This is the Active version, different from the Mi Band 8 which has the 60hz screen

great info, i was thinking this is the good one, and not the dumb one. which would be a great deal. i definitely would pay a little more to get the mi.

decided to get this for my eldest for christmas. Not bad, you can connect it to your phone, set it up, pick your clock face, disable everything and then sync and delete it from the app, use it as a smart dumb digital watch. Perfect for a 7 year old. The band is a little big but he loves it and seems miles better than all that crap they market to kids which breaks after a month.

Think we paid $50 for it so not bad at this price.

    • Great idea. Does it scratch easily , how durable is it for Kids ?

      • You can get screen protectors for them

        • The screen is good quality. It depends on the kid really.

          • @YasimKudomi Pape: Accident happen no matter how good you are

            • @asa79: That's accident, totally understand. However, some kids or people are never learned. Don't you thing? People in this generation are less grateful for what they have in general!

he's had it since Christmas and it already has a few little scratches on it, mind you he wore it in the pool every day since and that probably hasn't helped (climbing in and out) I figure it's a reasonable price and a good bit of tech to teach him about looking after his stuff and not scratching a screen. If in 12-24 months it's all bashed up then I think that's a cheap lesson for $50 and I'd rather it be this watch then a phone worth a few hundred in a couple years.

It looks quite durable as long as they look after it, might be a bit annoying as there's no on button, you need to use the charger to power it up.

Any more questions i'm happy to help :)

        • love how you educate the little one… nice one. Thanks

      • The xiaomi watch bands are so band at heart rate detection when working out, i wouldn't recommend it.

    • Thanks for sharing. I know it says you can customise 100+ faces, but do you know if you can set a custom wallpaper? Kid wants a smart watch with long battery life but likes to set his own picture…

    • Hey mate, my grandma wants a pedometer, i figure this might do the trick. When you say disable everything, i know with the mi band if you hold down on the screen it allows you to change the face. If you disable everything your way, does it even stop that from happening?

      • Don't think so, my kids still changing the wallpaper between the 3 that are on there by holding down on the screen.

  • Xiaomi Band 7 Pro is crappy. Hope not with the 8.

This is the active not the pro

This has very basic TFT display, compared to OLED on Smart Band 8 (non-Active).

  • Can the active vibrate when you get a call and show sms messages?

On the topic of kids watches, I can recommend the Garmin vivofit jr 2 or 3 models. Very sturdy , bands do wear out but are easily replaceable.

Comes with in-built token system, where you can assign different tasks or chores , and if completed they collect “coins”. My kid (8) gets to trade those in at the end of the week for game time on his switch, so don’t have any issues with him cleaning his room any more.

Sure a bit more expensive, but battery lasts a year or so and very sturdy

    • Battery is replaceable too.. although my kid says that her steps sometimes doesn’t seem to register correctly

    • The screens on those are really bad. Very dim and hard to read, colors indistinguishable. Would not recommend.

      • This.

I got one for my 7 year old and the screen is atrocious. Fortunately kids aren't as picky.

Worth it for the chores business but Garmin must be making a killing on the vivofits, compared to what you can get in a Xiaomi or Huawei band for much less.
