No free .edu email address with these courses. :(

  • do you need to pass an exam?

    • +2

No exams, just a few multiple choice questions scattered through the content.

Do they have any value ?
    Certs, edumail, anything ?

Looking at the topics covered it's less than basic and takes 3 hours to fully finish. Very surprised anyone would pay 150 bucks for that.

      Rarely.

Just another thing some sales idiot will throw into their LinkedIn profile so they can apply for "architect" or "analyst" roles.

Will they ever build anything useful or do engineering? Almost certainly no.

Building your own environment or lab or own projects will dwarf anything you'll learn in these.

    • I'm doing a deeplearning.ai course about LLMs now. Learning content is free but you do need to pay to access labs and assessments.

  • Looks like no certificate for completing “microskill” series courses

  • OP 👍

    This course is trash

"Which of the following SQL constructs is specifically used for improving query performance by creating a pre-defined query result that can be accessed and manipulated like a table? "
    (Expected answer = View)

This is wrong - views don't improve performance unless they're materialised (which they almost never are).

This course is similar to a mandatory fire training course you do in the first week of a job.

    • Materialisation from an analytical perspective isn't common but using views in an integration into another system is far more common, so the answer isn't wrong.

It's an intro course you can't expect to have all the nuance there, they don't want to scare people off by bombarding them with info.

It's 100% wrong and not just a little bit wrong - but totally, fundamentally, wrong.

It's wrong on so many levels.
        First, views don't improve performance.
Second, views don't create a 'pre-defined query result' - they are executed in-line.

        They want money for this?

        • Do you think if you keep saying ‘wrong’ you'll feel better about your point?

  • Agreed.
Better off learning yourself through the internet than taking these kinds of courses.

Only reason to do these courses is if you need to pad out your resume.
