 digits too long to fit in the field on the Exchange site

The expiry date I was told to use was 12/29

None of the stores I went to had the specific Luxury Escapes gift cards so I had to use the Coles Celebration option

      • +1

You do not use the PCN to access the exchange portal. You instead use the 16-digit Visa card number printed on the back of the Celebration gift card.

        • Yes I know that now but the Luxury Escapes agent didn’t know that either and she seemed certain and checked that it was the PCN to be used

  • I bought Airbnb gift cards yesterday and scanned my Flubuys as well. I still haven't received the points. Does anyone know how long they take to credit the points?

    • +2

You should receive the points around 4:30pm Sydney time today. That is standard for when you receive points from all instore purchases at Coles.

There is a chance that it may take an extra day or two for points to be credited, but that is unusual.

      • +1

        Thank you very much.

        • Did it come through?

    • +1

My Fly Buys points posted just over 24 hours after my purchases - so the next day

    • do you know if you can use multiple Airbnb gift cards on 1 booking? (because max Airbnb GC is $500 and i want to book something for $1500 for example so can I split payments?)

      • +1

Yes you can. Just add all the gift cards to your account.

      • +1

        Yes you can

  • I believe celebration $100 gives u 20x as per the catalogue? The store had 20x label on $200 as well but the staff wasnt sure.

    Any views?

    • Celebration $200 gets 20x Fly Buys as well - I just did 22 of them and got the points!

  • Also does anyone who if officeworks has any limitation on using multiple giftcards? Do we get 10x points as there is an offer in flybuys app for officeworks when you pay using GC!

    • +2

This is answered in the FAQ linked towards the bottom of the deal description.

  • +2

For anyone interested, I used the shopback supermarket visa card to pay for gift cards from a prior deal and it worked so a bit more savings

  • +1

Thanks @WookieMonster appreciate your views as always.

Any luck on the 10x flybuys points using gc as payment method?

    • That should be fine, because you would be using gift cards as a payment method, and there is nothing in the bonus points deal terms and conditions that talks about exclusions related to gift cards.

  • I bought 2 x $500 airbnb cards but i keep getting an error "We are having trouble redeeming your giftcard. Please contact us for help." I read the airbnb customer service is very poor reading comments on other websites. Any suggestions?

  • I accidentally purchased several older version $100 Celebration physical gift cards with the Deliveroo logo (rather than Officeworks logo) in-store at Coles today. I was hoping to use this gift card to purchase an iPhone at Officeworks. I suspect I can still use this gift card at Officeworks since the logos shown on the card are overruled by the prevailing list of retail participants set out on the Celebration website which includes Officeworks (Deliveroo is no longer a partner). Appreciate if anyone is able to confirm this please or has experience with this?

Alternatively, am I able to swap these at Coles for the Officeworks Celebration version (even though they are activated) or swap them for Officeworks eGift cards through https://exchangecelebration.com.au/ ?

    • +1

I suspect I can still use this gift card at Officeworks since the logos shown on the card are overruled by the prevailing list of retail participants set out on the Celebration website which includes Officeworks (Deliveroo is no longer a partner).

Your suspicions are correct. The source of truth for participating retailers is the Celebration gift card website, not the front of the Celebration gift card.

If you are wondering the reason some Celebrations gift cards have Deliveroo instead of Officeworks printed on the front, it is because Celebration gift cards are manufactured in batches (although Blackhawk Network - the gift card issuer - confusingly calls it “versions” rather than “batches”), and participating retailers can change after a gift card is manufactured. The only batches I have seen are August 2021 and June 2022, but Officeworks was only added to the Ultimate gift card scheme in September 2022 (and I suspect Officeworks was also added to the Celebration gift card scheme at the same time).

Appreciate if anyone is able to confirm this please or has experience with this?

I have purchased numerous Celebration gift cards (both with and without the Officeworks logo printed on the front of it), and all of them worked at Officeworks.

am I able to swap these at Coles for the Officeworks Celebration version (even though they are activated)

      No.

or swap them for Officeworks eGift cards through https://exchangecelebration.com.au/ ?

Last time I checked, Officeworks did not appear on the Celebration gift card exchange portal.

  • +1

Thank you very much WookieMonster for the comprehensive and prompt response! Glad to know I can use them as is at Officeworks.
