Best Value and Effective Room Freshener

Hi, looking for suggestions on room fresheners that will linger around a 4BR house for whole day.

Tried loads but it stays for 2-3 hours but then dies down. I have seen some houses and temples that smell good for whole day and also quite refreshing smell. Airwick-candles - everything tried.

Any suggestions?

The best room freshener that remains the whole day is a product that contains oxymoron. Perhaps look for that on the label….

    • lol. something containing .. a "figure of speech"

Why does the room not smell fresh?

You need to treat the problem rather than masking it.

You can pour oil into a fire or kill it by elimination.

I had to de-stink some rental properties and if perfume does no longer cover it you have to get brutal and oxidise whatever bothers your nose.

With care you can use radical oxygen, just buy an ozone generator from whatever bay and with luck you get old stock for 40 for what Gerry would sell for 400.

Now comes the care bit: O3 has no place in lungs of any animal incl humans. Remote switch it then use remote switches to pumping it out of the window using metal blade fans. Yes strong use can also disolve soft plastics so either cover plastics when the issue is bad or know the consequences. So enter the house ONLY after good airing out. It worked fine for most really bad smells, it does not work for building rot or fire smells.

all the VOCs released by air freshners, incense sticks, etc are not good for your lungs

  • Soy melt candle and burner

  • Get flavoured oil of your choice (lavender, eucalypt, etc). Add water and a drop or two to a bottle. Add a few drops of alcohol (denatured spirit is cheap) and the oil will dissolve into the water. Stick in a few reeds. Total cost per refill is just a few cents and will last many days.

  • Run the AC to draw the smelly moisture out of the room.

The irony is these products don't 'freshen' the air. They mask odours and add more chemicals into the air.

If you want to make a room truly smell fresh: find the source of the odour, reduce moisture, ventilate, and consider using activated carbon.

I’ve got one of these. Problem is that it ain’t cheap. Key is that it diffuses directly from the essential oil. No water. No candles. Fill up the bottle and it’ll last weeks if you run it periodically. I have mine set to run 2hrs on 2hrs off during the day and basically makes the majority of the house smell good.

Again, issue is the price which won’t be for everyone

  • Just to clarify there is nothing Smelly or moisture smells

It is just need the house to smell good

    • Redefine your definition of ‘smelling good’ to not include special smelly stuff. Chances are, you’re just getting used to the perfumes and anyone else who walks in is gonna keel over from the overpowering smells.
