this one doesn't have heatsink only silicon layer.

  • There are heavier-duty heatsink pads that are more thermally conductive, but even with this 3mm pad, I doubt it is even touching the outer case (you can see how irregular it is in the videos). If you open the case again it should have adhered somewhat to the inside if it is making good thermal contact. Unless it swells up, you won't be making contact with the case. The pad will only at best offer some heat-spreading, like the better non-heatsink brands.

    • I have this model and the 3mm pad does touch the outer case, to the extent that if you take out the inner case, I've had the whole SSD disconnect! Which is a design issue in its own right.

  • 10000 Megabytes Per Second

Assume that's a spec typo then

  • Anyone getting close to 1 Gbps (or higher) with this?

    • This will entirely depend on your device, a thunderbolt/newest gen usbc will see close to that but anything older youll probably see more around half that

      • I get around 0.3 Gbps over Thunderbolt 4 and Samsung NVME 970 Evo Plus (internal and external)
Tried a few external 10Gbps enclosures and get about the same.

        What speeds are you getting?

        • +1

Yea na thats weird are you getting that speed with the drive internal as in in your motherboard, and using externals? If so that would mean the drive is faulty.
If you're getting that speed with multiple enclosures and different drives then your device might have some sort of power management or something going on thats not letting you use its full power.

Make sure its a direct connection to your port so not off a splitter/hub as that would share its "bandwidth"

          • @notballin: Thanks for feedback.

Yep, using a direct connection via Thunderbolt 4 port and cable to the external enclosure (tried cable that comes with UGREEN and also a Thunderbolt 4 cable). I'm copying from the internal NVME on the laptop motherboard (C-Drive) to the external UGREEN 10Gbps with NVME (also tried with 2 other 10Gbps enclosures - similar result)

Copying C-Drive to C-Drive seems about right for throughput.
But slow when reading or writing to the External 0.3Gbps, initial peak around 0.5Gbps.

… does this sound like the power management issue you mentioned?

            • +1

@Joda: There could honestly be a million things its so hard to tell and I'm not exactly an expert just had similar issues before. I would do something like this

Download this tool first - https://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtreeview_e.html and verify that you in fact are plugging into the correct spot or that your device is truly thunderbolt4 if it is not then there may be some issue with the laptop - (I would look for the port that says SuperSpeed in the tool or something along that line)

I know it'll be a confusing app, but they have some examples under the download.

If that looks good then yea you may have to enter your computer bios and disable anything that claims to do some sort of USB Emulation/Power management/legacy system and so on and remember your old settings before doing so just incase the performance somehow gets worse.

Once that's all done run a tool like "CrystalDiskMark" first with a regular usb3.1 thumbdrive if you have any then with the enclosure if its still slower yea then you may need to look into the good ol process of elimination of each hardware.

Also before doing all that make sure your drive is formatted as NTFS.

              • @ballingoutacontrol: Thanks - very helpful.

I'll start with the thumbdrive as you mention (will need to get a USB-C one so no issues from cable speeds) and then go through the process of elimination.

Why so many likes? Isn't~$30 normal price for a vanilla 10gbps nvme enclosure? I just ordered one from Aliexpress for under $20

    • Which one did you get?

  • 10000 megabits per second not megabytes per second

  • I bought a video capture device from this brand and spent hours to try without success. No trust on this brand. It looked great though….

    • I have used many ugreen accessories without issue, however their cheap video capture device is not great in my opinion, as it only supports 1080/30, while every other device in its price range supports 1080/60. It is clear on the product page, but its a disappointing limitation nevertheless.
