Cheapest this has been on Amazon by a mile, just be aware that the film for these things is expensive as sin. My daughters camera film costs roughly $1 per shot.

so which instant camera film is the most economical?

    • +1

I would say the mini but it won’t be compatible with this camera. The Squares per sheet are more on the pricier end.

Why not consider something like a pocket printer which is slitly economical and use your phone to print instantly

HP Sprocket Portable 2x3 Instant Photo Printer (Blush) Print Pictures on Zink Sticky-Backed Paper from Your iOS & Android Device. https://amzn.asia/d/7fCr1JD

      • omg thank you - I totally forgot about these.

I got one of those Bluetooth - mobile phone label printers for $25ish and I love it. I label everything so if its anything as easy to use as that - these mobile photo printers would be so cool & the photos are def high def since mobile cameras are crazy good these days

follow up question: which is the most economical photo printer paper? I am just looking at prices and its $30-$50 per 50 pages. Not that much cheaper than instant camera film

why is film for these things so expensive? i'd expect to find some knock off brand of film on aliexpress for a fraction of the cost but have had no luck.

    • looks like knock offs exist for the instant photo printer paper though

      • are there? the only ones i found would shave a few dollars off the price of a pack of 40, not much of a price difference? can you share the knock off's your finding? may sway my decision on these things

There's science to film. Most instant film have small dye packs in them that activate when a shot happens and exposed. These dyes are different chemicals, normally patented/licensed by the camera manufacture as they have R&D behind the chemicals to achieve best color science.

That said, on average $1/film is justifiable, in the sense not many people hold physical media as much. Keep essentials/memorable on physicals, everything else stored in the cloud. Given it's a slowly dying market.

Alternatively, Zink technology -zero-ink is cost effective. Uses normally a special thermal paper that activates different colors in the paper layers.

The modernised polaroid (i-type) is even more expensivbe per shot at roughly $4 each with the added fun of all the polaroid pain points such as lines, poor exposure, blur. Nothing like taking a $4 shot and it frequently turning out like shit.

Instax square film is smaller but cheaper per shot. The images are also more consistent but still possible to take bad shots.

I just sold my Instax Sq1 and bought a mini evo. Basically a printer with a camera built in.

    • yep looks like "1" at each officeworks if you get in quick.

can't justify this - who else has this or is this really for photographers or to get teens busy?

They are great at parties… we use ours at parties and then put the prints on the fridge, car, wallet and around the house.

Better to relive the memories instead of scrolling on phone when you remember to do so.

Brings a smile to my face seeing the kids grow up.

On the fridge is the best. Cannot beat a physical copy of memories!

        • +2

We give the cameras to our little kids and they take some interesting photos at events. A lot of them bad, some of them priceless though

@prankster: Nopes… enjoy the prints. They are seriously worthwhile. The smiles and memories it brings back is worth far more than the cost.

  • Would this be good for taking photos of insects?

You'd be much better off using your phone camera for that purpose

The squares are fun, and pretty decent quality.

We have a Zink printer as well, but sink’s print quality is much poorer.

    • Need a ton of light

  • whats the best dal/place to get film for this camera now?

  • Does the pack include film?
