    • Yep it's fine, I recently did the similar China Southern deal to Europe via Guangzhou and it was painless both directions, took about 15min max to get through the transfer desk / security since there was basically no line. Because it's international-international, we did not have to exit into China.

    • nope that's plenty for a sterile transit, wouldn't sweat it one bit. I've done a 55 min connection at SIN, still had enough time to spend 20 minutes in the lounge.

    • Yes

    • CZ give out "short layover" or something cards when you check in for the first leg, I saw some people get these when flying with them recently. I presume the staff will help rush you through to your next flight? As mentioned by others, the staff and service are very professional and efficient.

    • I just took China Southern Airline back from Rome and transfer back to Sydney via Guangzhou. 1.5 hour would be barely enough for international transfer.

      • Cutting it mighty fine doing that. Your ducks better line up or you be a goner. Getting fleeced buying another ticket.

      flights.google.com

give it a go yourself it's really not that hard. OP can't magically give you a secret hidden fare, just use any good flight aggregator and play around with dates.

China Southern is a good airline. I say better than Qantas and Jetstar. Much more competitive. Just cause China does not mean it's bad. Stop all this stereotyping.

You would be surprised for the price you pay.

They certainly wants more market share

    • Have they considered flying from other ports? Seems like a no brainer to increase market share, by being in more markets?

    • +2

I commented the same "Better than Qantas" on China Southern last post and the QF fans, who may never fly another airlines or out of country started personal attacking me.

      • +2

Ah wells you can't stop people being Alan Joyce fans

This is Australia. Plenty of racists.
They also don't like seeing evidence of Australian research showing that it's very prevalent.

    • Yes it's quite a good airline, cabin crews are nice, polite and helpful, although the food are not that tasty. But overall it's worth the price.

Hey @IWantThatFlight / others, does anybody have experience taking up one of these offers? From what I can see I have to go through a website like Mytrip.com, Flight Network, Gotogate, Jetabroad etc. however a lot of these websites have horror story reviews of cancellations and no communication from the website when it comes to rebooking another flight, flights never booked in the first place etc.

  • took $700 same flight last year, you cannot go wrong, you really cannot go wrong. Aussie dollar all time high for a while. If something goes wrong, it is you.

I can now only accept direct flights after being punched by Jetstar in Cairns before.

    But good deal it is.

  • +2

Now we need some cheap direct return flights to China!

    Why sales never from BNE?

  • Why never sale during school holiday

      I'll give you one guess

      You’ve answered your own question

      • It is? 🤔🤯

@IWantThatFlight Does China Southern provide FREE hotel accommodation in Guangzhou? I have seen similar deals recently that China Southern provides FREE hotel for transfer flights.

  • +1

Beware, mytrip support is almost non existent.

    • What about flightnetwork or gototgate?

    • Live chat them. They are fine

      • So just not mytrip?

  • Can I get this price to guangzhou only ?

    • Buy one way, no check luggage and jump off at Guangzhou

  • +1

    This is an amazing price

  • Competition is welcomed but it will be insane if I take them…

    • Why is that?

  • I think we need more direct flights to Japan and better prices, it’s mind boggling that we are just 10h away (close in AUS terms) yet pay a premium to go there.

I met my friend in Japan, and he flew from Europe. He paid less, the vast options of airlines flying to Tokyo of course affects this but I don’t understand why ANA doesn’t serve Melb and Bris?

    • I'd hazard a guess and say passenger volumes. Why put on more flights that you will have to sell at a lower unit cost when you are already selling seats at a premium?

    • Really? There's already 5 airlines flying from Australia direct to Japan from East Coast cities & Perth - and probably another 5-6 via one stopover. You've got multiple options each and every day.

The flights don't really seem that expensive either in comparison to other flights leaving Australia (we always pay more being at the other end of the world)

Whilst there is some correlation between distance and price - airlines don't really work on a pay-per-hour in the air model.

      • Melb is underserved. I flew Qantas just to fly direct even though Cathay and Singapore were cheaper. I paid premium economy/business class fares of SG to Qantas not to fly extra 8hours.

When you say 5 airlines we are talking about JAL/ANA/Jetstar/Qantas and Virgin. I'll tell you my beef with them as a fellow bargainer:

Qantas: Overly expensive, premium/inflated prices for sub-par service overall compared to Asian airlines (especially JAL, Ana and SG/Cathay)
Virgin: Flies joke of an aircraft from only QLD afaik
        Jetstar: Hard pass
JAL: The only viable option but also oneworld and has insane prices exactly like Qantas, I don't know if OneWorld thing has any effect
ANA: Syd/Perth only. I don't know how Perth passenger volumes are in comparison to Melb, but I would argue if Ana started Melb, it would have no difficulty filling up their seats.

So for my next flight, I looked at flights via Syd and voila, much better deals (if you try to buy same flights from Melbourne with Sydney as a leg, the price balloons), so I will fly to Syd myself :)

  • Anyone know the transit visa cost for the China layover?

    • +1

      no visa required for transit.

  • +1

    Screw it…pulled the trigger! haha…

  • Very tempting!

  • Is a layover of >1 day possible? Thinking of stopping at Guangzhou for 2 days then fly to Japan.

    • Should be fine as long as you meet the requirements (e.g. ticket continuing your travel outside of China within the time limits, eligible passport etc.) - have a look at the 144 hour visa free transit scheme (https://www.csair.com/en/tourguide/transit_flow/flightsTwo_h…). YMMV but for me it took quite a while (1-2 hours) to get through immigration at Shenzhen, and my friend said the same thing happened to him at Guangzhou - basically the zone where you apply for this scheme is clearly marked, but there was only one employee trying to help dozens of people through the process and she also had to physically walk to and from another office to get documents processed multiple times (so half the time she wasn't at the desk and it wasn't entirely clear what I was meant to be doing).

      • because they try to put everything under management and collect all your information. so it wont be fast. And if you go to some transit city they might be very tough on determine if you can get the transit visa. Many cases traveller were force to stay in airport using the 24 hour transit facility.
